In this paper, we address a fundamental problem related to the induction of Boolean logic: Given a set of data, represented as a set of binary “truen-vectors” (or “positive examples”) and a set of “falsen-vectors” (or “negative examples”), we establish a Boolean function (or an extension)f, so thatfis true (resp., false) in every given true (resp., false) vector. We shall further require that such an extension belongs to a certain specified class of functions, e.g., class of positive functions, class of Horn functions, and so on. The class of functions represents our a priori knowledge or hypothesis about the extensionf, which may be obtained from experience or from the analysis of mechanisms that may or may not cause the phenomena under consideration. The real-world data may contain errors, e.g., measurement and classification errors might come in when obtaining data, or there may be some other influential factors not represented as variables in the vectors. In such situations, we have to give up the goal of establishing an extension that is perfectly consistent with the given data, and we are satisfied with an extensionfhaving the minimum number of misclassifications. Both problems, i.e., the problem of finding an extension within a specified class of Boolean functions and the problem of finding a minimum error extension in that class, will be extensively studied in this paper. For certain classes we shall provide polynomial algorithms, and for other cases we prove their NP-hardness.  相似文献

Alcalase® (Subtilisin A) was immobilized by simple hydrophobic adsorption onto various surface‐grafted macroporous silica gels resulting in easy‐to‐prepare and stable biocatalysts enabling the efficient kinetic resolution (KR) and dynamic kinetic resolution (DKR) of racemic N‐Boc‐phenylalanine ethyl thioester with benzylamine. The immobilized Alcalase biocatalysts, which retained their activity and selectivity when stored at 4 °C for more than a year, were tested in enzymatic aminolysis in batch and continuous‐flow KRs resulting in (S)‐N‐Boc‐phenylalanine benzylamide in high enantiomeric purity. In KR of the racemic thioester by Alcalase‐catalyzed aminolysis in a continuous‐flow reactor, the productivity (specific reaction rate, rflow) and enantiomeric ratio (E) were studied in the 0–100 °C range. The effect of the temperature on base‐catalyzed racemization of the non‐transformed (R)‐thioester in a continuous‐flow reactor was also investigated in the 0–150 °C range. The continuous‐mode DKR of the racemic thioester in a serial cascade system of six biocatalyst‐filled columns at 50 °C for KR and five grafted silica gel‐filled columns at 150 °C for racemization resulted in the formation of the (S)‐benzylamide in 79% conversion, 8.17 g L −1 h−1 volumetric productivity and 98% ee. This is the first example of a dynamic kinetic resolution of an amino acid derivative in continuous‐flow mode using an alternating cascade of packed‐bed enzyme reactors and racemization reactors kept at different temperatures.

Monitoring of reinforced concrete bridges retrofitted by external tendons An established retrofitting method for bridges with deficits in their load bearing capacity is the installation of external tendons to increase the lifespan of the structure. A critical detail of the retrofitting is the anchorage block, where significant forces have to be introduced into the existing superstructure. Therefore, the anchorage blocks of three bridges in Hessen were monitored. They were fitted with extensometers, strain gauges were installed on prestressing rods and the temperature was recorded. Furthermore alert protocols were established, to detect potentially critical situations. The effects of different construction stages were tracked. The influence of short‐ and long‐term temperature changes on the readings was assessed. In summary, the monitoring provided valuable insights into the structural interaction between the existing superstructure and the elements of the retrofitting.  相似文献

On April 10-11, 2003, an INES-3 classified serious incident caused heavy damage of 30 fuel assemblies in a chemical cleaning instrument installed into a service shaft of Unit 2 in the Paks NPP, Hungary.The preliminaries, the operation of the cleaning tank and the course of the incident are summarized in this paper. Also the post incidental investigations, the preparation for and the process of the recovery work are reviewed. This is the first comprehensive summary of this rather interesting and edificatory event in an international journal paper.The other part of the paper is a summary of the connecting thermal-hydraulic calculations performed at The Institute of Nuclear Techniques, Budapest University of Technology and Economics. An important aim of these sections is demonstrating that CFD was a useful tool for understanding the processes and backing certain decisions from the beginning till the recovery work.  相似文献

UV-induced DNA damage response and repair are extensively studied processes, as any malfunction in these pathways contributes to the activation of tumorigenesis. Although several proteins involved in these cellular mechanisms have been described, the entire repair cascade has remained unexplored. To identify new players in UV-induced repair, we performed a microarray screen, in which we found SerpinB10 (SPB10, Bomapin) as one of the most dramatically upregulated genes following UV irradiation. Here, we demonstrated that an increased mRNA level of SPB10 is a general cellular response following UV irradiation regardless of the cell type. We showed that although SPB10 is implicated in the UV-induced cellular response, it has no indispensable function in cell survival upon UV irradiation. Nonetheless, we revealed that SPB10 might be involved in delaying the duration of DNA repair in interphase and also in S-phase cells. Additionally, we also highlighted the interaction between SPB10 and H3. Based on our results, it seems that SPB10 protein is implicated in UV-induced stress as a “quality control protein”, presumably by slowing down the repair process.  相似文献

The problem of Horn Minimization (HM) can be stated as follows: given a Horn CNF representing a Boolean function f, find a shortest possible (optimally compressed) CNF representation of f, i.e., a CNF representation of f which consists of the minimum possible number of clauses. This problem is the formalization of the problem of knowledge compression for speeding up queries to propositional Horn expert systems, and it is known to be NP-hard. There are two subclasses of Horn functions for which HM is known to be solvable in polynomial time: acyclic and quasi-acyclic Horn functions. In this paper we define a new class of Horn functions properly containing both of the known classes and design a polynomial time HM algorithm for this new class.  相似文献

Given a directed graph G=(V,A) with a non-negative weight (length) function on its arcs w:A→ℝ+ and two terminals s,tV, our goal is to destroy all short directed paths from s to t in G by eliminating some arcs of A. This is known as the short paths interdiction problem. We consider several versions of it, and in each case analyze two subcases: total limited interdiction, when a fixed number k of arcs can be removed, and node-wise limited interdiction, when for each node vV a fixed number k(v) of out-going arcs can be removed. Our results indicate that the latter subcase is always easier than the former one. In particular, we show that the short paths node-wise interdiction problem can be efficiently solved by an extension of Dijkstra’s algorithm. In contrast, the short paths total interdiction problem is known to be NP-hard. We strengthen this hardness result by deriving the following inapproximability bounds: Given k, it is NP-hard to approximate within a factor c<2 the maximum st distance d(s,t) obtainable by removing (at most) k arcs from G. Furthermore, given d, it is NP-hard to approximate within a factor the minimum number of arcs which has to be removed to guarantee d(s,t)≥d. Finally, we also show that the same inapproximability bounds hold for undirected graphs and/or node elimination. Preservation of the chemical architecture of a cell or of an organism under changing and perhaps stressful conditions is termed homeostasis. An integral feature of homeostasis is the rapid expression of genes whose products are specifically dedicated to protect cellular functions against stress. One of the best known mechanisms protecting cells from various stresses is the heat-shock response which results in the induction of the synthesis of heat-shock proteins (HSPs or stress proteins). A large body of information supports that stress proteins--many of them molecular chaperones--are crucial for the maintenance of cell integrity during normal growth as well as during pathophysiological conditions, and thus can be considered "homeostatic proteins." Recently emphasis is being placed on the potential use of these proteins in preventing and/or treating diseases. Therefore, it would be of great therapeutic benefit to discover compounds that are clinically safe yet able to induce the accumulation of HSPs in patients with chronic disorders such as diabetes mellitus, heart disease or kidney failure. Here we show that a novel cytoprotective hydroxylamine derivative, [2-hydroxy-3-(1-piperidinyl) propoxy]-3-pyridinecarboximidoil-chloride maleate, Bimoclomol, facilitates the formation of chaperone molecules in eukaryotic cells by inducing or amplifying expression of heat-shock genes. The cytoprotective effects observed under several experimental conditions, including a murine model of ischemia and wound healing in the diabetic rat, are likely mediated by the coordinate expression of all major HSPs. This nontoxic drug, which is under Phase II clinical trials, has enormous potential therapeutic applications.  相似文献

Given a Horn CNF representing a Boolean function f, the problem of Horn minimization consists in constructing a CNF representation off which has a minimum possible number of clauses. This problem is the formalization of the problem of knowledge compression for speeding up queries to propositional Horn expert systems, and it is known to be NP-hard. In this paper we present a linear time algorithm which takes a Horn CNF as an input, and through a series of decompositions reduces the minimization of the input CNF to the minimization problem on a“shorter” CNF. The correctness of this decomposition algorithm rests on several interesting properties of Horn functions which, as we prove here, turn out to be independent of the particular CNF representations.
