Depression is common among college students and higher levels of depression are associated with greater alcohol-related problems. However, depression is frequently not found to be directly associated with more alcohol use. This study examined whether various aspects of impulsivity (negative urgency, lack of premeditation, lack of perseverance, sensation seeking, and delay discounting) and drinking to cope with negative affect help to account for the relationship between depression and alcohol problems among emerging adult college drinkers who reported at least a minimal level of depressive symptoms. In this cross-sectional study, 143 emerging adult (between 18 and 25 years old) female (69.9%, n = 100) and male (30.1%, n = 43) college drinkers with at least minimal depressive symptoms completed measures of depression, alcohol use and problems, drinking to cope, and impulsivity. A multiple mediation analysis revealed that only negative urgency and drinking to cope partially mediated the depression-alcohol problems relationship. Moderated mediation analyses revealed that impulsivity-related constructs did not significantly interact with drinking to cope to increase alcohol problems. It appears that alcohol use is particularly problematic for students with elevated depression, and this is partly attributable to depression's association with negative urgency, in addition to its association with drinking to cope. Our findings suggest that students who suffer from depression may engage in problematic drinking behavior in part because negative affect is detrimental to their short-term impulse control and decision making, independent of maladaptive attempts to regulate affect through drinking to cope. Two experiments were conducted to evaluate the effects of phosphorus (P) level and calcium (Ca)/total P (tP) ratio on the efficacy of microbial phytase. Experiment 1 examined the effects of P concentration and microbial phytase inclusion on mineral excretion and pig performance, while experiment 2 examined the effects of Ca/tP ratio and microbial phytase inclusion on mineral excretion and pig performance. In experiment 1, nutrient and mineral digestibility (n = 4) and growth performance (n = 12) were determined in pigs individually fed diets containing (T1) 5.5 g kg?1 tP, 2.3 g kg?1 available P (aP) and 8.0 g kg?1 Ca, (T2) 5.5 g kg?1 tP, 2.3 g kg?1 aP, 8.0 g kg?1 Ca and 750 FYT kg?1 Peniophora lycii phytase, (T3) 4.3 g kg?1 tP, 1.4 g kg?1 aP and 8.0 g kg?1 Ca and (T4) 4.3 g kg?1 tP, 1.4 g kg?1 aP, 8.0 g kg?1 Ca and 750 FYT kg?1 P lycii phytase. In experiment 2, nutrient and mineral digestibility (n = 4) and growth performance (n = 12) were determined in pigs individually fed diets containing (TT1) 4.3 g kg?1 tP and 8.0 g kg?1 Ca, (TT2) 4.3 g kg?1 tP, 8.0 g kg?1 Ca and 750 FYT kg?1 P lycii phytase, (TT3) 4.3 g kg?1 tP and 5.0 g kg?1 Ca and (TT4) 4.3 g kg?1 tP, 5.0 g kg?1 Ca and 750 FYT kg?1 P lycii phytase. All diets were formulated, using standard feeding values for the ingredients, to have similar concentrations of digestible energy (DE) and lysine. In experiment 1, pigs offered the low‐P diets had significantly lower P intake (P < 0.001), faecal P excretion (P < 0.05), Ca intake (P < 0.05) and faecal Ca excretion (P < 0.05) compared with pigs given the adequate‐P diets. These pigs also had significantly lower daily gain (P < 0.01), feed intake (P < 0.05) and feed conversion ratio (FCR) (P < 0.05). The inclusion of phytase in both the adequate‐ and low‐P diets increased the digestibility of energy (P < 0.05) and Ca (P < 0.01) but had no effect on pig performance. In experiment 2, lowering the Ca/tP ratio from 1.85:1 to 1.15:1 increased the DE content of the diet (P < 0.05). The inclusion of phytase increased (P < 0.05) the digestibility of protein (0.874 versus 0.840, SEM 0.009) and Ca (0.427 versus 0.380, SEM 0.019) as well as the DE content of the diet (14.47 versus 14.26 MJ kg?1, SEM 0.073). There was a significant ratio × phytase interaction (P < 0.5) for P digestibility. Microbial phytase significantly increased P digestibility when added to the 1.15:1 ratio diet but had no effect when added to the 1.85:1 ratio diet. The inclusion of microbial phytase increased feed intake (2.16 versus 2.00 kg day?1, SEM 0.05; P < 0.05) and weight gain (0.893 versus 0.818 kg day?1, SEM 0.022; P < 0.05). Lowering the Ca/tP ratio resulted in a significant improvement in FCR (2.32 versus 2.40 kg kg?1, SEM 0.03; P < 0.05). A family of alumina-forming austenitic (AFA) stainless steels is under development for use in aggressive oxidizing conditions from ~600?C900 °C. These alloys exhibit promising mechanical properties but oxidation resistance in air with water vapor environments is currently limited to ~800 °C due to a transition from external protective alumina scale formation to internal oxidation of aluminum with increasing temperature. The oxidation behavior of a series of AFA alloys was systematically studied as a function of Cr, Si, Al, C, and B additions in an effort to provide a basis to increase the upper-temperature oxidation limit. Oxidation exposures were conducted in air with 10% water vapor environments from 800?C1000 °C, with post oxidation characterization of the 900 °C exposed samples by electron probe microanalysis (EPMA), scanning and transmission electron microscopy, and photo-stimulated luminescence spectroscopy (PSLS). Increased levels of Al, C, and B additions were found to increase the upper-temperature oxidation limit in air with water vapor to between 950 and 1000 °C. These findings are discussed in terms of alloy microstructure and possible gettering of hydrogen from water vapor at second phase carbide and boride precipitates.  相似文献

It is shown that tension applied to fabric which is then permanently set by steaming under pressure for a short time has a significant effect on fabric dimensional properties. Increasing levels of stretch applied to fabric before pressure steaming resulted in decreases in fabric hygral expansion and relaxation shrinkage and also lowered fabric shrinkage that resulted from permanent setting. The setting conditions resembled those used in conventional pressure decatising, and it is suggested that in batch decatising, precise control of the length and width of fabric as it is batched up with the wrapper before steaming under pressure could enable predictable changes in fabric dimensions, relaxation shrinkage and hygral expansion to be obtained.  相似文献

The [(η5-C5H4(CH2)3N3)Mo(CO)3]2 dimer (3) was prepared and used to determine if the Huisgen cycloaddition reaction could be used to synthesize high molecular weight star polymers with metal–metal bonds in the arms. Several different click catalysts were examined. Cp*Ru(PPh3)2Cl (Cp* = η5-C5(CH3)5) was previously shown to catalyze the formation of metal–metal bond-containing polymers using click chemistry; however, this catalyst underwent a Staudinger reaction with dimer 3 when a model coupling reaction was attempted with phenylacetylene. In order to avoid the Staudinger reaction, Cp*Ru(COD)Cl was used as the catalyst in the reaction of 3 with phenylacetylene, and coupling was observed after 14 h. Synthesis of a star polymer was attempted with 3 and 1,3,5-triethynylbenzene. Instead of coupling, Cp*Ru(COD)Cl reacted with the 1,3,5-triethynylbenzene. A third catalyst, Cu(IMes)Cl (IMes = 1,3-dimesityl-imidazol-2-ylidene) was used to couple 3 with 1,3,5-triethynylbenzene in 48 h. Both a high molecular weight polymer (M n  = 77,000 g mol?1) and a tripodal star core (M n  = 1,800 g mol?1) were successfully prepared with this catalyst.  相似文献

There has been an explosion of recent interest concerning information theory in optoelectronic (OE) systems. This interest has been motivated in part by (1) the accelerating deployment of OE components into digital systems, (2) the blurring of the analog-digital interface within many OE applications, and (3) the increasing sophistication and complexity of computational tools. These trends are being driven by revolutionary improvements in both OE devices and electronic processors together with increasing demand for high-speed and high-capacity solutions. This feature addresses the application of information- and communication-theoretic concepts, algorithms, and techniques to important problems in OE system analysis and design.  相似文献

Students and instructors from 24 classrooms across 8 departments at a major university were observed in this study to (a) assess for sex differences in faculty–student interactions and in students' perceptions of their college classroom environment, (b) compare student perceptions of their college classroom interaction patterns with observed faculty–student interactions, and (c) assess a variety of demographic characteristics together to determine their singular and/or interactive effects on faculty–student interaction patterns and student perceptions. Male and female students did not differ in their classroom participation or perceptions, and instructors did not interact differently with the male and female students. Student perceptions strongly correlated with their own behaviors and with instructor behaviors. Classroom interactions and student perceptions varied on the basis of different demographic characteristics including instructor sex, class size, instructor monitoring of gender–race equity in the classroom, gender relevance of the course, and the sex ratio of the class. The ready access to blood (plasma and formed cellular elements) makes it unusually susceptible to the deleterious effects of pollutants whose origins may be in the air. The red blood cells' hemoglobin may be rendered useless for oxygen transport by combination with carbon monoxide or conversion to methemoglobin or sulfhemoglobin. Lead and arsine can damage the erythrocytes' membranes, resulting in anemia. Metabolites of benzene and other volatile polycyclic hydrocarbons are implicated in the causation of leukemias. The extensive use of pesticides and herbicides may be associated with the development of Hodgkin's disease, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, and aplastic anemia. The carcinogenic risks from ionizing radiation, especially for leukemia, are well known. More information is needed concerning the epidemiology of environmental factors responsible for damage to blood. Enhanced knowledge about the molecular biology of toxins' effects on the hematopoietic system and improved detection and prevention technologies are needed to answer environmentally related health questions.  相似文献

The solid solution (1 − x)[Bi1/2(Na1/2K1/2)1/2TiO3]-xPbZrO3, (0.00 ≤ x ≤ 0.12) was investigated to examine the phase equilibria, dielectric and electromechanical properties. The composition corresponding to x = 0.00 exhibits tetragonal symmetry with the expected classical ferroelectric (FE) behavior. The system exhibited FE to relaxor crossover with the addition of lead zirconate at the composition x = 0.05. This is indicated by typical relaxor characteristics such as a transition to the global pseudocubic phase, a constriction in the FE hysteresis loop, and a sudden decrease in the negative strain accompanied by an increase in maximum strain. Most notably, with a further increase in x (>0.05), there is evidence for a return to a FE phase that exhibits classical FE characteristics. The combined results demonstrate that there exists a narrow FE-relaxor boundary near x = 0.05, where FE and relaxor phases coexist. At the critical composition, enhancement in the piezoelectric properties, including an increase in the effective (350 pm/V) was observed. This transition in the electromechanical properties is consistent with changes observed in the phase equilibria for this solid solution. The crystal structure transitions from tetragonal symmetry for x = 0.00, to pseudocubic symmetry for the relaxor compositions (x = 0.05), and finally to a lower symmetry perovskite phase for the re-entrant FE phase (x> 0.05). This composition-induced transition from FE to relaxor to a re-entrant FE state in the (1 − x)[Bi1/2(Na1/2K1/2)1/2TiO3]-xPbZrO3 system is unusual among relaxor FE systems and thus is of great scientific and technological interest.  相似文献
