The Val-Alain Bridge, located in the Municipality of Val-Alain on Highway 20 East, crosses over Henri River in Québec, Canada. The bridge is a slab-on-girder type with a skew angle of 20° over a single span of 49.89?m and a total width of 12.57?m. The bridge has four simply supported steel girders spaced at 3,145?mm. The deck slab is a 225-mm-thick concrete slab, with semi-integral abutments, continuous over the steel girders with an overhang of 1,570?mm on each side. The concrete deck slab and the bridge barriers were reinforced with glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) reinforcing bars utilizing high-performance concrete. The Val-Alain Bridge is the Canada’s first concrete bridge deck totally reinforced with GFRP reinforcing bars. Using such nonmetallic reinforcement in combination with high-performance concrete leads to an expected service life of more than 75?years. The bridge is well instrumented with electrical resistance strain gauges and fiber-optic sensors at critical locations to record internal strain data. Also, the bridge was tested for service performance using calibrated truckloads. Design concepts, construction details, and results of the first series of live load field tests are presented.  相似文献

The role of colloids in regulating element transport, behavior, and bioavailability in aquatic systems is now well-established. It appears that further progress in this research field is being slowed by (i) a limited integration between the geochemical and the biological aspects of the research on colloids and (ii) a persistent gap between well-controlled laboratory studies and real field situations. This paper presents a simultaneous evaluation of the role of colloids in controlling element environmental fate and bioavailability at the confluence between a major river and a polluted tributary. Fractionation of trace elements among suspended particulate matter, colloids, and true solution suggests that colloids may play a role in the removal of trace elements from the water column to bed sediments during the mixing of the two rivers. Toxicity testing of water samples indicates that, in this specific system, contaminants associated with colloids can contribute to water toxicity for the rotifer Brachionus calyciflorus but not for the green alga Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata. To the best of our knowledge, the results for B. calyciflorus are the first ones pointing to the possible contribution of colloid-bound contaminants to water toxicity in environmental samples. Despite the uncertainties associated with field variability, the results of chemical analysis and toxicitytesting show several points of convergence. Following these observations, a few innovative research approaches are suggested to improve the understanding of trace element biogeochemistry in real field situations.  相似文献

We have developed a new formulation of the coupled-wave method (CWM) to handle aperiodic lamellar structures, and it will be referred to as the aperiodic coupled-wave method (ACWM). The space is still divided into three regions, but the fields are written by use of their Fourier integrals instead of the Fourier series. In the modulated region the relative permittivity is represented by its Fourier transform, and then a set of integro-differential equations is derived. Discretizing the last system leads to a set of ordinary differential equations that is reduced to an eigenvalue problem, as is usually done in the CWM. To assess the method, we compare our results with three independent formalisms: the Rayleigh perturbation method for small samples, the volume integral method, and the finite-element method.  相似文献

The diffraction of light that emerges from a metallic circular aperture is studied. Near- and far-field results are presented. Spectral angular transmitted intensities are performed versus the incident wavelength for four kinds of aperture. It is shown that, for a definite configuration, a large enhancement of transmission--compared with the basic case of a single hole--occurs combined with a spectacular angular confinement of light. Such effects are, for example, of great interest in optical near-field microscopy for which the probe is a nanosource.  相似文献

The combination of Web services and ontologies is gaining momentum as the potential silver bullets for tomorrows Web, i.e., the Semantic Web. We propose an architectural foundation for managing semantic Web services in dynamic environments. We introduce the concept of community to cater for an ontological organization of Web services. We develop an ontology called community ontology that serves as a template for describing communities of Web services. Photothermal heterodyne detection is used to record the first room-temperature absorption spectra of single CdSe/ZnS semiconductor nanocrystals. These spectra are recorded in the high cw excitation regime, and the observed bands are assigned to transitions involving biexciton and trion states. Comparison with the single nanocrystals photoluminescence spectra leads to the measurement of spectral Stokes shifts free from ensemble averaging.  相似文献

In addition to their high strength and light weight, fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composite reinforcing bars offer corrosion resistance, making them a promising alternative to traditional steel reinforcing bars in concrete bridge decks. FRP reinforcement has been used in several bridge decks recently constructed in North America. The Morristown Bridge, which is located in Vermont, United States, is a single span steel girder bridge with integral abutments spanning 43.90 m. The deck is a 230 mm thick concrete continuous slab over girders spaced at 2.36 m. The entire concrete deck slab was reinforced with glass FRP (GFRP) bars in two identical layers at the top and the bottom. The bridge is well instrumented at critical locations for internal temperature and strain data collection with fiber-optic sensors. The bridge was tested for service performance using standard truck loads. The construction procedure and field test results under actual service conditions revealed that GFRP rebar provides very good and promising performance.  相似文献

Covering arrays can be applied to the testing of software, hardware and advanced materials, and to the effects of hormone interaction on gene expression. In this paper we develop constraint programming models of the problem of finding an optimal covering array. Our models exploit global constraints, multiple viewpoints and symmetry-breaking constraints. We show that compound variables, representing tuples of variables in our original model, allow the constraints of this problem to be represented more easily and hence propagate better. With our best integrated model, we are able to either prove the optimality of existing bounds or find new optimal solutions, for arrays of moderate size. Local search on a SAT-encoding of the model is able to find improved solutions and bounds for larger problems.  相似文献

A matrix stripping method for the conversion of in-situ gamma ray spectrum, obtained with portable Ge detector, to photon flux energy distribution is proposed. The detector response is fully described by its stripping matrix and full absorption efficiency curve. A charge collection efficiency function is introduced in the simulation to take into account the existence of a transition zone of increasing charge collection after the inactive Ge layer. Good agreement is obtained between simulated and experimental full absorption efficiencies. The characteristic stripping matrix is determined by Monte Carlo simulation for different incident photon energies using the Geant4 toolkit system. The photon flux energy distribution is deduced by stripping the measured spectrum of the partial absorption and cosmic ray events and then applying the full absorption efficiency curve. The stripping method is applied to a measured in-situ spectrum. The value of the absorbed dose rate in air deduced from the corresponding flux energy distribution agrees well with the value measured directly in-situ.  相似文献
