ABSTRACT

The extraction capability of derivatives of imidazole towards Co(II) and Ni(II) has been investigated in dilute acid medium in the presence of each of chloride, perchlorate and thiocyanate ions. The influence of the stereochemistry of the substituted imidazole on the extraction behaviour has been investigated. Two-phase potentiometric titrations were employed to determine the nature of the metal species extracted into the organic phases. The electronic spectra of the extracted metal species have been employed to provide information of the nature of such species.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

A number of derivatives of imidazole have been synthesized. Their extraction behaviour towards Cu2+ in dilute acid medium have been investigated in both chloride and perchlorate media. The influence of electronic and stereochemical effects are discussed. Two-phase potentiometric titrations were employed to determine the two-phase protonation constants and Cu(II) complex species present in the organic phases. The N-decylimidazole derivative has a higher extraction efficiency than the other C-ring substituted imidazoles in spite of their greater protonation constants.  相似文献

The shelf life of a food product is largely determined by its chemical and microbiological stability. In this respect, the gas composition surrounding a packaged product plays a major role. Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) is a packaging technique that usually reduces the headspace oxygen to a preferable minimum for most food products. Besides the residual oxygen, the O2-permeability of the packaging material is also important, as it determines the amount of oxygen permeating into the package during storage. This paper describes the development of a practical software simulation tool to predict the amount of oxygen permeating into the headspace during storage for a variety of multilayer packaging configurations. The simulation tool gives access to simulation models for mono- and multilayer films, trays covered with top foils and bottles with caps. The user can compose his/her own (multilayer) packaging material and check the oxygen ingress over time for different temperature conditions for all packaging configurations.Industrial relevanceThe software simulation tool is of industrial relevance to food companies, as they can use it to select or compare different films, but also to underpin their choice for a certain packaging material with regard to the sensitivity of the food product to oxygen and the desirable shelf life. The simulation program also provides food companies with information about the influence of storage conditions, like time and temperature, on the ingress of oxygen in their food package throughout the storage-distribution chain. On the other hand, it can also be used by packaging suppliers to predict the oxygen permeability in the optimization process of new films and as a client support tool.  相似文献

Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have been successful in the identification of the several urinary bladder cancer (UBC) susceptibility loci, pointing towards novel genes involved in tumor development. Despite that, functional characterization of the identified variants remains challenging, as they mostly map to poorly understood, non-coding regions. Recently, two of the UBC risk variants (PSCA and UGT1A) were confirmed to have functional consequences. They were shown to modify bladder cancer risk by influencing gene expression in an allele-specific manner. Although the role of the other UBC risk variants is unknown, it can be hypothesized—based on studies from different cancer types—that they influence cancer susceptibility by alterations in regulatory networks. The insight into UBC heritability gained through GWAS and further functional studies can impact on cancer prevention and screening, as well as on the development of new biomarkers and future personalized therapies.  相似文献

Blood vessel density is a prognostic indicator of multiple tumor types. Recently, it has been established that tumor-associated blood vessels express elevated levels of integrin alpha(v)beta3. In fact, there is evidence that integrin alpha(v)beta3 identifies the most proliferative endothelial cells within human breast carcinomas. Therefore, we evaluated breast cancer tissue in terms of both blood vessel density and alpha(v)beta3 expression. We found that the antibody LM609 to integrin alpha(v)beta3 preferentially stains the blood vessels of small caliber. Furthermore, comparative studies between LM609 and anti-CD31 antibodies on normal breast indicate that very low and weak expression of integrin alpha(v)beta3 was found on vessels within normal tissue, whereas CD31 antigen was expressed in almost all vasculature. Indeed, expression of integrin alpha(v)beta3 was significantly higher in tumors of patients with metastasis than in those without metastasis. In a series of 197 consecutive patients with invasive breast cancer and long follow-up, vascular expression of integrin alpha(v)beta3 in tumor vascular "hot spots" was found to be the most significant prognostic factor predictive of relapse-free survival in both node-negative and node-positive patients. These findings support the contention that angiogenesis plays a critical role in breast cancer progression and suggest that integrin alpha(v)beta3 is an endothelial cell marker with significant prognostic value and potential usefulness as a target for specific antiangiogenic therapy.  相似文献

In this paper, an intelligent agent-based communication support platform for multimodal transport is developed. The rationale for doing so is found in the potential of such a system to increase cost efficiency, service and safety for different transport-related actors. Although, at present several comparable systems exist, their current implementation is far from successful because of technological and economic obstacles. The new expert communication platform put forward here (called MamMoeT) addresses these two issues by using a software agent-based approach. Software agents are pieces of software representing a single user. They are autonomous, communicative and intelligent. The MamMoeT system developed can be described as a real-time decision support system in which intelligent software agents handle communicative tasks, exchange desired amounts of information among different users using common exchange protocols which act as translators between different systems.  相似文献

This paper studies the problem of constructing the workforce schedules of an aircraft maintenance company. The problem involves both a staffing and a scheduling decision. We propose an enumerative algorithm with bounding in which each node of the enumeration tree represents a mixed integer linear problem (MILP). We reformulate the MILP such that it becomes tractable for commercial MILP solvers. Extensive computational tests on 40 instances that are derived from a real-life setting indicate that the algorithm is capable of finding close-to-optimal solutions.  相似文献

The performance of climate control systems in vehicles becomes more and more important, especially against the background of the important relationship between compartment climate and driver mental condition and, thus, traffic safety. The performance of two different types of climate control systems, an un-air-conditioned heating/cooling device (VW) and an air-conditioning climate control unit (BMW), is compared using modern and practical evaluation techniques quantifying both the dynamic 3-D temperature distribution and the local air refreshment rate. Both systems suffer from considerable temperature gradients: temperature gradients in the U-AC (VW) car up to 8-9 degrees C are encountered, while the AC (BMW) delivers clear improvement resulting in temperature gradients of 5-6 degrees C. The experiments clearly demonstrate the effect of the presence of even a single passenger on the thermal regime, increasing the existing thermal discrepancies in the compartment with 15% independent of ventilation rate. Furthermore, in terms of air refreshment rates in the vehicle compartment, an air-conditioning unit halves the air refreshment time at all positions in the vehicle cabin, delivering a significant improvement in terms of human comfort. Similarly, extra air inlets in the back compartment of a car deliver progress in terms of cabin refreshment rate (93 s down to 50 s).  相似文献
