: Caseins prepared by microfiltration of bovine skim milk were fractionated using anion‐exchange chromatography. Laser densitometry of electrophoresis gels was shown to be sufficiently quantitative to perform accurate mass balance calculations detailing the fate of each casein fraction. L‐cysteine was successfully used as a reducing agent instead of traditional toxic agents, such as dithiothreitol or β‐mercaptoethanol, enabling development of the first food‐grade buffer system for casein fractionation. More salt was required for elution of the casein fractions having a greater charge: αs‐casein > β‐casein > κ‐casein. Increasing flow rate decreased the extent of separation. Use of smaller beads was suggested as a method to maintain separation at increased flow rate. 相似文献

A comparative study has been performed on the sulfate resistance of Portland limestone cement (PLC) mortars exposed to extraordinary high sulfate concentrations (200 g/l). PLCs have been prepared by using two types of clinkers having different C3S/C2S ratios and interstitial phase morphologies. Blended cements have been prepared by replacing 5%, 10%, 20% and 40% of clinker with limestone. Cubic (50 × 50 × 50 mm) and prismatic (25 × 25 × 285 mm) cement mortars were prepared. After two months initial water curing, these samples were exposed to three different sulfate solutions (Na2SO4 at 20 °C and 5 °C, MgSO4 at 5 °C). Solutions were not refreshed and pH values of solutions were monitored during the testing stage. The compressive strength and length changes of samples have been monitored for a period of 1 year. Additional microstructural analyses have been conducted by XRD and SEM/EDS studies. Results indicated that in general, limestone replacement ratio and low temperature negatively affect the sulfate resistance of cement mortars. Additionally, clinkers of high C3S/C2S ratios with dendritic interstitial phase structure were found to be more prone to sulfate attack in the presence of high amounts of limestone.From the results, it is postulated that in the absence of solution change, extraordinary high sulfate content modified the mechanism of sulfate reactions and formation of related products. At high limestone replacement ratios, XRD and SEM/EDS studies revealed that while ettringite is the main deterioration product for the samples exposed to Na2SO4, gypsum and thaumasite formation were dominant products of deterioration in the case of MgSO4 attack. It can be concluded that, the difference between reaction mechanisms of Na2SO4 and MgSO4 attack to limestone cement mortars strongly depends on the pH change of sulfate solutions. 相似文献

FixMyStreet (FMS) is a web-based civic participation platform that allows inhabitants to report environmental defects like potholes and damaged pavements to the government. In this paper, we examine the use of FMS in Brussels, the capital city of Belgium. Analyzing a total of 30,041 reports since its inception in 2013, we demonstrate how civic participation on FMS varies between the ethnically diverse districts in Brussels. We compare FMS use to a range of sociodemographic indicators derived from official city statistics as well as geotagged social media data from Twitter. Our statistical analysis revealed several significant differences between the districts that suggested that crowdsourced civic participation platforms tend to marginalize low-income and ethnically diverse communities. In this respect, our findings provide timely evidence to inform the design of more inclusive crowdsourced, civic participation platforms in the future. 相似文献

ABSTRACTGluten contamination in manufactured gluten-free foods (mGFFs) is a major health, well-being and economic issue worldwide for both mandatory and voluntary GFF-consumers. Although scarce, a number of surveys have shown that up to 21.5 % of mGFFs in circulation in the market are contaminated with gluten. However, at the present time there is no published work reporting gluten contamination in mGFFs produced in Turkey. In this paper miscellaneous mGFFs produced in Turkey were analysed for gluten concentration (G) to fill this knowledge gap, and to compare the situation in Turkey with worldwide efforts on this issue. A total of 200 mGFFs from 8 product categories (snack, pasta, bread, cookie, cracker, farina, traditional and others), and manufactured using 7 main ingredients (cereal mixture, buckwheat, corn, rice, locust bean, potato, and others) were analysed. A significant portion of mGFFs (17.5 %) were contaminated with gluten and therefore unacceptable as being GFF. The results point to buckwheat as the main cause of this contamination. If buckwheat is excluded, the ratio of unacceptable mGFFs dramatically decreases to 6.3 % and probably to 1.8 %, which are comparable figures to those reported for other countries. Almost all countries are subjected to the same regulations on GFFs, and the problem of gluten contamination could readily be solved to a great extent if pre-market measures are mandated. Enforcing mGFF-producers to screen their raw materials and final products to detect the presence of gluten, and preventing the release of contaminated mGFFs into the market would be a practical measure in favour of all stakeholders involved in GFF-consumption. 相似文献

Olive leaf extract (OLE) (Olea europaea L.), which has antimicrobial effect on many food pathogens, was incorporated as antimicrobial agent into polylactic acid (PLA) films. Antimicrobial activities of films were tested against Staphylococcus aureus. Increasing amount of the OLE in the film discs from 0.9 mg to 5.4 mg caused a significant increase in inhibitory zones from 9.10 mm to 16.20 mm, respectively. Moreover, incorporation of OLE and/or increasing the amount in the film formulation significantly enhanced the water vapor permeability (WVP). The water solubility and the degradation rates of films increased up to 19.3% and 22.4%, respectively. Thus, OLE incorporated PLA films have a prospectively potential in antimicrobial food packaging to reduce post-process growth of S. aureus with improved properties. 相似文献

A scalar wave equation based recursive convolution finite-difference time-domain algorithm is developed for a frequency-dependent Debye medium in this paper. This algorithm is based on a recursive evaluation of a convolution integral in the time domain. A numerical example is presented for a problem of wide-band reflection from an air-water interface. The obtained results are compared with an analytical solution. The excellent agreement is observed between the numerical results. Memory and computational time advantages of the proposed method over Maxwell’s equations based solution are also shown. 相似文献

Information on the mechanical properties and repairability of computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) blocks is scarce. Five CAD/CAM blocks with similar indications were evaluated, including four resin nanoceramics, one polymer-infiltrated ceramic network (PICN), and one feldspathic ceramic. CAD/CAM blocks were sectioned into 4 mm × 1.2 mm × 13 mm bars for flexural strength (FS), and 4 mm thick blocks were prepared for elastic modulus (EM), nanohardness (NH), and microshear bond strength (µSBS) testing. FS of the CAD/CAM blocks was determined using a three-point bending test, whereas EM and NH values were measured using a nanoindenter. The reparability of the tested block materials was determined by the µSBS test. One-way ANOVA was conducted for FS, EM, NH, and µSBS followed by Tukey's pairwise comparison (α < 0.05). FS ranged from 115 to 207 MPa, EM from 8.21 to 44 GPa, NH from 0.76 to 7.24, and µSBS from 24.9 to 30.6 MPa. The findings of the present study revealed that resin nanoceramic blocks exhibited higher FS values than PICN and feldspathic ceramic, and they have acceptable mechanical properties for the fabrication of single-unit restorations according to the ISO 6872:2008.
