Organic-based magnets are intriguing materials with unique magnetic and electronic properties that can be tailored by chemical methodology. By using molecular layer deposition (MLD), we demonstrate the thin film fabrication of V[TCNE: tetracyanoethylene](x), of the first known room temperature organic-based magnet. The resulting films exhibit improvement in surface morphology, larger coercivity (80 Oe), and higher Curie temperature/thermal stability (up to 400 K). Recently, the MLD method has been widely studied to implement fine control of organic film growth for various applications. This work broadens its application to magnetic and charge transfer materials and opens new opportunities for metal-organic hybrid material development and their applications in various multilayer film device structures. Finally, we demonstrate the applicability of the multilayer V[TCNE](x) as a spin injector combining LSMO, an standard inorganic magnetic semiconductor, for spintronics applications. 相似文献

The abuse or misuse of antibiotics has caused the emergence of extensively drug-resistant (XDR) bacteria, rendering most antibiotics ineffective and increasing the mortality rate of patients with bacteremia or sepsis. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are proposed to overcome this problem; however, many AMPs have attenuated antimicrobial activities with hemolytic toxicity in blood. Recently, AMPR-11 and its optimized derivative, AMPR-22, were reported to be potential candidates for the treatment of sepsis with a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity and low hemolytic toxicity. Here, we performed molecular dynamics (MD) simulations to clarify the mechanism of lower hemolytic toxicity and higher efficacy of AMPR-22 at an atomic level. We found four polar residues in AMPR-11 bound to a model mimicking the bacterial inner/outer membranes preferentially over eukaryotic plasma membrane. AMPR-22 whose polar residues were replaced by lysine showed a 2-fold enhanced binding affinity to the bacterial membrane by interacting with bacterial specific lipids (lipid A or cardiolipin) via hydrogen bonds. The MD simulations were confirmed experimentally in models that partially mimic bacteremia conditions in vitro and ex vivo. The present study demonstrates why AMPR-22 showed low hemolytic toxicity and this approach using an MD simulation would be helpful in the development of AMPs. 相似文献

HDAC6 is overexpressed in ovarian cancer and is known to be correlated with tumorigenesis. Accordingly, ACY-241, a selective HDAC6 inhibitor, is currently under clinical trial and has been tested in combination with various drugs. HDAC8, another member of the HDAC family, has recently gained attention as a novel target for cancer therapy. Here, we evaluated the synergistic anticancer effects of PCI-34051 and ACY-241 in ovarian cancer. Among various ovarian cancer cells, PCI-34051 effectively suppresses cell proliferation in wild-type p53 ovarian cancer cells compared with mutant p53 ovarian cancer cells. In ovarian cancer cells harboring wild-type p53, PCI-34051 in combination with ACY-241 synergistically represses cell proliferation, enhances apoptosis, and suppresses cell migration. The expression of pro-apoptotic proteins is synergistically upregulated, whereas the expressions of anti-apoptotic proteins and metastasis-associated proteins are significantly downregulated in combination treatment. Furthermore, the level of acetyl-p53 at K381 is synergistically upregulated upon combination treatment. Overall, co-inhibition of HDAC6 and HDAC8 through selective inhibitors synergistically suppresses cancer cell proliferation and metastasis in p53 wild-type ovarian cancer cells. These results suggest a novel approach to treating ovarian cancer patients and the therapeutic potential in developing HDAC6/8 dual inhibitors. 相似文献

To solve the problem due to fast illumination change in a visual surveillance system, we propose a novel moving object detection algorithm for which we develop an illumination change model, a chromaticity difference model, and a brightness ratio model. When fast illumination change occurs, background pixels as well as moving object pixels are detected as foreground pixels. To separate detected foreground pixels into moving object pixels and false foreground pixels, we develop a chromaticity difference model and a brightness ratio model that estimates the intensity difference and intensity ratio of false foreground pixels, respectively. These models are based on the proposed illumination change model. A new semantic-based video scene retrieval method is proposed in this paper. Twelve low-level features extracted from a video clip are represented in a genetic chromosome and target videos that user has in mind are retrieved by the interactive genetic algorithm through the feedback iteration. In this procedure, high-level semantic relevance between retrieved videos is accumulated with so-called semantic relevance matrix and semantic frequency matrix for each iteration, and they are combined with an automatic feature weight update scheme to retrieve more target videos at the next iteration. Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is one of essential oxygen metabolites in living organisms, but is generated in large amounts during inflammatory responses. Therefore, H2O2 has great potential as diagnostic and therapeutic markers of several inflammatory and life‐threatening diseases. Here, chemiluminescent and antioxidant micelles are reported as novel theranostic agents for H2O2‐associated inflammatory diseases. The chemiluminescent micelles composed of amphiphilic block copolymer Pluronic F‐127, hydroxybenzyl alcohol‐incorporated copolyoxalate (HPOX) and fluorescent dyes perform peroxalate chemiluminescence reactions to detect H2O2 as low as 100 nM and image H2O2 generated in inflamed mouse ankles. The micelles encapsulating HPOX reduce the generation of reactive oxygen species in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)‐activated macrophages by scavenging overproduced H2O2 and releasing antioxidant hydroxybenzyl alcohol (HBA). They also exert inhibitory effects on H2O2‐induced apoptosis. HPOX‐based chemiluminescent and antioxidant micelles have great potential as a theranostic agent for H2O2‐associated inflammatory diseases. 相似文献

Wastewater produced during recycling of spent lithium primary battery was biologically treated with Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans to decrease the pH and metal concentration. Since the wastewater contains high concentrations of Cr, Ni, and Li, the effects of these metals on the bacterial activity in a 9 K medium were also investigated. Samples of the medium with different metal concentrations were treated, and the oxidation ratio of Fe2+ ions was measured to examine the activity of bacteria. In the treatment of simulated wastewater, the presence of Cr and Ni ions with concentrations of 8000 g m?3 and 13,000 g m?3, respectively, did not inhibit the bacterial activity, whereas the oxidation ratio of Fe2+ ions was observed to be low in the medium when Li ion was present with a concentration at 5000 g m?3. This observation suggested that at this concentration, Li ion suppressed the bacterial activity. In the case of treatment of real wastewater containing Cr, Ni, and Li, the oxidation ratio of Fe2+ to Fe3+ was observed to be low while the Fe concentration and pH decreased to 21,633 g m?3 and 1.8, respectively. Thus, the wastewater produced during the recycling of spent lithium primary batteries can be effectively treated biologically for re-circulating in the recycling process. 相似文献

A new manufacturing technology is being employed to build a new type of armored vehicle. While thick panels are welded together
in the old manufacturing technology, relatively thin panels are welded to a frame structure in the new manufacturing technology.
The structural integrity of the new type of armor vehicles can be maintained mainly by the frame structures while the panel
thickness is reduced significantly to reduce the total vehicle weight. Since the dynamic characteristics of a frame-panel
hybrid structure are different from those of the old type of structure which consists of only thick panels, they should be
identified to achieve a good performance of the vehicle. For this purpose, a proper FE model of the hybrid type of structure
needs to be developed. In the present study, FE models are proposed to represent the frame-panel hybrid type structure efficiently.
The impact energy propagation, the transient response and the modal characteristics are investigated with the FE models.
