This work is devoted to the theoretical understanding of the microstructure and thermal conductivity relationships of compacted ceramic powders in the initial, nondensifying stage of sintering. A model based on surface diffusion of vacancies for the growth of the neck between particles is combined with numerical fully three-dimensional code calculations, which solve for the effective heat conductivity coefficient of lightly sintered particles. The predictions of the model are in agreement with experimental observations. The approach presented can be applied to solve a series of related problems, like dielectric properties, with arbitrary microstructure and multicomponent composite of the powders.  相似文献

Gecko-inspired microfibre arrays with 42 million polypropylene fibres cm(-2) (each fibre with elastic modulus 1 GPa, length 20 microm and diameter 0.6 microm) were fabricated and tested under pure shear loading conditions, after removing a preload of less than 0.1 N cm(-2). After sliding to engage fibres, 2 cm2 patches developed up to 4N of shear force with an estimated contact region of 0.44 cm2. The control unfibrillated surface had no measurable shear force. For comparison, a natural setal patch tested under the same conditions on smooth glass showed approximately seven times greater shear per unit estimated contact region. Similar to gecko fibre arrays, the synthetic patch maintains contact and increases shear force with sliding. The high shear force observed (approx. 210 nN per fibre) suggests that fibres are in side contact, providing a larger true contact area than would be obtained by tip contact. Shear force increased over the course of repeated tests for synthetic patches, suggesting deformation of fibres into more favourable conformations.  相似文献

Middiaphyseal 2.5-cm segmental defects in the right femurs of 12 sheep were stabilized with stainless steel plates and implanted with (1) 2 mg recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein 2 and poly[D,L-(lactide-co-glycolide)] bioerodible polymer with autologous blood (n = 7), (2) 4 mg recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein 2 and poly[D,L-(lactide-co-glycolide)] and blood (n = 3), or (3) poly[D,L-(lactide-co-glycolide)] and blood only (n = 2). Bone healing was evaluated for 1 year using clinical, radiographic, gross pathologic, and histologic techniques. Union occurred in three sheep in Group 1, two in Group 2, and none in Group 3. In the animals that healed, new bone first was visible radiographically between Weeks 2 and 6 after implantation; new bone mineral content equaled that of the intact femur not surgically treated by Week 16; recanalization of the medullary cavity approached completion at Week 52; and at necropsy the surgical treated femurs were rigidly healed, the poly[D,L-(lactide-co-glycolide)] was resorbed completely, and woven and lamellar bone bridged the defect site. In two Group 1 sheep euthanized at Weeks 2 and 6, polymer particles were permeated by occasional multinucleated giant cells. Some plasma cells, lymphocytes, and neutrophils were present locally. The poly[D,L-(lactide-co-glycolide)] tended to fragment during surgical implantation. Despite these observations, the recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein 2/poly[D,L-(lactide-co-glycolide)] implant was able to heal large segmental bone defects in this demanding model.  相似文献

The cause of neurodegeneration in Parkinson's disease (PD) remains unknown. However, isoquinoline derivatives structurally related to the selective dopaminergic toxin 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP) and its active metabolite, 1-methyl-4-phenylpyridinim (MPP+), have emerged as candidate endogenous neurotoxins causing nigral cell death in Parkinson's disease. Isoquinoline derivatives are widely distributed in the environment, being present in many plants and foodstuffs, and readily cross the blood-brain barrier. These compounds occur naturally in human brain where they are synthesized by non-enzymatic condensation of biogenic amines (e.g. catecholamines and phenylethylamine) with aldehydes, and are metabolized by cytochrome P450s and N-methyltransferases. In addition, isoquinoline derivatives are oxidized by monoamine oxidases to produce isoquinolinium cations with the concomitant generation of reactive oxygen species. Neutral and quaternary isoquinoline derivatives accumulate in dopaminergic nerve terminals via the dopamine re-uptake system, for which they have moderate to poor affinity as substrates. Several isoquinoline derivatives are selective and more potent inhibitors of NADH ubiquinone reductase (complex I) and alpha-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase activity in mitochondrial fragments than MPP+, and lipophilicity appears to be important for complex I inhibition by isoquinoline derivatives. However, compared with MPP+, isoquinoline derivatives are selective but less potent inhibitors of NADH-linked respiration in intact mitochondria, and this appears to be a consequence of their rate-limiting ability to cross mitochondrial membranes. Although both active and passive processes are involved in the accumulation of isoquinoline derivatives in mitochondria, inhibition of respiration is determined by steric rather than electrostatic properties. Compared with 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine or MPP+, isoquinoline derivatives show selective but relatively weak toxicity to dopamine-containing cells in culture and following systemic or intracerebral administration to experimental animals, which appears to be a consequence of poor sequestration of isoquinoline derivatives by mitochondria and by dopamine-containing neurones. In conclusion, the 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine-like cytotoxic characteristics of isoquinoline derivatives and the endogenous/environmental presence of these compounds make it conceivable that high concentrations of and/or prolonged exposure to isoquinoline derivatives might cause neurodegeneration and Parkinson's disease in humans.  相似文献

For imaging radar and for satelitte and space communication (e.g. NASA's deep space network), it is important that the bandwidth be as large as possible. Here we derive a formalism for computing the phase locking bandwidth that can be achieved in a gyrotron oscillator while varying the beam voltage. As an example, a second harmonic TE02/03 gyrotron is considered. For this device, the effective bandwidth can be increased by a factor of about 3 compared with the fixed voltage case by allowing the beam voltage to change together with the input locking signal.  相似文献

A theoretical investigation of previous experiments on the microwave heating of cylindrical samples of powdered ZnO in nitrogen and air environments has been presented. Unlike heating in air, which showed an exponentially saturating temperature behavior, a large discontinuity in the measured temperature was observed in nitrogen. Energy considerations suggested that the microwave power was mostly absorbed in a narrow, localized region that moved radially outward as a propagating heat wave. It was assumed that this behavior was caused by an anomaly in the temperature dependence of the permittivity, and the present simulations verify this assumption. The phenomenon has been investigated using a newly developed two-dimensional code, and the results are in good agreement with the experimental observations. The calculated width of the microwave absorbing region was ∼1 mm, and the radial velocity of the electromagnetically driven heat wave was inversely proportional to the square of the distance from the center of the sample, with a maximum speed of ∼20 mm/min.  相似文献

Precast concrete components can be used in building construction within a comprehensive “closed” system, or as separate elements in conjunction with any building method. The feasibility of this second possibility was examined within the framework of a conventional building system and the following alternatives of elements utilization: prestressed modular floor slabs, exterior walls, and a combination of slabs and exterior walls. Each of these alternatives was compared to the conventional system without precast elements. The following criteria were used as a basis for the comparison: the labor requirement, the direct building cost (labor and materials), the construction time, and other considerations of more subjective nature. The findings of the study indicated that the utilization of precast elements might considerably reduce the labor requirement on site, and the project construction time. The direct building costs were almost unaffected by the alternative solutions.  相似文献
