Climate change benefits and energy supply benefits as determinants of acceptance of nuclear power stations: Investigating an explanatory model 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Several countries are currently discussing whether they will rebuild their nuclear power stations in order to continue this type of energy production in the future. The public, with its own opinion about nuclear power stations, has an influential voice in this discussion. As a result, policy makers and nuclear scientists are interested in the public's perception of nuclear power and in what determines this perception. We therefore examined an explanatory model of the public's acceptance of nuclear power based on a telephone survey among a representative sample in Switzerland. The model included such factors as risk perception, benefit perception, affective feelings, and social trust. Moreover, we distinguished between two types of benefit perception: benefit for the climate and a secure energy supply. The model fitted very well to our data and explained acceptance very well. Acceptance was mainly influenced by perceived benefits for a secure energy supply and, to a lesser extent, both by perceived benefits for the climate and by risk perception. Affective feelings about nuclear power appeared to be a central factor in the model. Implications for communication about nuclear power stations and for further research are discussed. 相似文献

Soluble, easily processable polymer–metal complexes with improved optical and dielectric properties for optoelectronic functional materials were obtained. For this, a new polyazomethine (PAZ2) was prepared by the reaction of a siloxane dialdehyde and bis(formyl‐p‐phenoxymethyl) tetramethyldisiloxane with 2,5‐bis(p‐aminophenyl)‐1,3,4‐oxadiazole, and it was used as a ligand for Cu(II), Co(II), and Zn(II) ions on the basis of the presence of the electron‐donor nitrogen atoms from the azomethine group and oxadiazole ring. The structure of the PAZ2 was determined by spectral [Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and 1H‐NMR spectroscopy] techniques. The metal complexation was proven by FTIR spectroscopy, and the silicon‐to‐metal ratios in the complexes were established by energy‐dispersive X‐ray fluorescence. The new materials were characterized by gel permeation chromatography, thermogravimetric analysis, and differential scanning calorimetry. The optical properties of PAZ2 and the derived metal complexes were studied by ultraviolet–visible and fluorescence spectroscopies. PAZ2 shows fluorescence emission, and it was significantly enhanced by metal complexation. The emission was enhanced by protonation; this behavior is useful, especially for sensors. The electrical properties were investigated by dielectric spectroscopy at various frequencies and temperatures, and this emphasized the existence of dipolar relaxations. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Condensed tannins derived from Pinus radiata bark have been esterified and added to biodegradable plastics as extrusion compounded functional plastic additives. The presence of longer alkyl chain hexanoate esters promoted tannin miscibility in the commercial polyesters Bionolle? and Biopol? whereas short chain acetate esters tended to remain as discrete domains, acting as fillers in the processed plastics. In the aliphatic polyester Bionolle the presence of tannin esters at typical plastic additive loadings did not alter plastic mechanical properties whereas at 5% content in Biopol the tannin‐additives reduced both flexural and tensile properties. Similarly tannin esters do not alter the melt or glass transition temperatures of the polyesters, but tannin hexanoate at 5% can influence the crystallization temperatures. Artificially aging plastics realized the functionality these plant extracts can impart to plastics in acting to reduce ultraviolet (UV)‐induced plastic degradation. Results indicate the tannin‐additives likely provide a stabilising role through inhibiting UV penetration into the plastic, with color analysis suggesting the tannin moiety itself was sacrificial and preferentially degrading. The imparted UV stability was linked to the dissolution of tannin esters in the plastic with longer chain esters providing greater protection against UV degradation. Ceramic matrix composites with SylramicTM and CG NicalonTM SiC fibers and SiC‐HfB2 matrices derived from a combination of polymer‐derived SiC ceramic and HfB2 particulate slurries were prepared. The composites were tested for oxidation resistance by laser heating at 2 MW/m2 to achieve temperatures near 1600°C. The oxidation resistance was compared between uncoated CG NicalonTM and BN‐coated SylramicTM fiber‐based composites. The fabrication of cellulose-spider silk bio-nanocomposites comprised of cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) and recombinant spider silk protein fused to a cellulose binding domain (CBD) is described. Silk-CBD successfully binds cellulose, and unlike recombinant silk alone, silk-CBD self-assembles into microfibrils even in the absence of CNCs. Silk-CBD-CNC composite sponges and films show changes in internal structure and CNC alignment related to the addition of silk-CBD. The silk-CBD sponges exhibit improved thermal and structural characteristics in comparison to control recombinant spider silk sponges. The glass transition temperature (Tg) of the silk-CBD sponge was higher than the control silk sponge and similar to native dragline spider silk fibers. Gel filtration analysis, dynamic light scattering (DLS), small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) and cryo-transmission electron microscopy (TEM) indicated that silk-CBD, but not the recombinant silk control, formed a nematic liquid crystalline phase similar to that observed in native spider silk during the silk spinning process. Silk-CBD microfibrils spontaneously formed in solution upon ultrasonication. We suggest a model for silk-CBD assembly that implicates CBD in the central role of driving the dimerization of spider silk monomers, a process essential to the molecular assembly of spider-silk nanofibers and silk-CNC composites. 相似文献

In this paper, dielectric and calorimetric studies of the small-molecule glass former allyl acetoacetate monomers as well as its newly synthetized homopolymer and copolymers with different styrene composition were performed in both the liquid and glassy states. The molecular dynamics studies by the broadband dielectric spectroscopy and the stochastic temperature modulated differential scanning calorimetry enabled us to explore relaxation processes of examined materials in the wide frequency range. We found that the copolymers reveal two co-existing glass transitions characterized by the glass transition temperatures, which are very close to those of the corresponding homopolymers. These results suggest that the copolymers exhibited some sequences of acetoacetate units with a microphase-separated morphology in agreement with the value of reactivity ratio previously determined. We investigated effects of copolymerization compositions on the glass transition temperature, the isobaric fragility index, the dielectric and calorimetric intensity, and the dynamic heterogeneity on the glass transitions of the materials. 相似文献

Stable and easily-handled synthetic materials mimicking natural enzymes activity would find important biotechnological applications. This article describes the synthesis and characterization of magnetic molecularly imprinted catalytic polymers that exhibit peroxidase-like activity towards 5-hydroxyindole-3-acetic acid (5-HIAA) oxidation. This multifunctional material is obtained from highly crystalline magnetite nuclei coated with a silica layer to protect the iron nucleus from oxidation and to provide anchoring for hydroxyl surface groups. After acrylic functionalization via sol–gel process, a molecularly imprinted polymer with hemin as catalytic center and 5-HIAA as template has been successfully attached to the structure. The resulting hybrid composite is magnetically separable and possesses excellent catalytic ability for the selective oxidation of the indoleamine metabolite tumor marker, showing Michaelis–Menten kinetics with this molecule but not towards other structural analogs. The cornea is an avascular connective tissue that is crucial, not only as the primary barrier of the eye but also as a proper transparent refractive structure. Corneal transparency is necessary for vision and is the result of several factors, including its highly organized structure, the physiology of its few cellular components, the lack of myelinated nerves (although it is extremely innervated), the tightly controlled hydration state, and the absence of blood and lymphatic vessels in healthy conditions, among others. The avascular, immune-privileged tissue of the cornea is an ideal model to study the interactions between its well-characterized and dense sensory nerves (easily accessible for both focal electrophysiological recording and morphological studies) and the low number of resident immune cell types, distinguished from those cells migrating from blood vessels. This paper presents an overview of the corneal structure and innervation, the resident dendritic cell (DC) subpopulations present in the cornea, their distribution in relation to corneal nerves, and their role in ocular inflammatory diseases. A mouse model in which sensory axons are constitutively labeled with tdTomato and DCs with green fluorescent protein (GFP) allows further analysis of the neuro-immune crosstalk under inflammatory and steady-state conditions of the eye. 相似文献

Kinetics and Mechanism of the Reaction of 2-Aminobenzimidazoles with Aryl Cyanates The second order rate constants for the reaction of 2-amino-benzimidazoles (2-ABI) with aryl cyanates forming 2-amino-benzimidazole aryl ester imide 3 have been determined in dependence on substituent effects by u. v. measurements. The results are interpreted by a six-membered cyclic transition state in which the electrophilic attack of the cyanate on the endocyclic N atom is catalyzed by an H bridge interaction of the exocyclic amino group of 2-ABI with the OCN group. 相似文献
