Interactions between insects and glucosinolate-containing plant species have been investigated for a long time. Although the glucosinolate–myrosinase system is believed to act as a defense mechanism against generalist herbivores and fungi, several specialist insects use these secondary metabolites for host plant finding and acceptance and can handle them physiologically. However, sequestration of glucosinolates in specialist herbivores has been less well studied. Larvae of the turnip sawfly Athalia rosae feed on several glucosinolate-containing plant species. When larvae are disturbed by antagonists, they release one or more small droplets of hemolymph from their integument. This reflex bleeding is used as a defense mechanism. Specific glucosinolate analysis, by conversion to desulfoglucosinolates and analysis of these by high-performance liquid chromatography coupled to diode array UV spectroscopy and mass spectrometry, revealed that larvae incorporate and concentrate the plant's characteristic glucosinolates from their hosts. Extracts of larvae that were reared on Sinapis alba contained sinalbin, even when the larvae were first starved for 22 hr and, thus, had empty guts. Hemolymph was analyzed from larvae that were reared on either S. alba, Brassica nigra, or Barbarea stricta. Leaves were analyzed from the same plants the larvae had fed on. Sinalbin (from S. alba), sinigrin (B. nigra), or glucobarbarin and glucobrassicin (B. stricta) were present in leaves in concentrations less than 1 mol/g fresh weight, while the same glucosinolates could be detected in the larvae's hemolymph in concentrations between 10 and 31 mol/g fresh weight, except that glucobrassicin was present only as a trace. In larval feces, only trace amounts of glucosinolates (sinalbin and sinigrin) could be detected. The glucosinolates were likewise found in freshly emerged adults, showing that the sequestered phytochemicals were transferred through the pupal stage.  相似文献

The purpose of this work was to study the effects of spray-drying conditions on the physicochemical characteristics of blackberry powder using a central composite rotatable design. Inlet air temperature (140–180°C) and maltodextrin concentration (5–25%) were employed as independent variables. Moisture content, hygroscopicity, anthocyanin retention, color, powder morphology, and particle size were analyzed. A higher inlet air temperature significantly increased the hygroscopicity of the powder, decreased its moisture content, and led to the formation of larger particles with smooth surfaces. Powders produced with higher maltodextrin concentrations were less hygroscopic, slightly lighter and less red, and had a lower moisture content. Anthocyanin retention was mainly affected by drying temperature due to the heat sensitivity of the pigment. The optimal processing conditions were an inlet air temperature of 140–150°C and maltodextrin concentration of 5–7%. Overall, these results indicate that good quality powders can be obtained by spray drying, with potential applications for the food industry.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to evaluate the repair bond strength of silorane composites using either the silorane or methacrylate-based restorative systems. Expired silorane composite was used as the substrate material in all experimental groups. Silorane blocks (5?×?5?×?4?mm) were fabricated and stored at 37?°C for 24?h. Six experimental groups were developed according to the repair: I-silorane composite (no intermediary); II-P90 Bond/Silorane; III-P90 Adhesive System (primer/bond)/silorane; IV-P90 bond/Scotchbond Universal/methacrylate composite (Filtek P60); V-Scotchbond Universal/methacrylate; and VI-silane/Adper Single Bond 2/methacrylate. The repaired blocks were stored for 24?h at 37?°C, and then sectioned, yielding stick-shaped specimens (0.5?mm2) that were tested in tensile (0.5?mm/min). The results were analyzed using ANOVA/Tukey test (α?=?0.05). The interfacial micromorphology and nanoleakage were also analyzed under SEM. Scotchbond Universal/methacrylate composite, either associated with the P90 bond or not, exhibited similar bond strength to that of P90 Adhesive System/silorane composite. Scotchbond Universal either associated with the P90 Bond or not to repair the silorane allowed no pre-testing failures. The worst scenarios were repairing the silorane with no intermediary (G-I) or combination silane/Adper Single Bond 2/methacrylate composite (G-VI) that presented significantly lower bond strengths and higher incidences of pre-failure testing. The importance of the silane was not confirmed. Characteristic micromorphology and no signs of nanoleakage were identified in all experimental groups. The silane-containing, phosphorylated methacrylate-based adhesive associated with a methacrylate composite was proven to reliably repair the expired composite in a similar way to that of the application of dedicated silorane adhesive.  相似文献

In this paper a new method for cleaning of filter media is presented, and the cleanability with different textures and surface finishes is compared. With the method described, it is possible to evaluate the quality of the cleaning process. According to the German VDMA standard cleaning test, riboflavin and malt extract are applied as model contaminants for evaluation of the cleaning results. To compare the cleanability of filter media with different properties and geometries the results are adapted to the law of mass transfer and to the Sherwood number, a dimensionless parameter describing the quality of a cleaning process.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to characterize the fatty acid composition of the core and membrane of differently sized milk fat globules separated by microfiltration, which can now be used to manufacture dairy products. Native milk fat globules of various mean diameters, ranging from d43 = 2.3 µm to 8.0 µm, were obtained using microfiltration of raw whole milk. After milk fat globule washing, the milk fat globule membrane (MFGM) and the triglyceride core (TC) were separated by manual churning. After total lipid extraction from each fraction, their fatty acid composition was characterized using methyl ester analysis by gas chromatography. Regardless of season, no significant differences were observed in the fatty acid composition of the MFGM phospholipids. Conversely, significant differences were found in the fatty acid composition of TC; particularly, small fat globule TC contained more medium‐chain fatty acids and less stearic acid than large fat globule TC. These results show that the previously observed differences in total fatty acid composition among differently sized milk fat globules are due to their triglyceride composition and MFGM amount rather than to the composition of the MFGM.  相似文献

Non-viral gene delivery has become a popular approach in tissue engineering, as it permits the transient delivery of a therapeutic gene, in order to stimulate tissue repair. However, the efficacy of non-viral delivery vectors remains an issue. Our lab has created gene-activated scaffolds by incorporating various non-viral delivery vectors, including the glycosaminoglycan-binding enhanced transduction (GET) peptide into collagen-based scaffolds with proven osteogenic potential. A modification to the GET peptide (FLR) by substitution of arginine residues with histidine (FLH) has been designed to enhance plasmid DNA (pDNA) delivery. In this study, we complexed pDNA with combinations of FLR and FLH peptides, termed GET* nanoparticles. We sought to enhance our gene-activated scaffold platform by incorporating GET* nanoparticles into collagen–nanohydroxyapatite scaffolds with proven osteogenic capacity. GET* N/P 8 was shown to be the most effective formulation for delivery to MSCs in 2D. Furthermore, GET* N/P 8 nanoparticles incorporated into collagen–nanohydroxyapatite (coll–nHA) scaffolds at a 1:1 ratio of collagen:nanohydroxyapatite was shown to be the optimal gene-activated scaffold. pDNA encoding stromal-derived factor 1α (pSDF-1α), an angiogenic chemokine which plays a role in BMP mediated differentiation of MSCs, was then delivered to MSCs using our optimised gene-activated scaffold platform, with the aim of significantly increasing angiogenesis as an important precursor to bone repair. The GET* N/P 8 coll–nHA scaffolds successfully delivered pSDF-1α to MSCs, resulting in a significant, sustained increase in SDF-1α protein production and an enhanced angiogenic effect, a key precursor in the early stages of bone repair.  相似文献

Equilibrium and isosteric heat of adsorption for the system of chloroform and USY-type zeolite were studied. The USY-type zeolite (PQ Co., SiO2/Al2O3=70) was used both as a pure crystalline powder and as granulated particles with binder. Chloroform was reagent grade. The adsorption equilibria were measured using a gravimetric method and were expressed as isotherms. A chromatographic method (i.e. pulse response of chloroform through the USY column with helium carrier) was used to get the initial slope of the isotherms. In the simulation, the GCMC method was used to calculate amounts adsorbed for various conditions. FF parameters were confidently applied. And modified structure model was effective for simulation. This paper was presented at The 5th International Symposium on Separation Technology-Korea and Japan held at Seoul between August 19 and 21, 1999.  相似文献

Rapid gravity, granular media filters are widely used in the water and wastewater treatment industries. Regular backwashing to clean the filters is a vital part of their efficient operation. Experimental data on the development of suspension concentration profiles through laboratory scale filter beds during the backwash process were obtained. Previous attempts to obtain and record backwash profiles of this type have been unsuccessful due to the limited range of existing turbidimeters. The results have been used to validate a new model developed by the authors.  相似文献
