This study aimed to determine the prevalence and quantity of Salmonella spp., Salmonella Typhi and Salmonella Typhimurium in sliced fruits from hawker stalls and hypermarkets in Malaysia. Analysis was carried out using the most probable number (MPN) – multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method. The prevalence of Salmonella spp., Salmonella Typhi and Salmonella Typhimurium in 210 samples of sliced fruits examined were 23.3%, 7.6% and 3.8%, respectively with estimated quantity varying from 0 to 19 MPN/g. This study urged the authority to look into the biosafety of sliced fruits in Malaysia. 相似文献

We propose a novel method for signal storage and encryption, called single-beam multiplexing encoding. The single beam is composed of an inside signal beam and an outside reference beam. The signal beam is amplitude modulated, and the reference beam is phase modulated. The dual modulation is implemented by a spatial light modulator (SLM). Multiplexing holography with different reference beams from different directions, called directional multiplexing, is analyzed in detail. With an SLM based on a twisted nematic liquid crystal display, we demonstrate a single-beam directional multiplexing method using a holographic encoding technique, and the retrieved signals are presented. This encoding system is more stable, miniaturized, and flexible. It should be of great interest for applications in signal encryption as well as for high-capacity data storage. 相似文献

Xylose lysine decarboxylase (XLD) medium, a selective plating medium, can inhibit heat-injured Salmonella typhimurium from growing, whereas tryptic soy agar (TSA), a nonselective medium, does not. To facilitate recovery of heat-injured S. typhimurium cells while providing selectivity of isolation of S. typhimurium from other bacteria in the sample, a thin agar layer (TAL) procedure was developed by overlaying 14 ml of nonselective medium (TSA) onto prepoured and solidified XLD medium in a 8.5 cm diameter Petri dish. During the first few hours of incubating the plate, the injured S. typhimurium repaired and started to grow in the TSA. During the resuscitation of injured cells, the selective agents from XLD were diffused to the TSA top layer part. Once the selective agents diffused to the top part of the TAL, the resuscitated S. typhimurium started to produce a typical reaction (black color) and other microorganisms were inhibited by the selective agents. The recovery rate for heat-injured (55 degrees C for 15 min) S. typhimurium with the TAL method was compared with TSA, XLD, and the traditional overlay method (OV; pouring selective agar on top of resuscitated cells on TSA agar 3-4 h after incubation). No significant difference occurred among TSA, OV, and TAL (P > 0.05) for enumeration of heat-injured S. typhimurium, but they recovered significantly higher numbers than from XLD agar (P < 0.05). 相似文献

Charring of organic carbon (OC) during thermal/optical analysis is monitored by the change in a laser signal either reflected from or transmitted through a filter punch. Elemental carbon (EC) in suspended particulate matter collected on quartz-fiber filters is defined as the carbon that evolves after the detected optical signal attains the value it had prior to commencement of heating, with the rest of the carbon classified as organic carbon (OC). Heretofore, operational definitions of EC were believed to be caused by different temperature protocols rather than by the method of monitoring charring. This work demonstrates that thermal/ optical reflectance (TOR) corrections yield equivalent OC/ EC splits for widely divergent temperature protocols. EC results determined by simultaneous thermal/optical transmittance (TOT) corrections are 30% lower than TOR for the same temperature protocol and 70-80% lower than TOR for a protocol with higher heating temperatures and shorter residence times. This is true for 58 urban samples from Fresno, CA, as well as for 30 samples from the nonurban IMPROVE network that are individually dominated by wildfire, vehicle exhaust, secondary organic aerosol, and calcium carbonate contributions. Visual examination of filter darkening at different temperature stages shows that substantial charring takes place within the filter, possibly due to adsorbed organic gases or diffusion of vaporized particles. The filter transmittance is more influenced by the within-filter char, whereas the filter reflectance is dominated by charring of the near-surface deposit that appears to evolve first when oxygen is added to helium in the analysis atmosphere for these samples. The amounts of charred OC (POC) and EC are also estimated from incremental absorbance. Small amounts of POC are found to dominate the incremental absorbance. EC estimated from absorbance are found to agree better with EC from the reflectance charring correction than with EC from the transmittance charring correction. 相似文献

In this paper, an Improved Fourier Five-Sensor (IF5S) measurement method is proposed for separating the straightness and yawing motion errors as well as determining the profile of a linear slide. The previous F5S method [3] used the constant parameters initially to estimate the profile function based on three sensor equations for different angle ranges. The profile estimation and error separation are implemented via an iterative method which can only yield acceptably accurate results with tremendous computational efforts. Here, the improved F5S method applies the least square regression technique instead of the iterative method to estimate the profile functions by using three distinct sets of parameters and different fused sensor data according to the travel of the linear slide. Various errors can then be separated based on the calculated profile function. Simulation results confirm that the IF5S method provides better performance and effectiveness as compared to the previous F5S method. 相似文献

Six residences were selected (two roadside, two urban, and two rural) to evaluate the indoor-outdoor characteristics of PM(2.5) (aerodynamic diameter <2.5 microm) carbonaceous species in Hong Kong during March and April 2004. Twenty-minute-averaged indoor and outdoor PM(2.5) concentrations were recorded by DustTrak samplers simultaneously at each site for 3 days to examine diurnal variability of PM(2.5) mass concentrations and their indoor-to-outdoor (I/O) ratios. Daily (24-h average) indoor/outdoor PM(2.5) samples were collected on pre-fired quartz-fiber filters with battery-powered portable mini-volume samplers and analyzed for organic and elemental carbon (OC, EC) by thermal/optical reflectance (TOR) following the Interagency Monitoring of Protected Visual Environments (IMPROVE) protocol. The average indoor and outdoor concentrations of 24 h PM(2.5) were 56.7 and 43.8 microg/m(3), respectively. The short-term PM(2.5) profiles indicated that the penetration of outdoor particles was an important contributor to indoor PM(2.5), and a household survey indicated that daily activities were also sources of episodic peaks in indoor PM(2.5). The average indoor OC and EC concentrations of 17.1 and 2.8 microg/m(3), respectively, accounted for an average of 29.5 and 5.2%, respectively, of indoor PM(2.5) mass. The average indoor OC/EC ratios were 5.8, 9.1, and 5.0 in roadside, urban, and rural areas, respectively; while average outdoor OC/EC ratios were 4.0, 4.3, and 4.0, respectively. The average I/O ratios of 24 h PM(2.5), OC, and EC were 1.4, 1.8, and 1.2, respectively. High indoor-outdoor correlations (r(2)) were found for PM(2.5) EC (0.96) and mass (0.81), and low correlations were found for OC (0.55), indicative of different organic carbon sources indoors. A simple model implied that about two-thirds of carbonaceous particles in indoor air are originated from outdoor sources. PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS: Indoor particulate pollution has received more attentions in Asia. This study presents a case study regarding the fine particulate matter and its carbonaceous compositions at six residential homes in Hong Kong. The characteristics and relationship of atmospheric organic and elemental carbon were discussed indoors and outdoors. The distribution of eight carbon fractions was first reported in indoor samples to interpret potential sources of indoor carbonaceous particles. The data set can provide significant scientific basis for indoor air quality and epidemiology study in Hong Kong and China. 相似文献

To determine the characteristic of carbonaceous species in atmospheric particles in Hong Kong, PM10 and PM2.5 samples were collected using high volume (hi-vol.) air samplers from November 2000 to February 2001. The organic carbon (OC) and elemental carbon (EC) were analyzed by the selective thermal manganese dioxide oxidation (TMO) method. The ratios of PM2.5/PM10 mass ratios were 0.61, 0.78 and 0.53 for particulate matter collected at PolyU station (PolyU, near a major traffic corridor), Kwun Tong station (KT, mixed residential/commercial/industrial) and the Hok Tsui background station (HT), respectively. These results indicate that the PM2.5 concentrations constitute the majority of the PM10 concentrations, especially in urban and industrial areas of Hong Kong. The average concentrations at the three sites ranged from 73.11 to 83.52 μg/m3 for PM10 and from 42.37 to 57.38 μg/m3 for PM2.5. The highest daily mass concentrations of PM10 and PM2.5 were 125.89 μg/m3 and 116.89 μg/m3 at KT, respectively. The correlation between PM10 and PM2.5 was high at KT and HT (r>0.9, P<0.01). This means that the sources of PM10 and PM2.5 may be the same at both sites. The highest mean concentration of OC (12.02 μg/m3) and EC (6.86 μg/m3) in PM10 was found at the PolyU among the three sites. For PM2.5, the highest mean concentration of OC (10.16 μg/m3) was at KT while the highest mean concentration of EC (7.95 μg/m3) was at PolyU. However, the background concentrations at HT were higher than another background area, Kosan, Korea. Transportation of pollutants from the Asian continent may be responsible for the elevations of EC+OC at the remote site. More than 74% of the EC and more than 79% of the OC were found in the PM2.5 fraction at the three sampling locations. At PolyU station, PM2.5 consisted of 18.18% OC and 11.16% EC while 17.70% OC and 8.81% EC were found in KT station. Thus OC and EC are major constituents of aerosols in Hong Kong. OC/EC ratios for PM10 and PM2.5 were less than 2 at PolyU and KT stations while the ratio exceeded 3 at HT background station. Effectiveness of spray application of potable water wash (WW), 25% (w/v) sodium chloride (NaCl), and 0.1% (v/v) acidified sodium chlorite (ASC) was evaluated against Escherichia coli O157:H7 and Staphylococcus aureus inoculated onto beef briskets. The purpose was to identify antimicrobial treatments which may be applied to beef carcasses and more specifically in kosher meat facilities. Treatments were applied for 10-60 s at pressure of 419 kPa. Water wash, NaCl, and ASC significantly reduced E. coli O157:H7 as compared with the control, although, only ASC resulted in improved removal with increased exposure time. Water wash did not significantly reduce S. aureus counts throughout exposure and NaCl was only effective after 60 s of exposure, while ASC reduced counts throughout exposure. E. coli O157:H7 was twice as sensitive to WW and NaCl as S. aureus in terms of percent reduction in cell count. 相似文献

Problems on occupational health and safety are commonly occurred in the construction industry, including falling of materials or person from height, stepping on objects and injured by hand tools. Key of dealing with project safety and risk assessment in construction industry is important, thus, way on doing assessment and liability of assessment are necessary for all professionals. However, it is found that those professionals prone to heavily rely on their own experiences and knowledge on decision making on risk assessment, which lack of a systematic approach and lack of ways to check the reliability of the decisions. This paper investigates the need for people involved in construction to take systematic and effective risk assessments for different trades. 14 common types of trades, accidents, and accident causes are explored, in addition to suitable risk assessment methods and criteria. A Risk Assessment Model (RAM) is then developed for assessing risk levels as various project stages with various work trades. A case study is used to prove the workability and reliability of the developed RAM in the practical industry. The developed RAM is found to be benefit for predicting high-risk construction activities and thus preventing accidents occurred based on a set of historical accident data. 相似文献

A new method for the oxidation of aromatic olefins and alkynes has been developed using inexpensive iron(III) chloride hexahydrate (FeCl3⋅6 H2O, 5 mol%) catalyst in combination with commercially available aqueous 70% tert‐butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP) as oxidant. The present system works well for aromatic alkenes and alkynes with both electron‐donating and electron‐withdrawing substituents being tolerated.
