This paper advances the field of externally linear–internally nonlinear (ELIN) filters by introducing a synthesis method that enables the design of high‐order class‐AB sinh filters by means of complementary metal–oxide semiconductor (CMOS) weak‐inversion sinh integrators comprising only one type of devices in their translinear loops. The proposed transistor‐level synthesis approach is demonstrated through the examples of (1) a biquadratic and (2) a fifth‐order filter, and their simulated performance is studied. The biquadratic filter achieves a dynamic range of 94 dB and has a tunable quality factor Q up to the value of 8, whereas its natural frequency can be tuned for four orders of magnitude. Its static power consumption amounts to 6.2 μW for Q = 1 and fo = 2 kHz. The fifth‐order Chebyshev sinh CMOS filter with a cut‐off frequency of 100 Hz, a pass band ripple of 1 dB, and a power consumption of ~300 nW is compared head‐to‐head with its pseudo‐differential class‐AB CMOS log domain counterpart. The sinh filter achieves similar or better signal‐to‐noise ratio (SNR) and signal‐to‐noise‐plus‐distortion ratio (SNDR) performances with half the capacitor area but at the expense of higher power consumption from the same power supply level. Neonates are at an increased risk of an infectious disease. This is consistent with an increased abundance of myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) compared with older children and adults. Using a murine model of neonatal bacterial sepsis, we demonstrate that MDSCs modulate their activity during an infection to enhance immune suppressive functions. A gene expression analysis shows that MDSCs increased NOS2, Arg-1 and IL-27p28 expression in vitro and in vivo in response to Escherichia coli O1:K1:H7 and this is regulated at the level of the gene expression. Changes in the effector gene expression are consistent with increased enzymatic activity and cytokine secretion. The neonatal MDSCs express toll-like receptor (TLR) 2, 4 and 5 capable of recognizing pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPS) on E. coli. However, a variable level of effector expression was achieved in response to LPS, peptidoglycan or flagellin. Individual bacterial PAMPs did not stimulate the expression of Arg-l and IL-27p28 equivalently to E. coli. However, the upregulation of NOS2 was achieved in response to LPS, peptidoglycan and flagella. The increased immune suppressive profile translated to an enhanced suppression of CD4+ T cell proliferation. Collectively, these findings increase our understanding of the dynamic nature of MDSC activity and suggest that these cells abundant in early life can acquire activity during an infection that suppresses protective immunity. 相似文献

This work falls into the category of linear cellular neural network (CNN) implementations. We detail the first investigative attempt on the CMOS analog VLSI implementation of a recently proposed network formalism, which introduces time‐derivative ‘diffusion’ between CNN cells for nonseparable spatiotemporal filtering applications—the temporal‐derivative CNNs (TDCNNs). The reported circuit consists of an array of Gm‐C filters arranged in a regular pattern across space. We show that the state–space coupling between the Gm‐C‐based array elements realizes stable and linear first‐order (temporal) TDCNN dynamics. The implementation is based on linearized operational transconductance amplifiers and Class‐AB current mirrors. Measured results from the investigative prototype chip that confirms the stability and linearity of the realized TDCNN are provided. The prototype chip has been built in the AMS 0.35 µm CMOS technology and occupies a total area of 12.6 mm sq, while consuming 1.2 µW per processing cell. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. 相似文献

This paper presents an evaluation of the seismic performance and retrofit of reinforced-concrete bridge columns with structural flares. Experimental and analytical studies were performed on four 40%-scale specimens. Two specimens represented the as-built columns, while the other two were retrofitted with steel jackets for shear capacity enhancement. The results indicate that some of the existing methods for evaluating the shear capacity of columns can be unconservative and could overestimate the shear capacity of the columns included in this study by 60%. It is also shown that by implementing proper detailing, steel jackets can be used to enhance the shear capacity and ductility of flared columns with no appreciable increase in the shear demand. 相似文献

Complex maxillofacial malformations continue to present challenges in analysis and correction beyond modern technology. The purpose of this paper is to present a virtual reality workbench for surgeons to perform virtual orthognathic surgical planning and soft-tissue prediction in three dimensions. A resulting surgical planning system, i.e., three-dimensional virtual reality surgical planning and soft-tissue prediction for orthognathic surgery, consists of four major stages: computed tomography (CT) data post-processing and reconstruction, three-dimensional (3-D) color facial soft-tissue model generation, virtual surgical planning and simulation, soft-tissue-change preoperative prediction. The surgical planning and simulation are based on a 3D CT reconstructed bone model, whereas the soft-tissue prediction is based on color texture-mapped and individualized facial soft-tissue model. Our approach is able to provide a quantitative osteotomy-simulated bone model and prediction of postoperative appearance with photorealistic quality. The prediction appearance can be visualized from any arbitrary viewing point using a low-cost personal computer-based system. Fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC)-encapsulated SiO2 core-shell particles with a nanoscale ZnO finishing layer have been synthesized for the first time as multifunctional “smart”
nanostructures. Detailed characterization studies confirmed the formation of an outer ZnO layer on the SiO2–FITC core. These ~200 nm sized particles showed promise toward cell imaging and cellular uptake studies using the bacterium
Escherichia coli and Jurkat cancer cells, respectively. The FITC encapsulated ZnO particles demonstrated excellent selectivity in preferentially
killing Jurkat cancer cells with minimal toxicity to normal primary immune cells (18% and 75% viability remaining, respectively,
after exposure to 60 μg/ml) and inhibited the growth of both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria at concentrations ≥250–500 μg/ml
(for Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, respectively). These results indicate that the novel FITC encapsulated multifunctional particles with nanoscale ZnO surface

To cope with the small sample size problem in the construction of Statistical Deformable Models (SDM), this paper proposes
two novel measures that quantify the similarity of the variability characteristics among deforming 3D meshes. These measures
are used as the basis of our proposed technique for partitioning a 3D mesh for the construction of piecewise SDM in a divide-and-conquer
strategy. Specifically, the surface variability information is extracted by performing a global principal component analysis
on the set of sample meshes. An iterative face clustering algorithm is developed for segmenting a mesh that favors grouping
triangular faces having similar variability characteristics into a same mesh component. We apply the proposed mesh segmentation
algorithm to the construction of piecewise SDM and evaluate the representational ability of the resulting piecewise SDM through
the reconstruction of unseen meshes. Experimental results show that our approach outperforms several state-of-the-art methods

The purpose of this study was to determine if a gander's distance from its mate's nest changed as a function of the goose's incubation period. The subjects were a captive flock of wild giant Canada geese (Branta canadensis maxima). Ganders' distance from their mates' nests was recorded daily at 4 randomly selected times. A daily mean was calculated from the 4 daily distance measurements. The results of this study indicated that the ganders' distance from their mates' nests remained constant over the incubation period but decreased significantly on the day that goslings hatched. To determine whether adult serum GH-binding protein (GHBP) is regulated by androgen, serum GHBP concentrations were compared between 20 normal and 18 hypogonadal men matched for age and body mass index, and the effect of im testosterone treatment (250 mg testosterone enanthate) on GHBP levels in the 18 hypogonadal men was studied. Nine of the hypogonadal subjects had coexistent GH deficiency. Serum GHBP concentration was measured by a ligand immunofunctional assay. The mean serum GHBP level in untreated hypogonadal men was not significantly different from that of normal men (0.98 +/- 0.15 vs. 1.17 +/- 0.16 nmol/L). The mean serum insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I) level was significantly lower in the hypogonadal men (132 +/- 22 vs. 206 +/- 17 ng/mL; P < 0.01). Basal testosterone (3.7 +/- 0.7 nmol/L) in hypogonadal men increased during treatment to a mean level of 29.1 +/- 2.8 nmol/L, which was not significantly higher than that in normal men (22.6 +/- 1.9 nmol/L). The mean serum GHBP level in hypogonadal men fell significantly during treatment to 0.60 +/- 0.11 nmol/L (P = 0.0003), whereas the serum IGF-I level rose significantly to 151 +/- 26 ng/mL (P < 0.04). The decrease in GHBP level was significant in both the GH-sufficient and GH-deficient subjects (P < 0.02 in both instances), whereas the increase in IGF-I level was significant in the GH-sufficient group (199 +/- 22 to 235 +/- 29 ng/mL; P < 0.04) but not in the GH-deficient group (53 +/- 7 to 55 +/- 5 ng/mL; P > 0.8). Thus, serum GHBP is normal in hypogonadal men but is reduced by testosterone treatment irrespective of endogenous GH-secretory status. It was concluded that the effect of testosterone on GHBP is pharmacological and occurs independent of GH mediation. 相似文献
