The coupling between two identical square dielectric waveguides with parallel axes has been studied for various configurations, in which one of the guides was arbitrarily rotated with respect to the other. In one case, the first guide was kept fixed while the second guide was rotated from 0deg; to 180deg;. It was found that the coupling coejcient was maximal when the inclination angle was 0deg; or 180deg; and vanished when it was 90deg;. In another case, one corner of the first guide faced one corner of the second guide. It was found that the coupling coejcient was less than half the maximal value obtained for the previous configuration. This study has a practical aspect; it proposes a possible way to select an appropriate coupling in order to satisfy a given engineering design. 相似文献

Pheromone trapping is an increasingly viable strategy to reduce invasive fish populations, largely due to the pheromones' function of evoking behavioral responses among conspecifics. Prior to attempting such population control techniques, the pheromones must be identified and their possible influences on non-target species addressed. The round goby (Neogobius melanostomus) is a species invasive to the Great Lakes region, and negatively impacts the ecosystem by interfering with local fish populations. At least two 5β-reduced 3α-hydroxyl steroids released by reproductive N. melanostomus (11-O-ETIO and 11-O-ETIO-3s) evoke olfactory sensory responses from the olfactory epithelium of conspecifics, and water conditioned by reproductive males (containing these steroids) attracts female round gobies. In this study, we examined whether these putative pheromones, along with simultaneously-released 11-O-ETIO-17s, stimulate olfactory sensory responses from alternative fish species sharing the same ecosystem as N. melanostomus in the Great Lakes region. Rock bass (Ambloplites rupestris), bluegill sunfish (Lepomis macrochirus), pumpkinseed sunfish (Lepomis gibbosus), smallmouth bass (Micropterus dolomieu), and yellow perch (Perca flavescens) were the targets of an electro-olfactogram experiment designed to record responses to odors. When compared to round goby responses from previous studies, amino acids and the bile acid consistently elicited electro-olfactogram responses across all species, but only round gobies showed a response to the putative pheromones. This study supports the concept of conducting a pheromone trapping trial in the field without adversely affecting the olfactory responses of non-target fish in the area. 相似文献

An improved particle swarm optimizer using the notion of chaos and species is proposed for solving a template matching problem which is formulated as a multimodal optimization problem. Template matching is one of the image comparison techniques. This technique is widely applied to determine the existence, location and alignment of a component within a captured image in the printed circuit board (PCB) industry where 100% quality assurance is always required. In this research, an efficient auto detection method using a multiple templates matching technique for PCB components detection is described. The new approach using chaotic species based particle swarm optimization (SPSO) is applied to the multi-template matching (MTM) process. To test its performance, the proposed Chaotic SPSO based MTM algorithm is compared with other approaches by using real captured PCB images. The Chaotic SPSO based MTM method is proven to be superior to other methods in both efficiency and effectiveness. 相似文献

This paper describes an improved genetic algorithm (GA) using the notion of species in order to solve an embroidery inspection problem. This inspection problem is actually a multiple template matching problem which can be formulated as a multimodal optimization problem. In many cases, the run time of the multiple template matching problem is dominated by repeating the similarity calculations and moving the templates over the source image. To cope with this problem, the proposed species based genetic algorithm (SbGA) is capable to determine its neighborhood best values for solving multimodal optimization problems. The SbGA has been statistically tested and compared with other genetic algorithms on a number of benchmark functions. After proving its effectiveness, it is integrated with multi-template matching method, namely SbGA–MTM method to solve the embroidery inspection problem. Furthermore, the notion of bounded partial correlation (BPC) is also adopted as an acceleration strategy, which enhances the overall efficiency. Experimental results indicate that the SbGA–MTM method is proven to solve the inspection problem efficiently and effectively. With the proposed method, the embroidered patterns can be identified and checked automatically. 相似文献

Parallel computing is an integral part of many scientific disciplines. In this paper, we discuss issues and difficulties arising
when a state-of-the-art parallel linear solver is applied to topology optimization problems. Within the topology optimization
framework, we cannot readjust domain decomposition to align with material decomposition, which leads to the deterioration
of performance of the substructuring solver. We illustrate the difficulties with detailed condition number estimates and numerical
studies. We also report the practical performances of finite element tearing and interconnection/dual–primal solver for topology
optimization problems and our attempts to improve it by applying additional scaling and/or preconditioning strategies. The
performance of the method is finally illustrated with large-scale topology optimization problems coming from different optimal
design fields: compliance minimization, design of compliant mechanisms, and design of elastic surface wave-guides.

Six species of phytoplankton,Pseudoisochrysis paradoxa, Isochrysis galbana, Monochrysis lutheri, Platymonas suecica, Thalassiosira fluviatilis and aChaetoceros species, were cultured in the laboratory and their sterol contents analyzed utilizing digitonin precipitation, thin layer
and gas chromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. A total of 7 sterols were found in phytoplankton. The occurrence
of these sterols, cholest-5-en-3β-ol, cholest-5,22-dien-3β-ol, 24-methylcholesta-5,24(28)-dien-3β-ol, 24-methylcholest-5-en-3β-ol,
24-methylcholesta-5,22-dien-3β-ol, 24-ethylcholest-5-en-3β-ol and 24-ethylcholest-5,22-dien-3β-ol, differed significantly
among the various phytoplankton species. Cultures ofP. paradoxa biosynthesized both of the sterols found in this species when incubated in the presence of14C- or3H-mevalonic acid for 0.5–9 days. These sterols were cholesterol and 24-methylcholesta-5,22-dien-3β-ol. Since 5 of the sterols
found in the phytoplankton commonly occur in mollusks which feed on phytoplankton, it is likely that at least some of the
tissue sterols in mollusks are of dietary origin.

The behavior of wall-bound drops and bubbles is fundamental to many natural and industrial processes. Key characteristics
of such capillary systems include interface shape and stability for a variety of gravity levels and orientations. Significant
solutions are in hand for axisymmetric pendent drops for a variety of uniform boundary conditions along the contact line with
gravity acting normal to a planar wall. The special case of a wall-bound drop or bubble that is also pinned at an edge (i.e.
a ‘wall-edge-bound’ drop) is considered here where numerical solutions are obtained for interface shape and stability as functions
of drop volume, contact angle, fluid properties, and uniform gravity vector. For a semi-infinite zero-thickness planar wall
(plate), a critical contact angle is identified below which wall-edge-bound drops are always stable. The critical contact
angle is computed as a function of the gravity vector. The numerical procedure, which makes no account for contact angle hysteresis,
predicts that such wall-edge-bound drops are unconditionally unstable for any gravity field with a component that is tangent
to the wall while inwardly normal to the edge. Select experiments are conducted that support the conclusions drawn from the

Recently, there has been an increasing concern from the evolutionary computation community on dynamic optimization problems
since many real-world optimization problems are dynamic. This paper investigates a particle swarm optimization (PSO) based
memetic algorithm that hybridizes PSO with a local search technique for dynamic optimization problems. Within the framework
of the proposed algorithm, a local version of PSO with a ring-shape topology structure is used as the global search operator
and a fuzzy cognition local search method is proposed as the local search technique. In addition, a self-organized random
immigrants scheme is extended into our proposed algorithm in order to further enhance its exploration capacity for new peaks
in the search space. Experimental study over the moving peaks benchmark problem shows that the proposed PSO-based memetic
algorithm is robust and adaptable in dynamic environments. 相似文献
