A method for calibrating quartz crystal thickness monitors is described, which makes use of 20 nm platinum sputtered colloidal gold particles. The actual thickness is measured on transmission electron micrographs of gold particles protruding from the edge of fractured, rolled up, carbon films. In the range up to ~10 nm, the measured thickness for platinum films is ~17% larger than the figures calculated from mass thickness equations.  相似文献

Inter‐organizational collaboration is increasingly a topic for studies into accidents and disasters as well as exercises. In this study, which is based on interviews with first responders, we compared perceived collaboration during an exercise with crisis work. The three organizations included in this study—fire department, police and ambulance services—perceived the investigated tunnel exercise completely different, ranging from harmonious interaction to power struggles between commanding officers, fragmented decision‐making and ambiguity. When comparing the exercise with an incident, we found that collaboration was more evident during incidents than in exercises. However, collaboration exercises appear to improve inter‐organizational collaboration by stimulating informal structures, practicing listening and delegating, getting to know one another and learning a common language.  相似文献

We present a solution to the problem of multiple vehicle cooperative path following (CPF) that takes explicitly into account vehicle input constraints, the topology of the intervehicle communication network, and time‐varying communication delays. The objective is to steer a group of vehicles along given spatial paths, at speeds that may be path dependent, while holding a feasible geometric formation. The solution involves decoupling the original CPF problem into two subproblems: (i) single path following of input‐constrained vehicles and (ii) coordination of an input‐constrained multiagent system. The first is solved by adopting a sampled‐data model predictive control scheme, whereas the latter is tackled using a novel distributed control law with an event‐triggered communication (ETC) mechanism. The proposed strategy yields a closed‐loop CPF system that is input‐to‐state‐stable with respect to the system's state (consisting of the path following error of all vehicles and their coordination errors) and the system's input, which includes triggering thresholds for ETC communications and communication delays. Furthermore, with the proposed ETC mechanism, the number of communications among the vehicles are significantly reduced. Simulation examples of multiple autonomous vehicles executing CPF maneuvers in 2D under different communication scenarios illustrate the efficacy of the CPF strategy proposed.  相似文献

This paper addresses the problem of fault‐tolerant control allocation for input affine nonlinear systems. The proposed scheme is divided in three main tasks: fault detection and estimation using a nonlinear observer, fault isolation through a bank of unknown input observers with a resetting policy to reduce the effects of nonlinearities and control reconfiguration based on reduced order allocation. Analytical results regarding the isolability and reconfigurability of actuator faults are derived and a simulation example is used to illustrate the the proposed fault tolerant control methodology.  相似文献

It is well known that the time-varying Kalman Filter (KF) is globally exponentially stable and optimal in the sense of minimum variance under some conditions. However, nonlinear approximations such as the extended KF linearises the system about the estimated state trajectories, leading in general to loss of both global stability and optimality. Nonlinear observers tend to have strong, often global, stability properties. They are, however, often designed without optimality objectives considering the presence of unknown measurement errors and process disturbances. We study the cascade of a global nonlinear observer with the linearised KF, where the estimate from the nonlinear observer is an exogenous signal only used for generating a linearised model to the KF. It is shown that the two-stage nonlinear estimator inherits the global stability property of the nonlinear observer, and simulations indicate that local optimality properties similar to a perfectly linearised KF can be achieved. This two-stage estimator is called an eXogeneous KF (XKF).  相似文献

There is a significant need to provide nationwide consistent information for land managers and scientists to assist with property planning, vegetation monitoring applications, risk assessment, and conservation activities at an appropriate spatial scale. We created maps of woody vegetation cover of Australia using a consistent method applied across the continent, and made them accessible. We classified pixels as woody or not woody, quantified their foliage projective cover, and classed them as forest or other wooded lands based on their cover density. The maps provide, for the first time, cover density estimates of Australian forests and other wooded lands with the spatial detail required for local-scale studies. The maps were created by linking field data, collected by a network of collaborators across the continent, to a time series of Landsat-5 TM and Landsat-7 ETM+ images for the period 2000–2010. The fractions of green vegetation cover, non-green vegetation cover, and bare ground were calculated for each pixel using a previously developed spectral unmixing approach. Time series statistics, for the green vegetation cover, were used to classify each pixel as either woody or not using a random forest classifier. An estimate of woody foliage projective cover was made by calibration with field measurements, and woody pixels classified as forest where the foliage cover was at least 0.1. Validation of the foliage projective cover with field measurements gave a coefficient of determination, R2,of 0.918 and root mean square error of 0.070. The user’s and producer’s accuracies for areas mapped as forest were high at 92.2% and 95.9%, respectively. The user’s and producers’s accuracies were lower for other wooded lands at 75.7% and 61.3%, respectively. Further research into methods to better separate areas with sparse woody vegetation from those without woody vegetation is needed. The maps provide information that will assist in gaining a better understanding of our natural environment. Applications range from the continental-scale activity of estimating national carbon stocks, to the local scale activities of assessing habitat suitability and property planning.  相似文献

Small droplets appearing on the surface of alkali-silica reactive aggregates and on gel in cracks and air voids have been observed during microscopy of polished thin sections. On aggregates, the droplets are generally only observed if quartz is the major component. The location of the droplets in these aggregates are on and along the grain boundaries of quartz subgrains. The composition of droplets located on quartz and on “crystalline gel” has been analysed by SEM. The droplets on quartz consist mainly of sodium and minor potassium. The droplets on “crystalline gel” are rich in both sodium and potassium. Calcium is generally absent and silica low in all types of droplets. It is suggested that the droplets represent the liquid phase in equilibrium with the reaction product formed by alkali-silica reaction.  相似文献

Knowledge of contaminant levels in Greenland biota has increased substantially in recent years, particularly for persistent organic pollutants. This paper reviews and updates knowledge of spatial and temporal trends of Cd, Hg and organochlorines (PCBs, DDTs, HCHs, HCB and chlordane-related compounds) in Greenland terrestrial, freshwater and marine biota. The most comprehensive studies of spatial trends of Cd and Hg in the terrestrial ecosystem concern lichens, with relatively complete coverage, and caribou (Rangifer tarandus), with coverage mainly in different regions of central West Greenland and Southwest Greenland. The Arctic char (Salvelinus alpinus) is the only freshwater organism for which studies of spatial trends of Hg levels have been completed. Information on spatial trends of Cd and Hg in the marine environment is available from studies of fish, seabirds, ringed seals (Phoca hispida) and polar bears (Ursus maritimus). Geographical patterns of Cd and Hg in Greenland biota were not always consistent among different species or different studies. In landlocked Arctic char the concentrations of Hg decreased from south to north. In marine animals levels of Hg tended to be higher in East Greenland than in West Greenland and Cd levels were highest in biota from Disko Island in central West Greenland. The observed regional differences are difficult to explain but in most cases the causes appear to be natural rather than anthropogenic. Only a few time series covering the last 20 years exist for Cd and Hg. The one time series indicating a temporal change is for ringed seals in Northwest Greenland, which shows an increasing trend of Hg and a decreasing trend of Cd since 1984. Whether the changes reflect anthropogenic inputs, seal behaviour or other environmental factors is unknown. The most significant new insights have concerned organochlorines. In general, levels of these compounds were very low in terrestrial biota compared to marine species. Concentrations in landlocked Arctic char were highest in Southeast Greenland and lowest in Northwest and Northeast Greenland. Marine species from East Greenland had consistently higher levels of SigmaPCB, SigmaDDT and SigmaHCH than marine species from West Greenland. Very few data exist to evaluate temporal changes of organochlorine levels in Greenland biota, and this is the most significant knowledge gap at present. The most pronounced change observed was a decrease of 78% in SigmaPCB levels in polar bears from East Greenland from 1990 to 2000. Levels of SigmaHCH in shorthorn sculpins (Myoxocephalus scorpius) and seals from both central West Greenland and central East Greenland appear to have decreased since 1994. Increasing trends of SigmaDDT from 1994 until now were found in both sexes of seals as well as in male sculpins from central West Greenland.  相似文献

The potent toxin microcystin is frequently released during cyanobacterial blooms in eutrophic waters and may impose a risk to human health, when surface water is used for drinking water. For removal of microcystin in surface waters, infiltration through sediment is commonly used. In the present study, mineralization of 14C-labelled microcystin (accumulation of 14CO(2)) and concentration changes (protein phosphatase inhibition assay) demonstrated that indigenous microorganisms in the sediment of a water recharge facility were capable of degrading microcystin. At oxic or microaerophilic (<2% O(2)) conditions, microcystin added to sediment slurries at 70 microg l(-1) was reduced to <20 microg l(-1) in 1-2 weeks, and less than 3 microg l(-1) after 7 weeks. At anoxic conditions (<0.3% O(2)) and with addition of nitrate, the degradation was significantly stimulated, reducing microcystin from 100 to <20 microg l(-1) within 1 day. The simultaneous production of N(2)O in the samples suggests that the microcystin degradation was coupled to dissimilative nitrate reduction (denitrification). Since aquifers and sediments beneath drinking water reservoirs often are anoxic, nitrate respiration may be an important process in removal and detoxification of microcystin.  相似文献

Lead, cadmium, mercury and selenium levels in the Greenland marine environment from the first phase of the AMAP are presented. Samples were collected in 1994-1995 covering four widely separated regions in Greenland. Samples included sediments, soft tissue of blue mussel; and liver of polar cod, shorthorn sculpin, glaucous gull, Iceland gull and ringed seal. Concentrations of lead were found to increase with the size of blue mussel, but not with the age of gulls or ringed seal. Both cadmium and mercury concentrations were found to increase with the size/age of all species. Selenium concentrations decreased with increasing size of blue mussel, but increased with the age of gulls and ringed seal. Element levels found are within the range of those found in previous studies in Greenland. Relative to global background levels, lead levels must be considered low, whereas levels of cadmium, mercury and selenium in Greenland marine biota are high. Significant differences in element levels in sediments and biota among regions in Greenland were seen in several cases. There was a tendency for the highest lead and mercury concentrations to be found in east Greenland, whereas the highest cadmium concentrations were found in central west Greenland. However, the geographical differences among the media did not show a consistent pattern.  相似文献
