The analysis and synthesis of conformal printed antennas on conical surfaces are investigated. The theoretical model is based on the cavity model and the concept of dynamic permittivity to take into account the thickness and the fringing field effects. The originality comes from the use of a computer algebra system to generate the polynomial expression of the zeros of characteristic equations and the analytical relation between the half-angle of the cone and the order of the associated Legendre functions. Fast and accurate expressions for the resonance frequency are given for a rectangular radiating element operating in TM10 and TM01 modes. This model is easily included in a CAD package. Vaccinial epithelial keratitis was produced in rabbits. When the therapeutic effect of vidarabine on the experimentally-induced disease was evaluated and compared to the effect of idoxuridine, vidarabine was found to be highly effective, substantially more effective than idoxuridine, and nontoxic to the eye.  相似文献

Implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) implantation is rapidly becoming accepted as primary therapy for malignant ventricular arrhythmias. Many patients undergoing ICD implantation are on concomitant antiarrhythmic drugs to decrease shock frequency, slow tachycardia rate, and suppress supraventricular arrhythmias. Amiodarone is a potent antiarrhythmic agent that is also frequently used in the treatment of patients with refractory ventricular arrhythmias. Ten to forty percent of patients undergoing ICD implantation will also be taking amiodarone. It has been reported to cause pulmonary toxicity in about 5% of patients per year. Acute amiodarone toxicity presenting as adult respiratory distress syndrome has been reported much less frequently. Although perioperative morbidity due to amiodarone has been described, the risk, predictability, and consequences of acute pulmonary toxicity from amiodarone in patients undergoing ICD implantation have not been previously described. We reviewed the records of 99 consecutive patients undergoing ICD implantation at our institution from October 1987 to April 1992. Thirty-nine patients were taking 480 +/- 230 mg of amiodarone (median 400 mg, lower 20th percentile 400 mg, upper 80th percentile 800 mg) for 291 +/- 554 days prior to ICD implantation. Ten patients taking amiodarone developed acute pulmonary toxicity clinically manifesting as diffuse pulmonary infiltrates on chest radiography and adult respiratory distress syndrome with hypoxia (arterial pO2 < 60 mmHg) without evidence of pneumonia or elevated pulmonary capillary wedge pressure (PCW < or = 15 mmHg). To gain insight into the factors controlling the maintenance or loss of T cell self tolerance we produced beef insulin (BI)-transgenic BALB/c mice. Transgenic mice express BI under control of the human insulin promoter and secrete physiological amounts of beef insulin. Although these mice are tolerant to BI, as evidenced by the lack of insulin-specific IgG antibody production following intraperitoneal immunization, tolerance is not complete. Footpad immunization results in a weak antigen-specific T cell proliferative response, indicating the presence of self-reactive BI-specific T cell in the periphery. These T cells are functional in vivo, providing support for IgG1, IgG2a, and IgG2b BI-specific antibody production, but require higher higher concentrations of antigen than nontransgenic T cells (both in vivo and following recall responses in vitro) to become activated. In vitro, BI-specific T cell proliferation in BI-transgenic mice can be largely restored by addition of interleukin-2, indicating that a significant component of T cell tolerance is mediated by anergy. To characterize the autoreactive T cells that become activated when tolerance is broken, BI-specific T cell hybridomas were generated from transgenic mice and compared to a panel of hybridomas previously derived from nontransgenic BALB/c mice. The majority of BI-transgenic hybridomas recognized the immunodominant A1-14 beef insulin peptide but with lower avidity than BALB/c hybridomas. Consistent with this, none of the dominant T cell receptor rearrangements found in the BALB/c BI-specific T cell receptor repertoire were found in the transgenic hybridomas. These results indicate that, despite evidence for clonal inactivation of many BI-specific T cells in BI-transgenic mice, loss of tolerance results from activation of low-affinity antigen-specific T cells that appear to have escaped this process.  相似文献

PURPOSE: To determine whether the MR findings of callosal dysgenesis suggest that the partially formed corpus callosum in humans is the result of arrested growth or delayed continued development. METHODS: The MR scans of 25 patients with callosal dysgenesis were reviewed to determine whether the observed corpus callosum corresponded to the form and position of a portion of a normal corpus callosum, as suggested by a theory of arrested growth. RESULTS: In 10 of the 25 cases, the partially formed corpus callosum corresponded to a portion of a normal corpus callosum. In the remaining 15 cases, the partially formed corpus callosum was located posterior to the expected location of a normal genu and inferior to the expected location of a normal body. CONCLUSIONS: Corpus callosum dysgenesis in humans may be caused by arrested growth in some cases; in other cases it is most likely caused by delayed continued development that attempts to compensate for earlier abnormalities in the evolution of midline structures.  相似文献

This paper presents a novel class of preconditioners for the iterative solution of the sequence of symmetric positive‐definite linear systems arising from the numerical discretization of transient parabolic and self‐adjoint partial differential equations. The preconditioners are obtained by nesting appropriate projections of reduced‐order models into the classical iteration of the preconditioned conjugate gradient (PCG). The main idea is to employ the reduced‐order solver to project the residual associated with the conjugate gradient iterations onto the space spanned by the reduced bases. This approach is particularly appealing for transient systems where the full‐model solution has to be computed at each time step. In these cases, the natural reduced space is the one generated by full‐model solutions at previous time steps. When increasing the size of the projection space, the proposed methodology highly reduces the system conditioning number and the number of PCG iterations at every time step. The cost of the application of the preconditioner linearly increases with the size of the projection basis, and a trade‐off must be found to effectively reduce the PCG computational cost. The quality and efficiency of the proposed approach is finally tested in the solution of groundwater flow models. © 2016 The Authors. We developed mice deficient in protease-activated receptor-2 (PAR-2) or PAR-1 to explore the pathophysiological functions of these receptors. In this report, we evaluated mean arterial pressure and heart rate (HR) changes in response to PAR-1 or PAR-2 activation in anesthetized wild-type (WT), PAR-1-deficient (PAR-1(-/-)), and PAR-2-deficient (PAR-2(-/-)) mice. In WT mice, TFLLRNPNDK, a PAR-1 selective activating peptide, caused hypotension and HR decreases at 1 micromol/kg. TFLLRNPNDK also caused secondary hypertension following L-NAME pretreatment. These responses were absent in PAR-1(-/-) mice. In WT mice, SLIGRL, a PAR-2 selective activating peptide, caused hypotension without changing HR at 0.3 micromol/kg. SLIGRL did not induce hypertension following Nomega-nitrol-arginine-methyl ester-HCl (L-NAME). The response to SLIGRL was absent in PAR-2(-/-) mice. SFLLRN, a nonselective receptor activating peptide caused hypotension and HR decreases in WT mice at 0.3 micromol/kg, as well as secondary hypertension following L-NAME. SFLLRN still induced hypotension in PAR-1(-/-) mice, but HR decrease and secondary hypertension following L-NAME were absent. The hypotensive and bradycardic responses to SFLLRN and TFLLRNPNDK in PAR-2(-/-) mice were accentuated compared with WT mice. By using mouse strains deficient in either PAR-1 or PAR-2, we confirmed the in vivo specificity of TFLLRNPNDK and SLIGRL as respective activating peptides for PAR-1 and PAR-2, and the distinct hemodynamic responses mediated by activation of PAR-1 or PAR-2. Moreover, the accentuated response to PAR-1 activation in PAR-2-deficient mice suggests a compensatory response and potential receptor cross-talk.  相似文献

The hybrid direct carbon fuel cell is a direct carbon fuel cell concept that combines a solid oxide fuel cell with a molten carbonate fuel cell electrode. This offers efficient conversion of coal or biomass derived carbons to electricity. In this study we aim to improve the electrical performance of this cell by using gadolinia doped ceria (GDC) as either a protection layer over a YSZ electrolyte or as the electrolyte itself. In our study, the electrical performance of several tubular cell geometries were investigated using impedance spectroscopy both with and without gas flows of carbon dioxide or nitrogen. Integrity of microstructure including possible layer delamination effects were investigated by SEM. Promising values of power and resistance were observed using a GDC material as electrolyte at intermediate temperature reducing the operation temperature compared to YSZ, doubling the power of each cell.  相似文献
