The alarming raise of multi-drug resistance among human microbial pathogens makes the development of novel therapeutics a priority task. In contrast to conventional antibiotics, antimicrobial peptides (AMPs), besides evoking a broad spectrum of activity against microorganisms, could offer additional benefits, such as the ability to neutralize toxins, modulate inflammatory response, eradicate bacterial and fungal biofilms or prevent their development. The latter properties are of special interest, as most antibiotics available on the market have limited ability to diffuse through rigid structures of biofilms. Lipidation of AMPs is considered as an effective approach for enhancement of their antimicrobial potential and in vivo stability; however, it could also have undesired impact on selectivity, solubility or the aggregation state of the modified peptides. In the present work, we describe the results of structural modifications of compounds designed based on cationic antimicrobial peptides DK5 and CAR-PEG-DK5, derivatized at their N-terminal part with fatty acids with different lengths of carbon chain. The proposed modifications substantially improved antimicrobial properties of the final compounds and their effectiveness in inhibition of biofilm development as well as eradication of pre-formed 24 h old biofilms of Candida albicans and Staphylococcus aureus. The most active compounds (C5-DK5, C12-DK5 and C12-CAR-PEG-DK5) were also potent against multi-drug resistant Staphylococcus aureus USA300 strain and clinical isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Both experimental and in silico methods revealed strong correlation between the length of fatty acid attached to the peptides and their final membranolytic properties, tendency to self-assemble and cytotoxicity.  相似文献

Highly transparent X2O3 sesquioxide ceramics were obtained from a solid solution of five different oxides (Lu2O3, Y2O3, Yb2O3, Gd2O3, and Dy2O3), mixed in an equal molar ratio according to the principle of high-entropy. The fabricated (Lu, Y, Yb, Gd, Dy)2O3 ceramics achieved 99.97 % of the relative density and exhibited a high degree of optical transparency with the in-line transmittance of almost 80 % in the visible wavelength range. Emissions of Gd3+ (6PJ8S7/2 at 312 nm), Dy3+ (4F9/26H15/2 at 492 nm and 4F9/26H13/2 at 572 nm), and Yb3+ (2F5/22F7/2 at 1031 nm) suggested a potential application of the high-entropy ceramics as multi-wavelength emission phosphor transparent ceramics. High-entropy ceramics also exhibited lower specific heat and thermal conductivity compared to single-element sesquioxide ceramics. This work demonstrated that highly transparent oxide ceramics, with complex chemical compositions and good optical properties, could be obtained using the high-entropy principle.  相似文献

In the work presented is a new approach to modelling the bubbly flow in the boundary layer. The approach is based on summation of dissipation energy coming from the shearing turbulent flow in the absence of bubbles and the dissipation contribution from the presence of bubbles. As a result we obtain the dissipation of equivalent single phase turbulent flow. The model has been solved using the method of asymptotic correction to provide an explicit differential equation describing the velocity profile. That can be solved with the assumption of constant void fraction distribution to yield the analytical velocity profile. Alternatively, author has developed his own model of lateral void migration, which is distinct from other models by virtue of presence of another rotational velocity. Velocity distributions calculated using the new model have been compared against the experimental data of turbulent bubble flows with small void fraction. A good consistency between calculations performed using a new model and available experimental data has been obtained. Additionally, a solution of the temperature field is also given. In the case of a constant void fraction distribution analytical distribution of the Nusselt number is given or the set of differential equations needs to be solved.  相似文献

Silicon carbonitride (a-Si:N:C) films produced by remote plasma chemical vapor deposition (RP-CVD) were investigated. Tetramethyldisilazane as a single-source precursor and (H2+N2) upstream gas mixture for plasma generation were used. The influence of the upstream gas composition on the structure, density, mechanical and tribological properties of the films deposited on p-type Si (001) wafers (both heated—T s =300°C and unheated—T s =30°C) are reported. The H2 RP-CVD process was found to result in the formation of outstanding low friction (0.04) and high hardness (H=27-31 GPa) a-Si:N:C films exhibiting promisingly high H/E values.  相似文献

Given a simple graph G, we consider the node search problem with inert fugitive. We are interested in minimizing the maximum vertex occupation time, i.e. the maximum number of steps in which a vertex is occupied by a searcher during a search of G. We prove that a search program which does not allow a recontamination may not find an optimal solution to this problem. Moreover, the difference between the minimum maximum vertex occupation time computed by a monotone search program and a program without such a restriction may be arbitrarily large.  相似文献

This paper abstracts the problem of network nodes discovering one another in a network of unknown size using all-to-all gossip. The problem is studied in terms of evolving directed graphs where each vertex represents a participating node and each edge represents one node’s knowledge about another. Ideally, such a graph has diameter one, i.e., each node knows all others. Nodes share their knowledge by sending gossip messages. Gossip among the nodes allows them to discover one another, decreasing the diameter of the graph. Here this problem is considered in several synchronous settings under different assumptions about the ability of the participating nodes to communicate. Specifically, the following aspects of communication are considered: (1) the ability of the nodes to multicast gossip messages, and (2) the size of the messages. The results describe the lower and upper bounds on the number of synchronous rounds required for the participants to discover each other. A particular question of interest is: if the network size is unknown, how does a node know that it has discovered all other nodes? Given a weakly-connected graph describing the initial knowledge of the nodes, every node in our algorithm can stop the discovery process knowing that there are no unknown nodes—this is done without any prior knowledge of the total number of nodes participating in the computation.  相似文献

To our knowledge, the present study is the first investigation by liquid-phase calorimetry of the mechanism of hydrogen generation by hydrolysis of sodium borohydride catalyzed by Co2B nanoparticles generated in situ. The differential reaction calorimeter was coupled with a volumetric hydrogen measurement, allowing a simultaneous thermodynamic and kinetic study of the reaction. At the end of the reaction, the catalyst was characterized ex situ by TEM, XRD, magnetism, N2 adsorption, TGA–DTA, and the liquid hydrolysis products were analyzed by Wet-STEM and 11B-NMR. The in situ preparation method made it possible to form nanoparticles (<12 nm) of Co2B which are the active phase for the hydrolysis reaction. In semi-batch conditions, the Co2B catalyst formed in situ is subsequently reduced by each borohydride addition and oxidized at the end of the hydrolysis reaction by OH in the presence of metaborate. A coating of the nanoparticles has been observed by calorimetry and physico-chemical characterization, corresponding to the formation of a 2–3 nm layer of cobalt oxide or hydroxide species.  相似文献

In this study, the efficiency of wire electrical discharge machining of hard-to-machine materials was investigated experimentally. Uncoated brass wire, 0.25 mm diameter, zinc oxide coated brass wire and brass CuZn20 coated brass CuZn50 wire were utilized in the conducted research. The following variables were chosen as important WEDM parameters: discharge time ton, average working voltage U. The following properties of machined materials, such as: melting point Tt, electrical conductivity σ, thermal conductivity K, thermal expansion coefficient k, density ρ, heat capacity cp, were selected to develop the semi-empirical model of volumetric efficiency of WEDM. The variation of the WEDM efficiency in cutting different materials and applying different wire electrodes and different process parameters was modelled semi-empirically by employing dimensional analysis.  相似文献

Meat is an excellent source of protein with a good balance of amino acids. It is also rich in several minerals, vitamins and bioactive compounds, which play important roles in metabolism and are easily assimilated from meat compared with other foods. The nutritional value of meat is one of the factors that influence consumer acceptance. However, it can be significantly reduced during processing. Moreover, some operations, such as curing, smoking or fermentation, used for processing can lead to the formation of harmful components in meat, and hence, nutritionists associate high consumption of processed meat with an increased risk of several diseases such as cardiovascular disorders and cancers. This review deals with the distinctive aspects of the technological strategies that can be used to improve the nutritional value of meat products, including the incorporation of bioactive components, reduction or elimination of harmful components (e.g. nitrite/nitrate, fat) and alternative technologies (ultrasound).  相似文献
