Abstract— Carbon nanotubes have quickly emerged over the last several years as a potential candidate material to replace metal oxides in devices which require transparent and conductive electrodes. Typically, these materials are coated onto substrates such as PET and PEN for flexible electrodes and glass for rigid electrodes. Recently, there has been interest in more durable and lightweight substrates to replace glass, one such substrate being polycarbonate. Sputter coating of indium tin oxide onto polycarbonate leads to low conductivity and inconsistent results, due to out‐gassing and materials mismatch issues. In this work, it is shown that direct coating of carbon nanotubes onto polycarbonate leads to high‐performance films with facile manufacturing.  相似文献

Patents provide a wealth of information about design concepts, their physical realization, and their relationship to prior designs in the form of citations. Patents can provide useful input for several goals of next-generation computer-aided design (CAD) systems, yet more efficient tools are needed to facilitate patent search and ranking. In this paper, a novel framework is presented and implemented for classifying patents according to level of invention (LOI) as defined in the theory of inventive problem solving (TRIZ). Level of invention characterizes the creativity of a design concept based on the resolution of a design conflict and the disciplines used in resolving the conflict. The assessment of LOI for a series of patents provides a useful input for screening and ranking patents in databases to identify high-impact patents. However, the manual effort required for assigning LOI to each patent is laborious and time-consuming. In this paper, a novel method that combines text mining, natural language processing, creation of knowledge-transfer metrics, and application of machine learning approaches is presented and implemented for classifying patents according to LOI. Two case studies are presented in which LOI data is compiled for patents: dynamic magnetic information storage or retrieval using Giant Magnetoresistive (GMR) or Colossal Magnetoresistive (CMR) sensors formed of multiple thin films (USPC 360/324) and arbitration for access to a channel (USPC 370/462). The peak performance in 5-fold stratified cross-validation was found to be 73.38% in the first case study and 77.12% for the second.  相似文献

As received and HCl treated Clinoptilolite (C)‐ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) composites were prepared via the melt‐mixing technique, and extruded through a single‐screw extruder to obtain composite strips with an average thickness of 0.5 mm. The films were then characterized for their morphological, structural, thermal, and mechanical properties. Optical micrographs show that at higher C loading, the particles form large agglomerates, resulting in the formation of voids on the surface of the films. With increasing zeolite loading, the films become brittle, resulting in reduced Young's modulus. Acid treatment of the C tends to affect the crystal structure of the zeolite, resulting in poor tensile properties of the HCl‐treated zeolite‐filled EVA films. Addition of the zeolite also increased the crystallinity of the structure, acting as a nucleating agent in the EVA crystallization. Modeling of the tensile yield data with Pukanszky model indicate that there is poor interfacial adhesion between the polymer matrix and the filler particles. Thermal characterization studies showed that addition of the zeolites retarded the onset degradation temperature of EVA. However, degradation temperatures including Tmax and the final decomposed temperature were increased, suggesting improved thermal stability due to reduced inter‐chain mobility in the composite materials as a result of increased zeolite loading. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two copper-binding compounds/cofactors (CBCs) were isolated from the spent media of both the wild type and a constitutive soluble methane monooxygenase (sMMOC) mutant, PP319 (P. A. Phelps et al., Appl. Environ. Microbiol. 58:3701-3708, 1992), of Methylosinus trichosporium OB3b. Both CBCs are small polypeptides with molecular masses of 1,218 and 779 Da for CBC-L1 and CBC-L2, respectively. The amino acid sequence of CBC-L1 is S?MYPGS?M, and that of CBC-L2 is SPMP?S. Copper-free CBCs showed absorption maxima at 204, 275, 333, and 356 with shoulders at 222 and 400 nm. Copper-containing CBCs showed a broad absorption maximum at 245 nm. The low-temperature electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectra of copper-containing CBC-L1 showed the presence of a copper center with an EPR splitting constant between those of type 1 and type 2 copper centers (g = 2.087, g = 2.42 G, A = 128 G). The EPR spectrum of CBC-L2 was more complex and showed two spectrally distinct copper centers. One signal can be attributed to a type 2 Cu2+ center (g = 2.073, g = 2.324 G, A = 144 G) which could be saturated at higher powers, while the second shows a broad, nearly isotropic signal near g = 2.063. In wild-type strains, the concentrations of CBCs in the spent media were highest in cells expressing the pMMO and stressed for copper. In contrast to wild-type strains, high concentrations of CBCs were observed in the extracellular fraction of the sMMOC mutants PP319 and PP359 regardless of the copper concentration in the culture medium.  相似文献

The authors report 4 experiments that examined color grouping and negative carryover effects in preview search via a probe detection task (J. J. Braithwaite, G. W. Humphreys, & J. Hodsoll, 2003). In Experiment 1, there was evidence of a negative color carryover from the preview to new items, using both search and probe detection measures. There was also a negative bias against probes on old items that carried the majority color in the preview. With a short preview duration (150 ms) carryover effects to new items were greatly reduced, but probe detection remained biased against the majority color in the old items. Experiments 2 and 4 showed that the color bias effects on old items could be reduced when these items had to be prioritized relative to being ignored. Experiment 3 tested and rejected the idea that variations in the probability of whether minority or majority colors were probed were crucial. These results show that the time course of color carryover effects can be separated from effects of early color grouping in the preview display: Color grouping is fast, and inhibitory color carryover effects are slow. Electrospray ionization (ESI) is extensively used in the analysis of biological compounds; yet some fundamental properties of this technique are not completely understood. It is widely recognized that care should be exercised when noncovalent complexes are being studied by ESI, since weak noncovalent binding can be broken or formed during the desolvation process. In the present work, spectra from the noncovalent complex, vancomycin/diacetyl-L-lysyl-D-alanyl-D-alanine, obtained from ESI and from nanoelectrospray ionization (nanoESI), have been compared. The results indicated that the milder desolvation conditions arising as a result of the smaller sizes of droplets produced in the nanoESI source attenuated effects upon weak bonds in the desolvation process. The association constant values calculated from the relative peak intensities suggest that, when using ESI, the analyzed noncovalent complex dissociated in the condensed phase during the spraying process. The influences of experimental parameters such as tip diameter and coating for nanoESI needles were investigated. Principal component analysis, a multivariate analysis method, was applied to achieve a better evaluation of the spectra obtained using different needle diameters and coatings for the analysis of the noncovalent complex vancomycin/diacetyl-L-lysyl-D-alanyl-D-alanine. It was found that 2-microm tip diameter resulted in more reproducible spectra than the larger tip diameters tested (6-20 microm).  相似文献

Evaluation of metal leaching using a single leach test such as the Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP) is often questionable. The pH, redox potential (E(h)), particle size and contact time are critical variables in controlling metal stability, not accounted for in the TCLP. This paper compares the leaching behavior of metals in mineral processing waste via short-term extraction tests such as TCLP, Field Leach Test (FLT) used by USGS and deionized water extraction tests. Variation in the extracted amounts was attributed to the use of different particle sizes, extraction fluid and contact time. In the controlled pH experiments, maximum metal extraction was obtained at acidic pH for cationic heavy metals such as Cu, Pb and Zn, while desorption of Se from the waste resulted in high extract concentrations in the alkaline region. Precipitation of iron, caused by a pH increase, probably resulted in co-precipitation and immobilization of Cu, Pb and Zn in the alkaline pH region. A sequential extraction procedure was performed on the original waste and the solid residue from the E(h)-pH experiments to determine the chemical speciation and distribution of the heavy metals. In the as-received waste, Cu existed predominantly in water soluble or sulfidic phases, with no binding to carbonates or iron oxides. Similar characteristics were observed for Pb and Zn, while Se existed mostly associated with iron oxides or sulfides. Adsorption/co-precipitation of Cu, Se and Pb on precipitated iron hydroxides was observed in the experimental solid residues, resulting in metal immobilization above pH 7.  相似文献
