Current computer systems separate main memory from storage, and programming languages typically reflect this distinction using different representations for data in memory and storage. However, moving data back and forth between these different layers and representations compromise both programming and execution efficiency. To remedy this, the concept of orthogonal persistence (OP) was proposed in the early 1980s advocating that, from a programmer's standpoint, there should be no differences in the way that short-term and long-term data are manipulated. However, at that time, the underlying implementations still had to cope with the complexity of moving data across memory and storage. Today, recent nonvolatile memory (NVM) technologies, such as resistive RAM and phase-change memory, allow main memory and storage to be collapsed into a single layer of persistent memory, opening the way for more efficient programming abstractions for handling persistence. In this work, we revisit OP concepts in the context of NVM architectures and propose a persistent heap design for languages with automatic memory management. We demonstrate how it can significantly increase programmer and execution efficiency, removing the impedance mismatch of crossing semantic boundaries. To validate and demonstrate the presented concepts, we present JaphaVM, an implementation of the proposed design based on JamVM, an open-source Java Virtual Machine. Our results show that JaphaVM, in most cases, executes the same operations between one and two orders of magnitude faster than regular database-based and file-based implementations, while requiring significantly less lines of code. 相似文献

The rapid development of Internet of Things mobile terminals has accelerated the market's demand for portable mobile power supplies and flexible wearable devices. Here, an embedded metal-mesh transparent conductive electrode (TCE) is prepared on poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) using a novel selective electrodeposition process combined with inverted film-processing methods. This embedded nickel (Ni)-mesh flexible TCE shows excellent photoelectric performance (sheet resistance of ≈0.2–0.5 Ω sq−1 at high transmittance of ≈85–87%) and mechanical durability. The PET/Ni-mesh/polymer poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS PH1000) hybrid electrode is used as a transparent electrode for perovskite solar cells (PSCs), which exhibit excellent electric properties and remarkable environmental and mechanical stability. A power conversion efficiency of 17.3% is obtained, which is the highest efficiency for a PSC based on flexible transparent metal electrodes to date. For perovskite crystals that require harsh growth conditions, their mechanical stability and environmental stability on flexible transparent embedded metal substrates are studied and improved. The resulting flexible device retains 76% of the original efficiency after 2000 bending cycles. The results of this work provide a step improvement in flexible PSCs. 相似文献

The pepino (Solanum muricatum) is an edible and juicy fruit native to the Andean region which is becoming increasingly important. However, little information is available on its phenolic composition and bioactive properties. Four pepino varieties (37-A, El Camino, Puzol, and Valencia) and one accession (E-7) of its close wild relative S. caripense were characterized by HPLC-DAD-MSn/ESI. Twenty-four hydroxycinnamic acid derivatives were detected (5 to 16 compounds per variety or accession), with differences of more than two-fold for their total content among the materials studied. The major phenolics in the pepino varieties were chlorogenic acids and derivatives, while in S. caripense a caffeoyl-synapoyl-quinic acid was the major compound. The in vitro antioxidant capacity (DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl hydrate), ORAC (oxygen radical absorbance capacity), and TRC (total reducing capacity) tests) was higher in S. caripense. Pepino and S. caripense extracts were not toxic for RAW 264.7 macrophage cells, and the raw extracts inhibited NO production of the lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated macrophages by 36% (El Camino) to 67% (37-A). No single variety ranked high simultaneously for hydroxycinnamic acids content, antioxidant activity and biological activity. We suggest the screening of large collections of germplasm or the use of complementary crosses between Puzol (high for hydroxycinnamic acids and biological activity) and S. caripense E-7 (high for antioxidant activity) to select and breed pepino varieties with enhanced properties. 相似文献

Grids currently in production can be broadly classified as either service Grids, composed of dedicated resources, or opportunistic Grids that harvest the computing power of non-dedicated resources when they are idle. While a service Grid provides high and well defined levels of quality of service, an opportunistic Grid provides only a best-effort service. Nevertheless, since opportunistic Grids do not require resources to be fully dedicated to the Grid, they have the potential to assemble a much larger number of resources. Moreover, these Grids cater very well to the execution of the so-called embarrassingly parallel applications, a type of application that is frequently found in practice, and that comprises the largest portion of the typical workload processed in production Grid systems. The EELA-2 e-infrastructure is comprised of a service Grid and an opportunistic Grid that federates computing resources from scientific institutions in both Europe and Latin America. Due to the complementary characteristics of these two types of Grids, a lot of attention has recently been placed in how to interoperate them. In this paper we focus on the less studied problem of assessing the feasibility of such interoperation. We analyse different prioritisation policies that define when the resources of one Grid can be used to run jobs originating from the other. Our results show that in the absence of a suitable prioritisation policy, the benefits that the users of one Grid may have, frequently come with an important negative impact on the users of the other Grid. We also show that a simple reciprocation mechanism is capable of arbitrating the interoperation in such a way that, whenever possible, users profit from the interoperation and, in no case, this benefit leads to a noticeable reduction on the quality of service that the users would experience were the Grids not to interoperate. We conclude discussing how we have implemented, in the context of the EELA-2 project, this prioritisation mechanism, allowing the effective interoperation of a service Grid based on the gLite middleware with an opportunistic Grid that uses the OurGrid middleware. 相似文献

This is the first report of the chemical and biological properties of the lipooligosaccharide (LOS) endotoxin isolated from Burkholderia dolosa IST4208, an isolate recovered from a cystic fibrosis (CF) patient in a Portuguese CF center. B. dolosa is a member of the Burkholderia cepacia complex, a group of closely related species that are highly problematic and opportunistic pathogens in CF. B. dolosa infection leads to accelerated loss of lung function and decreased survival. The structural determination of its endotoxin was achieved using a combination of chemistry and spectroscopy, and has revealed a novel endotoxin structure. The purified LOS was tested for its immunostimulatory activity on human HEK 293 cells expressing TLR‐4, MD‐2, and CD‐14. In these assays, the LOS showed strong proinflammatory activity. 相似文献

A new flexible polymeric gas sensor is developed by photocrosslinking poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate resin (PEGDA) containing multi‐walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) as conductive filler. The cured material shows a percolative threshold conductivity which changes when in contact with various gas analytes with different chemical and physical properties. The different behavior of the sensors toward the different gases is explained either on the basis of chemical affinity toward the polymeric matrix or due to the interactions that can occur between the analyte and the surface of the nanotubes in the case of the aromatic gas. 相似文献
