A method for characterizing the subsurface is developed using an artificial neural network (ANN) and geographic information system (GIS). Data on the distribution of aquifer materials from monitoring well lithologic logs are used to train a multilayer perceptron using the back-propagation algorithm. The trained ANN predicts using an appropriate prediction scale, the subsurface formation materials at each point on a discretized grid of the model area. GIS is then used to develop subsurface profiles from the data generated using the ANN. These subsurface profiles are then compared with available geological sections to check the accuracy of the ANN-GIS generated profiles. This methodology is applied to determine the aquifer extent and calculate aquifer parameters for input to ground-water models for the multiaquifer system underlying the city of Bangkok, Thailand. A selected portion of the model domain is used for illustration. The integrated approach of ANN and GIS is shown to be a powerful tool for characterizing complex aquifer geometry, and for calculating aquifer parameters for ground-water flow modeling. 相似文献

OBJECTIVES: We compared the ability of preoperative abdominal computed tomography (CT) with that of preoperative abdominal ultrasonography (US) in predicting the extent of tumor growth and the curative resectability of gastric cancer. METHODS: Abdominal CT and US were done in 95 patients with gastric adeno-carcinoma. The radiologic findings were prospectively compared with surgical and pathologic findings. RESULTS: The sensitivities of abdominal CT and US in detecting the perigastric lymph node involvement were 26.6% and 20%, respectively. The sensitivity of abdominal CT in predicting the pancreatic invasion (60%) was better than that of abdominal US (20%). However, there were 6 false positive diagnosis of pancreatic invasion by abdominal CT; in contrast, there was no false positive diagnosis of pancreatic invasion by abdominal US. Of 95 patients who underwent surgical exploration, 14 were found to have unresectable tumors because of extragastric organ involvement and distant metastases. Abdominal CT falsely predicted 8 of 14 cases in which curative gastric resection was impossible as resectable. Moreover, abdominal CT falsely predicted 5 of 81 cases in which curative gastric resection was possible as unresectable. Abdominal US falsely predicted 12 of 14 cases in which curative surgery was impossible as resectable. CONCLUSION: Preoperative abdominal Ct and US did not accurately predict the tumor extent and the curative resectability of the gastric cancer. Especially, abdominal CT finding of pancreatic invasion by gastric cancer should not be a contraindication for surgical exploration. 相似文献

We have investigated the photovoltage and photocurrent spectra of crystalline silicon/porous silicon heterojunctions. The porous silicon layers were prepared using anodic etching of p-type crystalline silicon at a current density of 25 mA/cm2. From the spectral dependence of the photovoltage and photocurrent, we suggest that the photovoltaic properties of the junction are dominated by absorption in crystalline silicon only. We have also studied the effect of increase in the thickness of porous silicon layers on these spectra. We find that the open-circuit voltage of the devices increases, but the short-circuit current decreases with an increase in the thickness of the porous silicon layers. We propose a qualitative explanation for this trend, based on the increase in the series and the shunt resistance of these devices. The effect of hydrogen passivation on the junction properties by exposing the devices to hydrogen plasma is also reported. 相似文献

The effects of nickel additions on the energy of gold/graphite interfaces was investigated. Nickel was found to segregate to the interface forming an adsorbed layer. Solid-state wetting measurements showed that the contact angle of gold on graphite was decreased by 7.8° by the addition of 15 at % Ni. The corresponding decrease in interfacial energy, determined from the Young-Dupré equation was found to be 112 mJm–2. The interfacial excess of nickel corresponding to 15 at % Ni in the bulk was calculated by means of the Gibbs adsorption isotherm to be about 0.45 equivalent monolayers of gold. The presence of nickel at the interface was further confirmed by crater-edge profiling studies performed in a scanning Auger microprobe. 相似文献
