An equation has been derived for the prediction of the Poisson's ratio of porous materials having ribbon like pores. The equation fits the data of silica gel with ribbon like pores quite well for the whole range of porosity. For spherical pores, a relation derived by previous researchers showed an anomalous variation in Poisson's ratio with porosity. It has been shown that it was due to the mathematical form of the function chosen to describe the relation between the bulk and Young's moduli with porosity. In this analysis, a modified form of the function to describe Young's and bulk modulus with porosity has been suggested for spherical pores. The derived relation for variation of Poisson's ratio with porosity shows good agreement with the prediction by self consistent theory.  相似文献

Both full and semi-interpenetrating polymer networks (IPNs) of polybutadiene and poly(methyl methacrylate) were synthesized by sequential polymerization. The effect of compositional variation and the cross-linking agent of both elastomer and plastomer on the physical, mechanical, and morphological properties were investigated. Full-IPNs exhibited improved tensile strength, modulus, tear strength, gel content, and density, whereas the corresponding semi-IPNs exhibited better toughness and elongation at break. Phase morphology of full-IPNs were characterized by compact, tight network structures compared to those of semi-IPNs. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

In this paper, the effect of fading correlation at the receiving elements of a linear antenna array in a relay-assisted cooperative single-input multiple-output (SIMO) system has been investigated over flat Rayleigh fading channels. Considering a model of local scatterer around the source and relay nodes and uniform angle of arrival (AOA) distribution, the spatial cross-correlation analysis is presented and extensive simulation studies are performed to determine the envelope correlation as a function of antenna spacing, mean AOA and angular spread. Error performance analysis for coherent binary and quaternary modulations are presented for fixed-gain amplify-and-forward (AF) and fixed decode-and-forward (DF) relaying with dual diversity maximal-ratio combiner (MRC) receiver array. Error probability in terms of bit error probability (BEP) and symbol error probability (SEP) is evaluated to study the effect of relevant parameters on the correlation performance. The presented results establish the fact that fixed DF relay network performs relatively well than fixed-gain AF relaying. Superior performance of dual-hop cooperative SIMO system over conventional single-hop SIMO system has also been observed.  相似文献

Elastic constant–porosity relation for polycrystalline thoria reported by previous researchers has been reanalyzed on the basis of the Mori–Tanaka mean field approach and a power law dependence of moduli with porosity. It indicates that the shear modulus dependence on Young's modulus is possibly related to the sintering characteristics of the material rather than pore morphology. A new method has been suggested for predicting variations of elastic properties and porosity with the progress in sintering of thoria based on experimental data at a single porosity only. The predicted values agree with the experimental data quite well.  相似文献

k-essence scalar field models are usually taken to have Lagrangians of the form L = −V (φ)F(X) with F some general function of X = ▿ μ φ μ ϕ. Under certain conditions, this Lagrangian can take the form of that of an oscillator with time-dependent frequency. The Ermakov invariant for a time-dependent oscillator in a cosmological scenario then leads to an invariant quadratic form involving the Hubble parameter and a logarithm of the scale factor. In principle, this invariant can lead to further observational probes for the early Universe. Moreover, if such an invariant can be observationally verified, then the presence of dark energy will also be indirectly confirmed.  相似文献

Thermal design of transportation cask for shipping radioactive waste needs strict compliance with the guidelines of the regulatory bodies. Lead shielding is usually provided in these casks for arresting gamma rays and reducing hazardous emissions to the environment below permissible limits. During transportation, accidental fire may break out and cause melting of lead for a prescribed duration. The present analysis reports, for the first time, a comprehensive CFD analysis of the thermal behaviour of melting of lead under high Rayleigh number convection during the fire test. The study reveals a substantial influence of natural convection on the thermal state and melting behaviour of lead which may have a great bearing on the safety and security of public during transportation of cask.  相似文献

We present a new approach for fabricating robust, regenerable antimicrobial coatings containing an ionic liquid (IL) phase incorporating silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) as a reservoir for Ag(0)/Ag(+) species within sol-gel-derived nanocomposite films integrating organosilicate nanoparticles. The IL serves as an ultralow volatility (vacuum-compatible) liquid target, allowing for the direct deposition and dispersion of a high-density AgNP "ionosol" following conventional sputtering techniques. Two like-anion ILs were investigated in this work: methyltrioctylammonium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide, [N(8881)][Tf(2)N], and 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide, [emim][Tf(2)N]. Silver ionosols derived from these two ILs were incorporated into silica-based sol-gel films and the resultant antimicrobial activity evaluated against Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria. Imaging of the surface morphologies of the as-prepared films established a link between an open macroporous film architecture and the observation of high activity. Nanocomposites based on [N(8881)][Tf(2)N] displayed excellent antimicrobial activity against P. aeruginosa over multiple cycles, reducing cell viability by 6 log units within 4 h of contact. Surprisingly, similar films prepared from [emim][Tf(2)N] presented negligible antimicrobial activity, an observation we attribute to the differing abilities of these IL cations to infiltrate the cell wall, regulating the influx of silver ions to the bacterium's interior.  相似文献

In this paper we report size dependent single electron tunneling behavior at room temperature in a metal-oxide-semiconductor structure with uniformly sized Pt nanoparticles embedded in an Al(2)O(3) dielectric. The sub-2 nm size Pt nanoparticles sandwiched between the Al(2)O(3) layers are deposited by a unique tilted target sputter deposition technique which produces metal nanoparticles as small as 0.5 nm with narrow size distributions at room temperature. The charging behavior of these nanoparticles shows clear single electron tunneling peaks due to the Coulomb blockade effect. Moreover, the average single electron addition energy and height of the single electron tunneling current strongly depend on the size of the Pt nanoparticle. These controllable single electron tunneling behaviors suggest a new route for fabrication of single electron devices.  相似文献
