The utilisation of particle-surfactants nanostructures as stabilising agents represents today the technologic and scientific frontier in the stabilisation of liquid films in emulsion and foams. This topic will be addressed by the proposal STEFAN (STabilisation of Emulsions and FoAms by Nanoparticles), proposed by European groups in the framework of the ESA AO-2004 for Life and Physical Sciences and Applied Research projects Similarly to what can be observed for surfactant-stabilised emulsions and foams, microgravity provides ideal conditions for the investigation of the hierarchy of involved objects: interfacial layer, liquid film, dispersed systems foam or emulsion. Microgravity experiments are planned by refurbishing the Experimental Container FASES for the ISS Fluid Science Laboratory and the facility FASTER for the European Drawer Rack, already under development in existing research programmes. Here the scientific guidelines of the project are presented together with examples and preliminary results on the effect of nano-particle-surfactant structures adsorbed at liquid interfaces. First experimental results have been achieved for particle monolayers at the water/air interface and a thermodynamic model was derived to describe the obtained surface pressure-area isotherms.  相似文献

Recent research on the dynamics of planar grain boundaries is reviewed. Novel measuring techniques developed for in situ observation and recording of magnetically and stress driven grain boundary migration are presented. The results of migration measurements obtained on bismuth, zinc and aluminum bicrystals are addressed. The experiments revealed that the inclination of a 〈112〉 tilt boundary in Bi has a very strong influence on its mobility. The migration of planar 〈10$ \bar 1 $ \bar 1 0〉 tilt grain boundaries with different misorientation angles was measured in situ in bicrystals of high purity zinc. The results proved that there is a pronounced misorientation dependence of grain boundary mobility in the investigated angular range. The shear stress induced migration of planar symmetric 〈100〉 tilt boundaries in aluminum bicrystals was observed to be accompanied by a lateral translation of the adjacent grains. The coupling between boundary motion and shearing is not confined to low angle and some low Σ high angle boundaries, but occurs also for noncoincidence high angle 〈100〉 tilt boundaries. It has been found that also for stress induced grain boundary motion there is a misorientation dependence of the migration activation parameters. Lower values of the activation enthalpy and the pre-exponential mobility factor can be associated with boundaries with tilt angles close to low Σ CSL orientation relationships.  相似文献

Targeted drug delivery systems that combine imaging and therapeutic modalities in a single macromolecular construct may offer advantages in the development and application of nanomedicines. To incorporate the unique optical properties of luminescent quantum dots (QDs) into immunoliposomes for cancer diagnosis and treatment, we describe the synthesis, biophysical characterization, tumor cell-selective internalization, and anticancer drug delivery of QD-conjugated immunoliposome-based nanoparticles (QD-ILs). Pharmacokinetic properties and in vivo imaging capability of QD-ILs were also investigated. Freeze-fracture electron microscopy was used to visualize naked QDs, liposome controls, nontargeted QD-conjugated liposomes (QD-Ls), and QD-ILs. QD-ILs prepared by insertion of anti-HER2 scFv exhibited efficient receptor-mediated endocytosis in HER2-overexpressing SK-BR-3 and MCF-7/HER2 cells but not in control MCF-7 cells as analyzed by flow cytometry and confocal microscopy. In contrast, nontargeted QD-Ls showed minimal binding and uptake in these cells. Doxorubicin-loaded QD-ILs showed efficient anticancer activity, while no cytotoxicity was observed for QD-ILs without chemotherapeutic payload. In athymic mice, QD-ILs significantly prolonged circulation of QDs, exhibiting a plasma terminal half-life ( t 1/2) of approximately 2.9 h as compared to free QDs with t 1/2 < 10 min. In MCF-7/HER2 xenograft models, localization of QD-ILs at tumor sites was confirmed by in vivo fluorescence imaging.  相似文献

The catalytic reaction rate of combustion of hydrogen in air on platinized alumina was measured in a flat rectangular flow reactor with one catalytic wall in laminar flow. Since the rate of reaction is very high, this measurement normally must be made in turbulent flow. However, with the aid of the measured concentration profiles and the analysis presented in Part I, it was possible to ascertain the reaction rate in the laminar flow regime. The rate constants compare well with literature values which were measured in the turbulent flow regime. Average Nusselt numbers for mass transfer calculated for the diffusionally limited cases were in good agreement with those obtained from Part I. A narrow rectangular channel (aspect ratio = 8:1) with 16-in. of one wall comprising the reactive section was constructed for this investigation. The channel has a long preheat section, an adiabatic section with multiple heaters, and thermocouples for maintaining isothermal conditions. Two micrometer mounted probes are inserted through the wall opposite the replaceable catalytic section. Concentrations are measured at the inlet, inside the reactive section, and at the outlet in a mixing chamber.  相似文献

The effect of the fractal clusters of a normal phase, which act as pinning centers, on the dynamics of magnetic flux in percolative type-II superconductor is considered. The main features of these clusters are studied in detail: the cluster statistics is analyzed; the fractal dimension of their boundary is estimated; the distribution of critical currents is obtained, and its peculiarities are explored. It is found that there is the range of fractal dimension where this distribution has anomalous statistical properties, specifically, its dispersion becomes infinite. It is examined how the finite resolution capacity of the cluster geometric size measurement affects the estimated value of fractal dimension. The effect of fractal properties of the normal phase clusters on the electric field arisen from magnetic flux motion is investigated for the cluster area distribution of different kinds. The voltage-current characteristics of fractal superconducting structures in the resistive state are obtained for an arbitrary fractal dimension. It is revealed that the fractality of the boundaries of the normal phase clusters intensifies the magnetic flux trapping and thereby raises the critical current of a superconductor.  相似文献
