The identification and production of recombinant morphogens and growth factors that play key roles in tissue regeneration have generated much enthusiasm and numerous clinical trials, but the results of many of these trials have been largely disappointing. Interestingly, the trials that have shown benefit all contain a common denominator, the presence of a material carrier, suggesting strongly that spatio-temporal control over the location and bioactivity of factors after introduction into the body is crucial to achieve tangible therapeutic effect. Sophisticated materials systems that regulate the biological presentation of growth factors represent an attractive new generation of therapeutic agents for the treatment of a wide variety of diseases. This review provides an overview of growth factor delivery in tissue engineering. Certain fundamental issues and design strategies relevant to the material carriers that are being actively pursued to address specific technical objectives are discussed. Recent progress highlights the importance of materials science and engineering in growth factor delivery approaches to regenerative medicine.  相似文献

A generalization of the linear fractional integral equation u(t)=u0+∂αAu(t), 1<α<2, which is written as a Volterra matrix-valued equation when applied as a pixel-by-pixel technique is proposed in this paper for image denoising (restoration, smoothing, etc.). Since the fractional integral equation interpolates a linear parabolic equation and a hyperbolic equation, the solution enjoys intermediate properties. The Volterra equation we propose is well-posed for all t>0, and allows us to handle the diffusion by means of a viscosity parameter instead of introducing nonlinearities in the equation as in the Perona-Malik and alike approaches. Several experiments showing the improvements achieved by our approach are provided.  相似文献

Bacterial trapping using nanonets is a ubiquitous immune defense mechanism against infectious microbes. These nanonets can entrap microbial cells, effectively arresting their dissemination and rendering them more vulnerable to locally secreted microbicides. Inspired by this evolutionarily conserved anti-infective strategy, a series of 15 to 16 residue-long synthetic β-hairpin peptides is herein constructed with the ability to self-assemble into nanonets in response to the presence of bacteria, enabling spatiotemporal control over microbial killing. Using amyloid-specific K114 assay and confocal microscopy, the membrane components lipoteichoic acid and lipopolysaccharide are shown to play a major role in determining the amyloid-nucleating capacity as triggered by Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria respectively. These nanonets displayed both trapping and killing functionalities, hence offering a direct improvement from the trap-only biomimetics in literature. By substituting a single turn residue of the non-amyloidogenic BTT1 peptide, the nanonet-forming BTT1-3A analog is produced with comparable antimicrobial potency. With the same sequence manipulation approach, BTT2-4A analog modified from BTT2 peptide showed improved antimicrobial potency against colistin-resistant clinical isolates. The peptide nanonets also demonstrated robust stability against proteolytic degradation, and promising in vivo efficacy and biosafety profile. Overall, these bacteria-responsive peptide nanonets are promising clinical anti-infective alternatives for circumventing antibiotic resistance.  相似文献

Management in wireless backhaul networks is a challenging task, especially in rural and isolated environments. In these scenarios, the backhaul network usually consists of a set of heterogeneous wireless links that provide limited and variable bandwidth to the access networks, often 3G/4G small cells. Because of the highly constrained nature of this type of backhaul network, intelligent and joint management in both the backhaul network and the access network is crucial in order to avoid performance degradation caused by traffic congestion. In order to avoid the saturation in the backhaul network, access networks should consider the backhaul state when taking decisions in the admission control and scheduling procedures. However, no standardized mechanisms currently exist for sharing management information between both networks. In this work, we propose to use the Explicit Congestion Notification (ECN) bit in the outer IP headers present in the Iuh 3GPP IPSec‐enabled interfaces in order to notify the backhaul congestion state to the access network. We analyze for the referred scenario, compatibility and security details, validating our approach by running numerically simulations and implementing the notification mechanism. Our low complexity approach offers 2% accuracy and backhaul update latency lower than 10 ms during 80% of the time, which makes the solution appropriate for admission control and scheduling intervals in small cells.  相似文献

Interfacial structure plays a great role in solder joint reliability. In solder joints on Cu, not only is Kirkendall voiding at the solder/Cu interface a concern, but also the growth of interfacial Cu–Sn intermetallic compounds (IMCs). In this work, evolution of microstructure in the interfacial region was studied after thermal aging at 100–150 °C for up to 1000 h. Special effort was made during sample preparation to reveal details of the interfacial structure. Thickness of the interfacial phases was digitally measured and the activation energy was deduced for the growth of Cu3Sn. Kirkendall voids formed at the Cu/Cu3Sn interface as well as within the Cu3Sn layer. The thickness of Cu3Sn significantly increased with aging time, but that of Cu6Sn5 changed a little. The interfacial Cu3Sn layer was found growing at the expense of Cu6Sn5. Evolution of the interfacial structure during thermal aging is discussed.  相似文献

This paper revises and introduces to the field of reconfigurable computer systems, some traditional techniques used in the fields of fault-tolerance and testing of digital circuits. The target area is that of on-board spacecraft electronics, as this class of application is a good candidate for the use of reconfigurable computing technology. Fault tolerant strategies are used in order for the system to adapt itself to the severe conditions found in space. In addition, the paper describes some problems and possible solutions for the use of reconfigurable components, based on programmable logic, in space applications.  相似文献

The concentrations of individual and total glucosinolates were measured in four types of Portuguese cabbage and in one hybrid white cabbage before and after cooking. Typical Portuguese culinary procedures include boiling the cabbage for 10 min but for particular kale types the leaves are first shredded then boiled for 5 min (Caldo verde). Analysis of the fresh cabbage, cooked leaves and cooking water showed that the glucosinolate content of the cabbages is reduced by more than 50%. Almost all of this loss is accounted for as intact glucosinolates in the cooking water, normally used for soups in Portugal.  相似文献

This paper presents a new thermogenerator based on moderate-temperature (up to 175°C) BiTe modules available on the open market. Despite this handicap relative to commercial thermogenerators based on high-temperature proprietary-technology PbBi modules (up to 560°C), this new design may become economically competitive due to its innovative thermal sink. Our thermal sink is based on a free-convection water loop built with standard tubing and household hot-water radiators, leading to a more practical, modular design. So, the specific cost of about 55,000 USD/kW obtained for this 120-W prototype is improved to 33,000 USD/kW for a 1-kW unit, which represents about half the price of commercial thermogenerators. Moreover, considering recently launched BiTe modules (that withstand up to 320°C), our proposition could have an even more favorable outlook.  相似文献
