New thermodynamic fundamentals for vertical pneumatic conueying are proposed with derivation based strictly on mass conservation and continuum concept. For a 1-D, vertical, steady gas-solid flow, these new mass and energy balances allowed the derivation of a new nondimensional energy factor containing the pressure drop. This energy factor correlated quite well with the difference between the inlet gas velocity and solids terminal velocity, when tested against high-pressure, 15-m-high, vertical pneumatic transport data from Institute of Gas Technology. The energy factor was also checked against atmospheric-pressure data of the 5-m lift line of the Pennsylvania State Uniuersity. The new energy factor covers quite well both the atmospheric- and high-pressure sets of data (923 tests) including two heights, lean- and dense-phase transports, several pipe diameters, broad and narrow particle-size distributions, and different materials. This paper presents costs per US motor vehicle crash victim differentiated into many more diagnostic categories than prior estimates. These unit costs, which include the first keyed to the 1990 edition of Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) threat-to-life severity scores, are reported by body part, whether a fracture/dislocation was involved, and the maximum AIS score among the victim's injuries. This level of detail allows for a more accurate estimation of the social costs of motor vehicle crashes. It also allows for reliable analyses of interventions targeting narrow ranges of injuries. The paper updates the medical care data underlying the US crash costs from 1979 to 1986 to the mid 1990s and improves on prior productivity cost estimates. In addition to presenting the latest generation of crash victim costs, this paper analyzes the effects of applying injury costs classified by AIS code from the 1985 edition to injury incidence data coded with the 1990 edition of AIS. This long-standing practice results in inaccurate cost-benefit analyses that typically overestimate benefits. This problem is more acute when old published costs adjusted for inflation are used rather than the recent costs. 相似文献

This paper reports an FT-IR study of blends of poly(mono-n-alkyl itaconates) with poly(N,N-dimethylacrylamide) (PDMA) and poly(ethyloxazoline) (PEOX). Strong hydrogen bonding has been found, and both polybases have shown similar acceptor strengths. Derivative techniques show asymmetric profiles for the free carbonyl band of the polybases, resulting in shifted band locations. The extent of the interassociation has been estimated by spectral curve fitting of the polybase carbonyl band. The results show that the interaction degree in blends with PEOX does not depend on the length of the poly(monoalkyl itaconate) side group, while an inter-associating ability loss is observed in blends with PDMA as the side-group size of the polyacid increases. This different behavior is attributed to the greater interspacing between vicinal carbonyl groups in PEOX. This band shows conformational sensitivity and reflects the conformational changes that occur as the steric hindrances present in the medium (due to the bulky side groups of the polyacids) increase. 相似文献

This article reports an aramid pulp (AP) treated with two ionic liquids (IL), namely 1-n-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride (C4.Cl) and 1-carboxymethyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride (HO2C), and its use as a filler in reinforced rigid polyurethane foams (RPUF). The RPUF were incorporated with the treated AP at three weight fractions (c.a. 0.1, 0.5, and 1.0 wt%) and were produced by the free rising method. The results showed that the studied IL promoted a better interaction between the AP and the RPUF system, which increased the overall reactivity, imparting a higher cell anisotropy. This also yielded a positive effect in mechanical properties and thermal stability of the RPUF. Compared to the neat RPUF, outstanding increases of approximately 50 and 20% were achieved in compressive modulus and strength, respectively. AbstractGluten-related disorders (GRD) affects approximately 10% of the general population. The only treatment for GRD is still so far is the lifelong complete exclusion of gluten from the daily diet. The correct information about the presence/absence of gluten in food is very important to this group. The present study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of gluten contamination in gluten-free industrial and non-industrial products. In this systematic review, 24 cross-sectional studies were analyzed. The authors developed specific search strategies for Science Direct, Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar and ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Global. The authors evaluated the methodological quality of the included studies using criteria from Meta-analysis of Statistics Assessment and Review Instrument (MASTARI). We performed the statistical meta-analysis by metafor package of R program. 95.83% (n?=?23) of the studies presented positive results for contamination (over 20?ppm). In industrial food products, studies showed a contamination prevalence of 13.2% (95% CI: 10.8%–15.7%). In non-industrial food products, studies showed a contamination prevalence of 41.5% (95% CI: 16.6%–66.4%). Despite the non-industrial products presented higher contamination prevalence than the industrial products, the difference was not significant (p?=?0.072). The findings indicate cross-contamination in industrialized and non-industrialized products. As expected, industrial products labeled as gluten-free showed a lower percentage of gluten-contamination than non-industrialized. Despite that, any contaminated sample found in this group present greater relevance than non-labeled foods. It indicates that foods labeled as “gluten-free” should not be considered safe for patients with GRD since information on the label regarding the presence/absence of gluten is unreliable. Therefore, any gluten-contamination in products labeled as gluten-free is a serious problem to whom present GRD. In this paper, we verify how far electric disturbance signals can be compressed without compromising the analysis of encoded fault records. A recently proposed compression algorithm, referred to as Damped Sinusoidal Matching Pursuit (DSMP) has the remarkable feature of obtaining both compact and physically interpretable representations. However, for fault analysis applications, one is primarily interested in how accurate can be the analysis performed on compressed signals, instead of evaluating mean-squared error figures. Unlike previous works in digital fault records compression, the performance of the DSMP compression method is evaluated using a protocol based on fault analysis procedures commonly performed by expert engineers. This protocol is applied for comparing the results obtained in the analysis of both uncompressed records and their compressed versions at different compression ratios. The results show that the DSMP is a reliable compression system since it achieves high compression ratios (6.4:1) without causing fault analysis misinterpretation. 相似文献

Shape grammars are a powerful and appealing formalism for automatic shape generation in computer-based design systems. This paper presents a proposal complementing the generative power of shape grammars with reinforcement learning techniques. We use simple (naive) shape grammars capable of generating a large variety of different designs. In order to generate those designs that comply with given design requirements, the grammar is subject to a process of machine learning using reinforcement learning techniques. Based on this method, we have developed a system for architectural design, aimed at generating two-dimensional layout schemes of single-family housing units. Using relatively simple grammar rules, we learn to generate schemes that satisfy a set of requirements stated in a design guideline. Obtained results are presented and discussed. 相似文献

We present a discrete‐time mathematical formulation for applying recursive digital filters to non‐uniformly sampled signals. Our solution presents several desirable features: it preserves the stability of the original filters; is well‐conditioned for low‐pass, high‐pass, and band‐pass filters alike; its cost is linear in the number of samples and is not affected by the size of the filter support. Our method is general and works with any non‐uniformly sampled signal and any recursive digital filter defined by a difference equation. Since our formulation directly uses the filter coefficients, it works out‐of‐the‐box with existing methodologies for digital filter design. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach by filtering non‐uniformly sampled signals in various image and video processing tasks including edge‐preserving color filtering, noise reduction, stylization, and detail enhancement. Our formulation enables, for the first time, edge‐aware evaluation of any recursive infinite impulse response digital filter (not only low‐pass), producing high‐quality filtering results in real time. 相似文献

A control chart is a very common tool used to monitor the quality of business processes. An estimator of the process variability is generally considered to obtain the control limits of a chart when parameters of the process are unknown. Assuming Monte Carlo simulations, this paper first compares the efficiency of the various estimators of the process variability. Two empirical measures used to analyze the performance of control charts are defined. Results derived from various empirical studies reveal the existence of a linear relationship between the performance of the various estimators of the process variability and the performance of charts. due to chloride attack is the most important degradation process, chloride penetration rate has been compared with different
durability tests results (concrete strength, porosity, water absorption, water penetration depth under pressure, capillarity,
water and oxygen permeability) carried out on concrete cores obtained from the caissons of seven Spanish wharves. Data have
been studied separately, depending on concrete location (chloride penetration rate is faster in submerged concretes than in
tidal zone concretes) and cement type (mineral admixtures reduce permeation rate due to pore size refinement). Results show
that it is advisable to control concrete water tightness through water penetration under pressure test; additionally, in order
