In the cold, Purdue Pegboard (PP) performance declines. The purpose of this study was to determine if this cold-induced impairment is consistent across days (i.e. test-retest reliability) in 5°C. In thermoneutral air (25°C), 14 men were familiarised to the dominant hand (PPa) and bimanual (PPb) PP tasks. They then experienced two 90-min cold exposures (Day 1, Day 2) while wearing ~1 clo. Bare hands were maintained throughout. Performance on both tasks showed high reliability from day to day (intraclass correlations >0.700) in both thermoneutral and cold conditions. However for both tasks, room temperature performance did not predict performance in the cold (intraclass correlations <0.450). When screening applicants for manual labour in the cold, one must consider that room temperature dexterity does not correlate with dexterity in the cold. It is recommended that a 60-min period of cold exposure be employed to assess manual dexterity in these workers. STATEMENT OF RELEVANCE: This study shows that PP performance in room temperature does not predict performance in the cold but performance in the cold is consistent from day to day. When screening applicants for manual labour in the cold, it is recommended that dexterity tests be conducted in the same ambient conditions. 相似文献

The Congo Basin is the world's third largest in size (~ 3.7 million km2), and second only to the Amazon River in discharge (~ 40,200 m3 s− 1 annual average). However, the hydrological dynamics of seasonally flooded wetlands and floodplains remains poorly quantified. Here, we separate the Congo wetland into four 3° × 3° regions, and use remote sensing measurements (i.e., GRACE, satellite radar altimeter, GPCP, JERS-1, SRTM, and MODIS) to estimate the amounts of water filling and draining from the Congo wetland, and to determine the source of the water. We find that the amount of water annually filling and draining the Congo wetlands is 111 km3, which is about one-third the size of the water volumes found on the mainstem Amazon floodplain. Based on amplitude comparisons among the water volume changes and timing comparisons among their fluxes, we conclude that the local upland runoff is the main source of the Congo wetland water, not the fluvial process of river-floodplain water exchange as in the Amazon. Our hydraulic analysis using altimeter measurements also supports our conclusion by demonstrating that water surface elevations in the wetlands are consistently higher than the adjacent river water levels. The application of object oriented concepts (OO) to the requirements phase of information systems (IS) and software development
has been adopted by many proponents of IS and software development methodologies. Although many claims have been made about
the effectiveness of OO techniques for improving requirements analysis, very few experimental studies have been done to substantiate
these claims. This paper addresses this gap in the literature by conducting an experimental study that attempts to validate
the effectiveness of object-oriented analysis (OOA) by comparing it to structured analysis (SA) for producing requirements.
We argue that the quality of the requirements specification can be measured and that measurement can be used to compare the
effectiveness of OOA and SA. We present an overview of the basic models and principles associated with OOA and SA, a discussion
of quality in requirements definition, and a detailed discussion of the research methodology used. A review of relevant research
is also presented and directions for further research are suggested. Our findings suggest that the OOA methodology does not

Role-based access control (RBAC) provides flexibility to security management over the traditional approach of using user and group identifiers. In RBAC, access privileges are given to roles rather than to individual users. Users acquire the corresponding permissions when playing different roles. Roles can be defined simply as a label, but such an approach lacks the support to allow users to automatically change roles under different contexts; using static method also adds administrative overheads in role assignment. In electronic commerce (E-Commerce) and other cooperative computing environments, access to shared resources has to be controlled in the context of the entire business process; it is therefore necessary to model dynamic roles as a function of resource attributes and contextual information.In this paper, an object-oriented organizational model, Organization Modeling and Management (OMM), is presented as an underlying model to support dynamic role definition and role resolution in E-Commerce solution. The paper describes the OMM reference model and shows how it can be applied flexibly to capture the different classes of resources within a corporation, and to maintain the complex and dynamic roles and relationships between the resource objects. Administrative tools use the role model in OMM to define security policies for role definition and role assignment. At runtime, the E-Commerce application and the underlying resource manager queries the OMM system to resolve roles in order to authorize any access attempts. Contrary to traditional approaches, OMM separates the organization model from the applications; thus, it allows independent and flexible role modeling to support realistically the dynamic authorization requirements in a rapidly changing business world. 相似文献

This paper presents algorithmic solutions for the complete coverage path planning problem using a team of mobile robots. Multiple robots decrease the time to complete the coverage, but maximal efficiency is only achieved if the number of regions covered multiple times is minimized. A set of multi-robot coverage algorithms is presented that minimize repeat coverage. The algorithms use the same planar cell-based decomposition as the Boustrophedon single robot coverage algorithm, but provide extensions to handle how robots cover a single cell, and how robots are allocated among cells. Specifically, for the coverage task our choice of multi-robot policy strongly depends on the type of communication that exists between the robots. When the robots operate under the line-of-sight communication restriction, keeping them as a team helps to minimize repeat coverage. When communication between the robots is available without any restrictions, the robots are initially distributed through space, and each one is allocated a virtually-bounded area to cover. A greedy auction mechanism is used for task/cell allocation among the robots. Abstract— A novel approach of modeling a‐Si:H TFTs with the industry‐standard BSIM3 compact model is presented. The described approach defines the a‐Si:H TFT drain current and terminal charges as explicit functions of terminal voltages using a minimum set of BSIM3 parameters. The set of BSIM3 parameters is chosen based on the electrical and physical characteristics of the a‐Si:H TFT and their values extracted from measured data. By using the selected BSIM3 model parameters, the a‐Si:H TFT is simulated inside SPICE to fit the simulated I‐V and C‐V curves with the measured results. A major challenge, and thus opportunity, in the field of human-computer interaction and specifically usability engineering is designing effective user interfaces for emerging technologies that have no established design guidelines or interaction metaphors or introduce completely new ways for users to perceive and interact with technology and the world around them. Clearly, augmented reality is one such emerging technology. We propose a usability engineering approach that employs user-based studies to inform design, by iteratively inserting a series of user-based studies into a traditional usability engineering lifecycle to better inform initial user interface designs. We present an exemplar user-based study conducted to gain insight into how users perceive text in outdoor augmented reality settings and to derive implications for design in outdoor augmented reality. In this paper, we study the bandwidth allocation problem for serving video requests in a mobile real-time video player system.
One of the main issues to maintain the quality of services (QoS) in mobile video playback is to ensure sufficient number of
video frames available at the client side while a video is being played. However, due to the limited bandwidth of a mobile
network and variable workload streaming video, this is not easy to achieve in practice. In addition, the communication link
between mobile clients and a video server is subject to frequent errors and temporary disconnection. In this paper, we propose
to use the notion of buffered bandwidth in addition to the network bandwidth to support real-time playback of videos at mobile clients. Based on this, we designed
a bandwidth allocation scheme called Cooperative Pre-Fetching (CP) in which the amount of bandwidth to be allocated to serve a video request depends on the current buffer level of the
video at the client relative to the target buffer level of the client. In determining the target buffer level, we consider
the errors in communication to the client as well as the other clients who are concurrently served by the system. The buffered
video frames at the clients are then used to minimize the impact of error in communications on the overall QoS of video playbacks
in the whole system.
