The nutritional value of Telfairia occidentalis seed and seed oil available in local market was studied in rats. The average values of the proximate analysis on dry matter basis were 203 g kg?1 crude protein, 536.3 g kg?1 fat, 39 g kg?1 ash, 95 g kg?1 crude fibre and 43.7 g kg?1 carbohydrate, while the moisture content was 75 g kg?1. The mineral analyses showed that T occidentalis seeds contain potassium (3280 mg kg?1), sodium (1230 mg kg?1), magnesium (60.8 mg kg?1), calcium (60.8 mg kg?1) and iron (13.0 mg kg?1). The oil extracted from the seed sample showed physicochemical properties that suggest its suitability for edible and industrial uses. The oil contained high levels of unsaturated fatty acids, oleic and linoleic, which accounted for 63.22% of total fatty acids recovered, while palmitic acid (27.4% of the oil by weight) was the most prevalent saturated fatty acid in the oil. No trace of eleostearic acid was detected in the oil. The effect on physical appearance, weight gain, organ weight, tissue and plasma cholesterol and triacylglycerol levels was determined in rats fed a diet containing 5% T occidentalis oil. These were compared with those of rats fed a control diet (0% T occidentalis oil) over an 8 week study period. Weekly monitoring of the rats showed good physical appearance and steady weight increase. The test rats were not anaemic and no mortality was recorded. While there was a significantly higher (p < 0.05) level of cholesterol in the heart of test rats compared with the control, there was a significantly lower (p < 0.05) plasma cholesterol level, suggesting that T occidentalis seed oil can be used to lower plasma levels of cholesterol. Histological examination of the sections of the heart, liver, kidney and spleen of the test rats revealed varying degrees of pathology. These include artherosclerotic changes in the walls of vasa vasori and lymphatics in the heart and hyaline degeneration of myofibrils, fatty infiltration of hepatocytes, and glomerular and tubular degeneration in the kidneys. These lesions may have been due to the effect of fatty acids, especially erucic acid, in the seed oil, which at 1.24% (less that the 5% conventional allowable limit for edible oils) may be intolerable for rats and may be unsuitable for human consumption. Today parametric associative CAD systems must help companies to create more efficient virtual development processes. While dealing with complex parts (e.g. the number of surfaces of the solid) no CAD modeling methodology is existing. Based on the analysis of industrial designers' practices as well as student practices on CAD, we identified key factors that lead to better performance. Our objective in this article is to propose a practical method for complex parts modeling in parametric CAD system. An illustration of the performances and the results obtained by this method are presented comparing the traditional method with the proposed one while using an academic case and then an industrial case.  相似文献

During the continuous casting of steel, several disturbances occur and affect all the parts of the caster, including the mould where the molten steel has to be stable for good quality of the final product. Especially at high casting velocities, the bulging generates important level fluctuations which cannot be efficiently rejected by the classical controllers. To address these problems, this paper proposes an architecture combining disturbances estimation and compensation techniques. It operates as an additional module and does not need any change of the main controller currently implemented. The entire structure has been tested successfully through several simulations and by means of intensive water model experiments.  相似文献

Recent results on catalytic wet air oxidation applied to a membrane contactor are presented that give new insight following a series of previous publications. Model and industrial effluents are treated in both single tube and multichannel catalytic systems. Characterisation of the catalytic material (solid analyses, electron microscopy, EDS and EPMA) is carried out, in order to determine the catalyst distribution. Catalytic results show performances heavily dependent on the nature of the effluent and the operating conditions, and to a lesser extent on the catalytic membrane characteristics. At 80 °C, an industrial effluent is oxidised at a membrane surface related rate of 3.8 mmol/s/m2. This result is achieved using a membrane containing about 0.1 wt.% Pt. This allows a revised and improved technico-economical evaluation of the Watercatox process.  相似文献

Strontium-doped lanthanum manganite powders were prepared using a peroxide acetate salt based solution. The stable sol was peptized by reacting ammonium hydroxide with the precursor solution. The amorphous dried gel powders exhibit a high energy level, due to their high cations coordination and small particles, to develop the perovskite phase. This crystalline phase development from powders containing monocarboxylate ligands was characterized by thermal analysis (TG, DTG, DTA), X-ray diffraction, and IR spectroscopy. The transformation from amorphous powders into a crystallized homogeneous oxycarbonate phase in a first stage corresponds to an exothermal DTA peak at 270°C. X-ray diffraction patterns and IR spectra showed similar behavior of the powders after complete organic removal, during the conversion into perovskite phase starting at approximately 630°C and achieved about 700°C and achieved about 700°C, as well as during the sintering process.  相似文献

An antibacterial peptide (AMP), i.e., nisin, was covalently bound to gelatin through a protein–protein coupling. Various reaction conditions were tested to study and optimize parameters of grafting e.g., orientation and density of AMP, which could impact the final antibacterial activity of the modified biopolymer. Modification was investigated by Fourier transform infrared (FT‐IR) spectroscopy and zeta potential. The antibacterial activity of the nisin‐enriched gelatin was evaluated against two staphylococci bacterial strains, i.e., Staphylococus epidermidis and Staphylococcus aureus. A higher activity was found for gelatin modified at pH = 7.4 revealing an influence of the nisin orientation on the protein antibacterial property. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Piezoelectric films were prepared by incorporation of lithium niobate (LiNbO3) nanoparticles into copolymer of vinylidene difluoride and trifluoroethylene. Nanoparticles of LiNbO3 with ferroelectric phase were successfully synthesized and dispersed homogenously by ultrasonication in the copolymer matrix without any surfactant or surface functionalization. The nanocomposites were fully characterized by electronic microscopy, X‐ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry, dynamical mechanical analysis, and piezometer. Surprisingly, the copolymer matrix crystallinity and morphology were not affected by the incorporation of nanoparticles. Therefore the nanocomposites remained good mechanicals properties and high ferroelectricity coupled to nonlinear optical activity thanks to the noncentro symmetric space group of lithium niobate.
