This paper reports the characterization of four meat and bone meal (MBM) ashes obtained from specific incineration (laboratory) and from co-incineration (industrial process). Three out of the four MBM ashes were mainly composed of calcium phosphates (hydroxyapatite and whitlockite). Their compositions (major and trace) were in the range for natural phosphate rocks. Trace element contents, including heavy metals, were below 0.6% and industrial ashes contained much more heavy metals than laboratory ash. The amounts of leached elements were low, especially for laboratory ash. According to the European classification of waste to be landfilled, the laboratory ash can be classified as an inert waste. Two industrial ashes are mostly inert. Only one ash is highly leachable and needs a stabilization treatment to be classified at least in the category of hazardous waste. It seems, from these results, that possibilities other than landfilling could be considered to give economic value to these ashes.  相似文献

This paper reports a simple procedure for derivatizing the surface of anatase TiO2 nanofibers with Pt nanoparticles and then Pt nanowires. The nanofibers were prepared in the form of a nonwoven mat by electrospinning with a solution containing both poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) and titanium tetraisopropoxide, followed by calcination in air at 510 degrees C. The fiber mat was then immersed in a polyol reduction bath to coat the surface of anatase fibers with Pt nanoparticles of 2-5 nm in size with controllable density of coverage. Furthermore, the coated fibers could serve as a three-dimensional scaffold upon which Pt nanowires of roughly 7 nm in diameter could be grown at a high density and with a length up to 125 nm. The fiber membranes functionalized with Pt nanoparticles and nanowires are interesting for a number of catalytic applications. It was found to show excellent catalytic activity for the hydrogenation of azo bonds in methyl red, which could be operated in a continuous mode by passing the dye solution through the membrane at a flow rate of 0.5 mL/s.  相似文献

We report on the formation of high-density regular arrays of nanometer-scale rods using femtosecond laser irradiation of a silicon surface immersed in water. The resulting surface exhibits both micrometer-scale and nanometer-scale structures. The micrometer-scale structure consists of spikes of 5-10 mum width, which are entirely covered by nanometer-scale rods that are roughly 50 nm wide and normal to the surface of the micrometer-scale spikes. The formation of the nanometer-scale rods involves several processes: refraction of laser light in highly excited silicon, interference of scattered and refracted light, rapid cooling in water, roughness-enhanced optical absorptance, and capillary instabilities.  相似文献

Highly faceted Pt nanocrystals with a large number of interconnected arms in a quasi-octahedral shape were synthesized simply by reducing H2PtCl6 precursor with poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) in aqueous solutions containing a trace amount of FeCl3. The iron species (Fe(3+) or Fe(2+)) play a key role in inducing the formation of the multioctahedral structure by decreasing the concentration of Pt atoms and keeping a low concentration for the Pt seeds during the reaction. This condition favors the overgrowth of Pt seeds along their corners and thus the formation of multiarmed nanocrystals. Electron microscopy studies revealed that the multioctahedral Pt nanocrystals exhibit a large number of edge, corner, and surface step atoms. The size of the multioctahedral Pt nanocrystals can be controlled by varying the concentration of FeCl3 added to the reaction and/or the reaction temperature. These multioctahedral Pt nanocrystals were tested as electrocatalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction in a proton exchange membrane fuel cell and exhibited improved specific activity and durability compared to commercial Pt/C catalyst.  相似文献

We utilize simple shear testing to investigate the volume change of clean sands subject to cyclic loads. We examine the effects of a number of compositional and environmental factors on the vertical strain at 15 uniform shear strain cycles and on the cycle-to-cycle variation of vertical strain. The compositional factor found to principally affect seismic compression susceptibility is relative density. Compositional factors found to not significantly affect cyclic volume change include gradation parameters (mean grain size and uniformity coefficient), particle angularity, soil fabric, mineralogy, and void ratio “breadth” e-emin. An environmental factor found to affect seismic compression susceptibility is confining stress, with volumetric strains decreasing with increasing stress. Environmental factors that do not significantly affect seismic compression susceptibility for clean sands are saturation and age. Stress history can decrease vertical strains from seismic compression for certain conditions, but we find such effects to be insignificant for the levels of overburden stress where compacted fills are typically overconsolidated from compaction-induced stresses. An empirical model is developed to represent the major trends of the data for application in engineering practice, which improves upon an earlier model that is based on a much smaller database and does not account for the aforementioned environmental factors.  相似文献

Previous research has shown that small injuries early in development can alter adult pain reactivity and processing of stimuli presented to the side of injury. However, the mechanisms involved and extent of altered adult spinal function following neonatal injury remain unclear. The present experiments were designed to 1) determine whether the effects of neonatal injury affect processing contralateral to the injury and 2) evaluate the role of cells expressing the NK1 receptor, shown to be involved in central sensitization in adults, in the negative effects of neonatal injury. The present findings indicate that the effects of neonatal injury are primarily isolated to the injured hind limb and do not result in a bilateral alteration in adult spinal function. In addition, the effects of neonatal injury appear to be partially dependent on cells expressing the NK1 receptor as ablating these cells at the time of injury or in adulthood results in attenuation of the neonatal injury-induced spinal learning deficit. Sexual experience has marked and long-lasting effects on male behavior in mammals, regulating traits such as the anticipation and display of sexual behavior, aggression, and olfaction. The authors conducted urine preference, habituation-dishabituation, and partner choice tests with sexually experienced and naive male mice and found that wild-type males acquire adaptively significant preferences for the odors of receptive, estrous females with sexual experience, and that these preferences are matched by changes in main olfactory system responses involving the piriform cortex, as indicated by c-Fos expression. The authors also report that these experiential effects are disrupted in male mice carrying a knockout of the imprinted gene Peg3. This paternally expressed gene regulates maternal care and offspring development, but the authors here report that Peg3 mutant males suffer a complex olfactory deficit that affects estrous odor preferences and the responses of the main olfactory system to such odors. Peg3 appears to have evolved to regulate the experience-dependent preference for receptive females, an adaptive trait that would enhance male reproductive success and so potentially increase paternal transmission of this paternally expressed gene. We present a new apparatus making possible both homogeneity and multipass pumping. It is made up of a square section kaleidoscope made of transparent medium on the terminal faces of which are set mirrors with transparent holes at the centers. The kaleidoscope homogenizes the beam. The pump power reflected by the amplifier medium returns in the kaleidoscope, and the mirrors reflect this pump light toward the amplifier medium.  相似文献

Annular folded imagers can be up to 10x thinner than corresponding full-aperture imagers, but have tight fabrication tolerances and relatively shallow depth of focus. Wavefront coding, the use of specialized optics with postdetection signal processing, has been used to improve the depth of focus in full-aperture imaging systems. Here we explore the application of wavefront coding to annular folded optics. We compare the design and experimental results for an imaging system with a 38 mm focal length and just 5 mm total track.  相似文献
