FITC-albumin, Lsr-F, or fluorescent polystyrene latex particles were electrosprayed from aqueous buffer and subjected to dispersion by differential electrical mobility at atmospheric pressure. A resulting narrow size cut of singly charged molecular ions or particles was passed through a condensation growth tube collector to create a flow stream of small water droplets, each carrying a single ion or particle. The droplets were splash landed (impacted) onto a solid or liquid temperature controlled surface. Small pools of droplets containing size-selected particles, FITC-albumin, or Lsr-F were recovered, re-electrosprayed, and, when analyzed a second time by differential electrical mobility, showed increased homogeneity. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis of the size-selected Lsr-F sample corroborated the mobility observation.  相似文献

Although zeolites are introduced to decrease methanol crossover of Nafion membranes for direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs), little is known about the effect of their intrinsic properties and the interaction with the ionomer. In this work, Nafion-Faujasite composite membranes prepared by solution casting were characterized by extensive physicochemical and electrochemical techniques. Faujasite was found to undergo severe dealumination during the membrane activation, but its structure remained intact. The zeolite interacts with Nafion probably through hydrogen bonding between Si-OH and SO3H groups, which combined with the increase of the water uptake and the water mobility, and the addition of a less conductive phase (the zeolite) leads to an optimum proton conductivity between 0.98 and 2 wt% of zeolite. Hot pressing the membranes before their assembling with the electrodes enhanced the DMFC performance by reducing the methanol crossover and the serial resistance.  相似文献

Psychiatric institutions are intended to be places of treatment and sanctuary. However, iatrogenic events in the hospital may interfere with treatment delivery and adherence (Shaw, McFarlane, & Bookless, 1997); additionally, a history of childhood abuse may increase vulnerability to negative emotional reactions to later adverse or threatening events (Chisholm, Freeman, & Cooke, 2006). The present study extends previous research on the frequency and impact of negative hospital events using the Psychiatric Experiences Questionnaire (Cusack et al., 2003), specifically considering the rate of negative events and consumers' perceptions of their treatment experiences. Questionnaires were administered to 43 participants with a history of at least one inpatient psychiatric hospitalization. Results indicated that 98% of participants had experienced at least one negative event in the psychiatric hospital. Child abuse history was significantly related to number of reported negative hospital events, so that those with a history of child abuse reported experiencing a greater number of negative hospital events and a higher level of subjective distress. In the present paper, results of an experimental investigation carried out in a modern diesel engine running at different operative conditions and fuelled with blends of diesel and n-butanol, are reported. The exploration strategy was focused on the management of the timing and injection pressure to achieve a condition in which the whole amount of fuel was delivered before ignition. The aim of the paper was to evaluate the potential to employ fuel blends having low cetane number and high resistance to auto-ignition to reduce engine out emissions of NOx and smoke without significant penalty on engine performance. Fuel blends were mixed by the baseline diesel (BU00) with 20% and 40% of n-butanol by volume. The n-butanol was taken by commercial production that is largely produced through petrochemical pathways although the molecule is substantially unchanged for butanol produced through biological mechanisms.The experimental activity was performed on a turbocharged, water cooled, DI diesel engine, equipped with a common rail injection system. The engine equipment includes an exhaust gas recirculation system controlled by an external driver, a piezo-quartz pressure transducer to detect the in-cylinder pressure signal and a current probe to acquire the energizing current to the injectors. Engine tests were carried out at 2500 rpm and 0.8 MPa of BMEP exploring the effect of start of injection, O2 concentration at intake and injection pressure on combustion behavior and engine out emissions. The in-cylinder pressure and rate of heat release were investigated for the neat diesel and the two blends to evaluate engine performance and exhaust emissions both for the conventional diesel and the advanced premixed combustion processes.The management of injection pressure, O2 concentration at intake and injection timing allowed to realize a partial premixed combustion by extending the ignition delay, particularly for blends. The main results of the investigation made reach smoke and NOx emissions due to the longer ignition delay and a better mixing control before combustion. The joint effect of higher resistance to auto ignition and higher volatility of n-butanol blends improved emissions compared to the neat diesel fuel with a low penalty on fuel consumption.  相似文献

The Wireless Access in Vehicular Environments (WAVE) protocol stack has been recently defined to enable vehicular communication on the Dedicated Short Range Communication (DSRC) frequencies. Some recent studies have demonstrated that the WAVE technology might not provide sufficient spectrum for reliable exchange of safety information over congested urban scenarios. In this paper, we address this issue, and present a novel cognitive network architecture in order to dynamically extend the Control Channel (CCH) used by vehicles to transmit safety-related information. To this aim, we propose a cooperative spectrum sensing scheme, through which vehicles can detect available spectrum resources on the 5.8 GHz ISM band along their path, and forward the data to a fixed infrastructure known as Road Side Units (RSUs). We design a novel Fuzzy-Logic based spectrum allocation algorithm, through which the RSUs infer the actual CCH contention conditions, and dynamically extend the CCH bandwidth in network congestion scenarios, by using the vacant frequencies detected by the sensing module. The simulation results reveal the effectiveness of our architecture in providing dynamic and scalable allocation of spectrum resources, and in increasing the performance of safety-related applications.  相似文献

Ss were taught novel mappings between visual space and motor space with either a variant on a prism adaptation paradigm (Exps 1 and 2) or a nonperceptual cognitive task (Exps 3 and 4). First, discrimination training specified that one visual location required a new pointing response but another location did not. This led to unusual generalization unlike typical generalization decrement. Second, training at 9 locations specified that 1 location required a new response but that the remaining 8 did not. This simple isolation mapping was unlearnable and instead a flat function fit through all of space. In contrast, for the cognitive paradigm, not only was isolation of one region of space easily learned, it was the preferred pattern of generalization. Implications for perceptual learning, as well as the qualitative distinctions between perceptual and cognitive learning, are discussed. It is known that advanced cancer patients may show abnormally low levels of IL-2. The immunotherapy with IL-2 can induce objective tumor regressions, but at present there are no data about the influence of a chronic exogenous IL-2 administration on endogenous secretion of IL-2. This preliminary study was performed to evaluate whether a prolonged IL-2 injection may be able to correct an eventual IL-2 endogenous deficiency in cancer patients. The study included 10 metastatic renal cancer patients, who underwent an immunotherapeutic cycle consisting of IL-2 at 6 million IU/day subcutaneously for 6 days/week for 4 weeks. Serum levels of IL-2 evaluated on venous blood samples collected before and 21 days after the end of IL-2 injection. Before the onset of treatment, abonormally low levels of IL-2 were seen in 6/10 patients. In patients with response or stable disease, mean levels of IL-2 observed 21 days after IL-2 cycle were significantly higher than those seen before therapy, whereas no difference occurred in those who progressed. This preliminary study would suggest that a prolonged subcutaneous injection of low-dose IL-2 may correct an eventual IL-2 endogenous deficiency in advanced cancer patients.  相似文献
