How does the ability of humans and primates to fixate at environmental points in the presence of relative motion help their visual systems in solving various tasks? To state the question in a more formal setting, we investigate in this article the following problem: Suppose that we have an active vision system, that is, a camera resting on a platform and being controlled through motors by a computer that has access to the images sensed by the camera in real time. The platform can move freely in the environment. If this machine can fixate on targets being in relative motion with it, can it solve visual tasks in an efficient and robust manner? By restricting our attention to a set of navigational tasks, we find that such an active observer can solve the problems of 3-D motion estimation, egomotion recovery, and estimation of time-to-contact in a very efficient manner, using as input the spatiotemporal derivatives of the image-intensity function (or normal flow). Fixation over time changes the input (motion field) in a controlled way and from this change additional information is derived making the previously mentioned tasks easier to solve. 相似文献

We describe a noncontact test procedure with which to obtain the shapes of fast convex surfaces. For this, an array of sources is positioned in a straight line and separated in such a way that the image by reflection on the surface consists of a set of equally spaced bright spots. By rotating the surface, we test different meridians such that, after 360 degrees, the entire surface is measured. We present the source array design and the surface evaluation algorithm. We found that, to reduce numerical error in the evaluation of the shape of the surface, a numerical integration must be performed by a method that uses parabolic arcs instead of the traditional method that uses trapezoids. Through some numerical simulations we analyzed the accuracy of the method by introducing random displacements into the measured data. We found that to measure the quality of the surface with accuracy better than 5 microm, we have to measure the coordinates of the centroids on the image plane with an accuracy better than 0.5 pixel, and we to have measure the positions of the linear sources with an accuracy better than 0.5 mm. Experimental results for the testing of a carbon fiber convex sphere of 383.6-mm diameter (f/0.398) are shown. 相似文献

By looking at a person’s hands, one can often tell what the person is going to do next, how his/her hands are moving and where they will be, because an actor’s intentions shape his/her movement kinematics during action execution. Similarly, active systems with real-time constraints must not simply rely on passive video-segment classification, but they have to continuously update their estimates and predict future actions. In this paper, we study the prediction of dexterous actions. We recorded videos of subjects performing different manipulation actions on the same object, such as “squeezing”, “flipping”, “washing”, “wiping” and “scratching” with a sponge. In psychophysical experiments, we evaluated human observers’ skills in predicting actions from video sequences of different length, depicting the hand movement in the preparation and execution of actions before and after contact with the object. We then developed a recurrent neural network based method for action prediction using as input image patches around the hand. We also used the same formalism to predict the forces on the finger tips using for training synchronized video and force data streams. Evaluations on two new datasets show that our system closely matches human performance in the recognition task, and demonstrate the ability of our algorithms to predict in real time what and how a dexterous action is performed. 相似文献

Simplified designs of milk-composition recording, based on information from a single monthly milking, adjusted or not for interval between milkings and for milk yield, were simulated and evaluated for 2553 ewe-test-day records belonging to 155 lactations of Churra dairy ewes. Accuracy of simplified methods was evaluated by comparing estimated trait values (fat, protein, casein and total solid yields) with those observed both in a reference plan, where the two daily milkings were recorded at weekly intervals (A1), and in the official A4 milk recording (monthly records of the two daily milkings). Trait yields per lactation were estimated and adjusted to the only milking period (days in milk 30-120). Estimates of milk component traits were less precise when monthly designs, including the A4 design, were compared with a weekly sampling of both a.m. and p.m. milkings, with fat yield being the most difficult trait to estimate. All options with one daily milking every month were more accurate when the corresponding plan was based on, or began with, the a.m. milking. Adjustment for the preceding interval between milkings or milk yield did not improve sampling accuracy. The design alternating a.m. and p.m. milkings every month, without adjustment, is suggested for recoding milk component traits in dairy ewes. 相似文献

Magnesium hydride is extensively examined as a hydrogen store due to its high hydrogen content and low cost. However, high thermodynamic stability and sluggish kinetics hinder its practical application. To overcome this last drawback, different Ti amounts (y = 0, 0.025, 0.05, 0.1, 0.2 and 0.3) were added to magnesium to form (1-y)MgH2+yTiH2 nanocomposites (NC) by reactive ball milling under hydrogen gas. Thermodynamic stability of the MgH2 phase in NCs was determined using a manometric Sieverts rig. Reversible hydrogen capacity and reaction kinetics were determined at 573 K over 20 sorption cycles under a limited reaction time of 15 min. On increasing Ti amount, reaction kinetics are enhanced both in absorption and desorption leading to a higher reversibility for hydrogen storage with the MgH2 phase. However, titanium increases the molar weight of NCs and forms irreversible titanium hydride. The highest reversible capacity (4.9 wt% H) was obtained for the lowest here studied TiH2 content (y = 0.025). 相似文献

Ammonia (NH3) and nitrous oxide (N-2O) emissions were measured in the field for three months from three different herbage mulches and from bare soil, used as a control. The mulches were grass with a low N-content (1.15% N in DM), grass with a high N-content (2.12% N in DM) and alfalfa with a high N-content (4.33% N in DM). NH3 volatilization was measured using a micrometeorological technique. N-2O emissions were measured using closed chambers. NH3 and N-2O emissions were found to be much higher from the N-rich mulches than from the low-N grass and bare soil, which did not differ significantly. Volatilization losses of NH3 and N-2O occurred mainly during the first month after applying the herbage and were highest from wet material shortly after a rain. The extent of NH3-N losses was difficult to estimate, due to the low frequency of measurements and some problems with the denuder technique, used on the first occasions of measurements. Nevertheless, the results indicate that NH3-N losses from herbage mulch rich in N can be substantial. Estimated losses of NH3-N ranged from the equivalent of 17% of the applied N for alfalfa to 39% for high-N grass. These losses not only represent a reduction in the fertilizer value of the mulch, but also contribute appreciably to atmospheric pollution. The estimated loss of N-2O-N during the measurement period amounted to 1% of the applied N in the N-rich materials, which is equivalent to at least 13 kg N-2O-N ha-1 lost from alfalfa and 6 kg ha-1 lost from high-N grass. These emission values greatly exceed the 0.2 kg N-2O-N ha-1 released from bare soil, and thus contribute to greenhouse gas emissions. 相似文献
