Echo is a generic ecosystem model in which evolving agents are situated in a resource-limited environment. The Echo model is described, and the behavior of Echo is evaluated on two well-studied measures of ecological diversity: relative species abundance and the species-area scaling relation. In simulation experiments, these measures are used to compare the behavior of Echo with that of a neutral model, in which selection on agent genotypes is random. These simulations show that the evolutionary component of Echo makes a significant contribution to its behavior and that Echo shows good qualitative agreement with naturally occurring species abundance distributions and species-area scaling relations.  相似文献

GM(1, 1, ????) 幂次时间项模型是灰色GM(1, 1) 模型的推广. 在灰色GM(1, 1) 模型和等间隔GM(1, 1, ????) 幂次时间项模型的基础上提出非等间隔GM(1, 1, ????) 幂次时间项模型, 并对模型进行求解. 讨论了GM(1, 1, ????) 幂次时间项模型的曲线形状、发展系数以及幂指数间的关系, 研究了非等间隔GM(1, 1, ????) 幂次时间项模型的参数空间. 将平均相对误差看成幂指数的函数, 根据序列形状判断幂指数的范围, 并利用粒子群算法求解幂指数. 实际应用验证了所提出模型的有效性.

We show that observed co-variations at sub-hourly time scales between the photochemical reflectance index (PRI) and canopy light use efficiency (LUE) over a Douglas-fir forest result directly from sub-hourly leaf reflectance changes in a 531 nm spectral window roughly 50 nm wide. We conclude then, that over a forest stand we are observing the direct effects of photosynthetic down-regulation on leaf-level reflectance at 531 nm. Key to our conclusion is our ability to simultaneously measure the LUE and reflectance of the Douglas-fir stand as a function of shadow fraction from the “hot spot” to the "dark spot"dark spot” and a new finding herein, based on radiative transfer theory, that the magnitude of a normalized reflectance difference index (NDRI) such as PRI can vary with shadow fraction only in case the reflectance of the shaded and sunlit leaves differ in at least one of the NDRI bands.Our spectrometer measurements over a nearly 6 month period show that at a forest stand scale, only two NDRIs (both containing a band near 570 nm) vary with shadow fraction and are correlated with LUE; an NDRI with a band centered at 531 nm roughly 50 nm wide, and another near 705 nm. Therefore, we are able to conclude that only these two bands' reflectance differ between the sunlit and the shaded elements of the canopy. Their reflectance changes on time scales of a few minutes or less. Our observations also show that the reflectance changes at 531 nm are more highly correlated with variations in canopy light use efficiency when only sunlit canopy elements are viewed (the hot spot), than when only shaded elements (the dark spot) are viewed. Taken together then, these results demonstrate that the observed sub-hourly changes in foliage reflectance at 531 nm and 705 nm can only result from corresponding variations in photosynthetic rates.The importance of our results are as follows: (1) We show that variations in PRI with LUE are a direct result of rapid changes in foliage reflectance at 531 nm resulting from photosynthetic down-regulation, and can be observed at forest scales. (2) Our findings also suggest a new sensor and methodology for the direct retrieval from space of changes in forest LUE by measuring PRI as a function of shadow fraction using a multi-angle spectrometer simultaneously retrieving both shadow fraction and PRI.  相似文献

Since 1989, the home ownership sector in Britain has experienced a number of changes which would have been dismissed in advance as unlikely. Falling levels of transactions, falling house prices and falling new construction have been accompanied by rising mortgage arrears, rising repossessions and the emergence of home owners with negative equity. The impact of these changes on the wider economy has also contributed to a reassessment of home ownership. This paper outlines the key changes which have affected the home ownership sector in Britain and considers whether these changes are affecting attitudes to home ownership and state intervention to sustain the tenure. It also argues that the changes have been of sufficient duration to be regarded as more than a short‐term ‘blip’ and demonstrate the need to review some accounts of the tenure.  相似文献

An instrument is demonstrated that can be used for optical detection of honeybees in a cluttered environment. The instrument uses a continuous-wave diode laser with a center wavelength of 808 nm and an output power of 28 mW as the laser transmitter source. Light scattered from moving honeybee wings will produce an intensity-modulated signal at a characteristic wing-beat frequency (170-270 Hz) that can be used to detect the honeybees against a cluttered background. The optical detection of honeybees has application in the biological detection of land mines and explosives, as was recently demonstrated.  相似文献

An in vitro antioxidant assay has been developed to better reflect the in vivo conditions of antioxidants interacting with membrane and lipid surfaces. The lipid peroxidation inhibition capacity (LPIC) method measures the ability of both lipophilic and hydrophilic antioxidants to protect a lipophilic fluorescent probe 4, 4-difluoro-5-(4-phenyl-1,3-butadienyl)-4-bora-3a,4a-diaza-s-indacene-3-undecanoic acid, incorporated in the membrane, from 2,2'-azobis(2-amidinopropane)hydrochloride generated radicals in the surrounding aqueous solution. Antioxidant activities of test compounds were measured either after they were mixed with preformed liposomes (LPIC(Mixed)) or after they were incorporated into liposomes (LPIC(Inco)) as they were made. The results were analysed to determine how the method of mixing and the structures of the antioxidants influenced their protection of the membrane from free radical attack. The LPIC(Mixed) values were larger than the LPIC(Inco) values for a range of 12 structurally diverse antioxidant compounds. However, there was no linear correlation between the lipophilicities, as measured by their partition coefficient, log P and either LPIC(Inco) or LPIC(Mixed) values. A strong correlation was found between LPIC(Inco) and LPIC(Mixed) values.  相似文献

A series of 2d-hexagonally packed mesoporous silica nanoparticle material with 10 nm pore diameter (MSN-10) covalently functionalized with organic surface modifiers have been synthesized via a post-synthesis grafting method. The material structure has been characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, electron microscopy, and nitrogen sorption analyses, and the free fatty acid (FFA) sequestration capacity and selectivity was investigated and quantified by thermogravimetric and GC/MS analysis. We discovered that aminopropyl functionalized 10 nm pore mesoporous silica nanoparticle material (AP-MSN-10) sequestered all available FFAs and left nearly all other molecules in solution from a simulated microalgal extract containing FFAs, sterols, terpenes, and triacylglycerides. We also demonstrated selective FFA sequestration from commercially available microalgal oil.  相似文献

Nanoparticle thin-film coatings applied to boiling surfaces using a layer-by-layer (LbL) assembly method demonstrated significant enhancement in the pool boiling critical heat flux (CHF) and nucleate boiling heat transfer coefficient. Up to 100% enhancement of the critical heat flux and over 100% enhancement of the heat transfer coefficient were observed for pool boiling of nickel wires coated with different thin-films of silica nanoparticles. Surface characterization revealed that the surface wettability changed drastically with the application of these coatings, while causing virtually no change in the surface roughness. It is concluded that the nanoporous structure coupled with the chemical constituency of these coatings leads to the enhanced boiling behavior.  相似文献

Efforts to limit CO2emissions from buildings in the tropics either focus on reducing energy demand, i.e., air-conditioning, or on replacing fossil with renewable sources. The link between energy demand and supply is often overlooked, especially the effect of the temperature lift of air-conditioning systems on energy consumption. But while heat and humidity gains define energy demand, operating temperatures of the system define the necessary energy input. We aim to transfer our experience of using the LowEx paradigm for heat pump systems in moderate climates to the tropical climate of Singapore. In this paper, we took a systematic overview of a range of heat sinks, to which we refer to as anergy sinks. We analysed their thermal properties and their effect on the performance of air-conditioning systems, expressed as COP. The predominantly used dry air-cooled condenser units performed worst, especially when subject to a stack effect in (semi-)confined spaces. The performance is highest for cooling towers using the wet bulb temperature followed by water body based anergy sinks and the soil. The wide spread of results confirms that the heat rejection temperature is a decisive factor for the performance of the overall cooling system and the input of primary energy.  相似文献
