New bactericidal polyamides with quaternary ammonium or phosphonium salts were prepared, and their antimicrobial activities were explored. The polyamides were synthesized by the polycondensation of diethyl‐l‐tartrate or chloromethylated diethyl‐l‐tartrate with ethylenediamine in dry absolute ethanol. The polyamides were modified to yield polymers with either quaternary ammonium or phosphonium salts. The polymers were characterized with elemental microanalysis and 1H‐NMR and IR spectra. The antimicrobial activity of the polymers bearing onium salts was studied against Gram‐negative bacteria (Escherichia coli, Pseudomones aeruginosa, Shigella sp., and Salmonella typhae), Gram‐positive bacteria (Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus cereus), and a fungus (Trichophytum rubrum) by the cut‐plug and viable‐cell‐count methods. Although all the polymers showed high antibacterial activity, some had no antifungal activity. The tributyl phosphonium salt of the polyamide was more effective against both Gram‐negative and Gram‐positive bacteria than the triethyl ammonium and triphenyl phosphonium salts of the polyamide. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Transplantation of Yoshida sarcoma (solid type) and Zajdela ascites hepatoma tumors in rats induces a biphasic change in the concentration of the following five acute-phase proteins: alpha-1-acid glycoprotein; alpha-1-antitrypsin; haptoglobin; hemopexin; and ceruloplasmin. These proteins and other plasma proteins were quantitated by two-dimensional immunoelectrophoresis relative to normal serum concentrations. The elevation of most of these acute-phase proteins was greater in the second phase, during which serum levels increased continuously as the tumor burden increased until the animals died. The increase in haptoglobin concentration during the second phase was much higher in rats bearing Yoshida sarcoma than in rats bearing Zajdela tumors. Rats receiving irradiated tumor cells showed neither tumor growth nor second-phase protein changes. Significant increases in uptake of 3H-amino acids by isolated perfused livers of tumor-bearing rats provided evidence for an increase in the hepatic synthesis rates of the acute-phase proteins. Removal of the solid tumor resulted in a gradual decrease of acute-phase protein concentrations with concomitant increase in serum albumin concentration. These alterations in serum acute-phase proteins during tumor growth and after removal of the tumor may make their use attractive as biological markers of the response of the tumor-bearing animal to its tumor.  相似文献

PROBLEM: Antibiotics are often prescribed indiscriminately to treat endodontic emergencies. OBJECTIVES: This study examined (1) the effect of penicillin supplementation on reduction of symptoms and (2) the course of recovery of localized acute apical abscess after emergency treatment. STUDY DESIGN: Patients with pulp necrosis and periapical pain and/or localized swelling were considered. Those eligible did not have any signs of spreading infections. Patients received appropriate local treatment, and a double-blind protocol was used to randomly assign them to one of three groups: penicillin VK group, placebo group, or neither medication group. All received ibuprofen 600 mg four times daily for 24 hours. Patients entered their pre- and postoperative pain and swelling experience on a visual analog scale for up to 72 hours. RESULTS: Resolution was fairly rapid in most patients. Statistical analysis of the scores of 32 respondents revealed no significant differences (at p < 0.05) between the three groups in course of recovery or symptoms at any time period. CONCLUSIONS: Patients with localized periapical pain or swelling generally recovered quickly with local treatment. The data did not show a demonstrable benefit from penicillin supplementation.  相似文献

Several substituted triazenes dyes were synthesized by coupling functionalized pyrazolidin-3,5-dione derivatives, to various heteroarene azides in excellent yields (98%). Electron delocalization between the two coupled components of these triazene dyes was studied using UV-vis spectra and NMR spectroscopy. Their thermolysis was investigated and by using an isotopically labeled triazene, the mechanism decomposition reaction was also identified. The protolysis of these triazenes was evaluated and showed that they are highly stable and even in strongly acidic medium.  相似文献

The objective of this study is to develop a new biocomposite material with high deformation ability. In this regard, the thermal, rheological, and thermophysical properties of this new composite were characterized as a function of temperature and filler concentration. High density polyethylene (HDPE) was the matrix of this new composite which was reinforced with six sawdust concentrations 0%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, and 60%. Maleic anhydride grafted polyethylene (PE‐g‐MA) was used as coupling agent. Addition of sawdust with PE‐g‐MA increased significantly the complex viscosity, the storage modulus (G′), and loss modulus (G″) of the matrix. The superposition of the complex viscosity curves using temperature dependent shift factor, allowed the construction of a viscosity master curve covering a wide range of temperatures. Arrhenius law was used for the relationship of the shift factor to temperature. Furthermore, method of Van Gurp and Palmen (tan delta vs. G*) is also used to control the time–temperature superposition. The experimental results can be well fitted with the cross rheological model which allowed the prediction of the thermorheological properties of the composites over a broad frequency range. By increasing wood concentration, both the activation energy and relaxation time for the biocomposites determined using, respectively, the Arrhenius law and the cole–cole rule increased. In this paper an attempt is made to modify a distributed genetic algorithm (DGA) to minimize the weight of steel frames. The main aspects of modifications include the twin analogy and a number of mutation schemes. Although the mutation is a secondary operator in the GA, it plays an influential role in diversifying the population and exploring more feasible design space. In this research, four different mutation schemes are examined and their effects on convergence to optimum solutions are evaluated. Using three benchmark examples, it is demonstrated that mutation operator can efficiently influence on the speed of convergence and consequently saving computation time. As coding a program is required, the DO-DGA software has been developed to handle the algorithm. DO-DGA applies modified DGA, including different mutation schemes, to obtain the global optimum solution.  相似文献

The objectives of this study were to: (1) develop a new bioactive dental bonding agent with nanoparticles of amorphous calcium phosphate and dimethylaminohexadecyl methacrylate for tooth root caries restorations and endodontic applications, and (2) investigate biofilm inhibition by the bioactive bonding agent against eight species of periodontal and endodontic pathogens for the first time. Bonding agent was formulated with 5?% of dimethylaminohexadecyl methacrylate. Nanoparticles of amorphous calcium phosphate at 30?wt% was mixed into adhesive. Eight species of biofilms were grown on resins: Porphyromonas gingivalis, Prevotella intermedia, Prevotella nigrescens, Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans, Fusobacterium nucleatum, Parvimonas micra, Enterococcus faecalis, Enterococcus faecium. Colony-forming units, live/dead assay, biomass, metabolic activity and polysaccharide of biofilms were determined. The results showed that adding dimethylaminohexadecyl methacrylate and nanoparticles of amorphous calcium phosphate into bonding agent did not decrease dentin bond strength (P?>?0.1). Adding dimethylaminohexadecyl methacrylate reduced the colony-forming units of all eight species of biofilms by nearly three orders of magnitude. The killing efficacy of dimethylaminohexadecyl methacrylate resin was: P. gingivalis?>?A. actinomycetemcomitans?>?P. intermedia?>?P. nigrescens?>?F. nucleatum?>?P. micra?>?E. faecalis?>?E. faecium. Dimethylaminohexadecyl methacrylate resin had much less biomass, metabolic activity and polysaccharide of biofilms than those without dimethylaminohexadecyl methacrylate (P?<?0.05). In conclusion, a novel dental adhesive was developed for root caries and endodontic applications, showing potent inhibition of biofilms of eight species of periodontal and endodontic pathogens, and reducing colony-forming units by three orders of magnitude. The bioactive adhesive is promising for tooth root restorations to provide subgingival margins with anti-periodontal pathogen capabilities, and for endodontic sealer applications to combat endodontic biofilms.  相似文献

High purity glasses with an average coordination number Nc in the GexSb40–xSe60 ternary system between 2.4 and 2.7, were prepared under vacuum with x = 0, 10, 20 and 30. X-ray diffraction (XRD) as, well as the Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) studies were carried out to identify the amorphous and polycrystalline structure for the Ge-Sb-Se system. The dependence of properties such as the mean atomic volume Va, the glass transition temperature Tg and the number of topological constraints Ncon were studied as a function of Nc, in the light of recent model proposed for covalent random network. The occurrence of this dependence in addition to those due to topological effects leads to the conclusion that the effects of chemical ordering and the effect, which have topological origin, coexist in this system. To understand the effect of Nc on the glass-forming capability, the number of lone-pair electrons, (NcsNc)/2, and the efficiency of the structural modification were calculated and discussed in relation to topological consideration. This then renders support to Phillipstheoretical model.  相似文献
