Computational homogenization is exploited for the analysis of transient hydro‐mechanically coupled problems subjected to quasistatic loading (consolidation) in micro‐heterogeneous porous solids. The classical approach of first‐order homogenization is adopted in the spatial domain on representative volume elements (RVE), which are introduced in quadrature points in standard fashion. Along with the classical averages, a higher order conservation quantity is obtained. An iterative FE 2‐algorithm is devised for the case of nonlinear permeability and storage coefficients, and it is applied to pore pressure changes in asphalt‐concrete (particle composite). Various parametric studies are carried out, in particular with respect to the influence of the characteristics (size, particle arrangement) of the RVE's. One of the more difficult ethical questions from a public decision-making perspective is whether the estimation of benefits from risk reducing projects should be influenced by factors such as age groups and risk domains. For example, should a project that saves the lives of elderly people be assigned a more different benefit value in cost-benefit analyses than one that saves the same number of children's lives? This paper examines the preferences of the general public in Sweden on these issues. We design a choice experiment in which subjects are required to make six pair-wise choices where the characteristics of each choice are accident type (fire and traffic), number of fatalities and serious injuries avoided, and age of those saved (5–15-, 35–45- and 65–75-year-olds). We find that avoiding the fatality of one 5–15-year-old is equivalent to avoiding 1.4 fatalities of 35–45-year-olds. Likewise, avoiding the fatality of one 5–15-year-old is equivalent to avoiding 3.3 fatalities of 65–75-year-olds. We find no significant differences between the causes of accident. One avoided fatality is found to be equivalent to around 3.5 avoided severe injuries, which is lower than the official value of 6 used by the Swedish Road Administration.  相似文献

Proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) is employed to study a time-dependent lid-driven cavity flow. Ensembles of data are compiled from transient solutions computed with different grids and Reynolds numbers. The POD bases are used to reconstruct the constituents of the ensemble. Error measures are used to evaluate the effectiveness of the method. The geometric locations of major errors and their dependency on Reynolds number are also investigated. The POD technique proves capable of capturing more than 99.7% of the kinetic energy, using the first three eigenmodes. The errors were found to be uniformly bounded, which validates the theory derived.  相似文献

Adults of the sorghum chafer, Pachnoda interrupta Olivier (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Cetoniinae), form aggregations during the mating period in July, but also in October. The beetles aggregate on food sources, e.g., Acacia spp. trees or sorghum with ripe seeds, to feed and mate. During the mating season, field trapping experiments with live beetles as bait demonstrated attraction of males to unmated females, but not to mated females or males, indicating the presence of a female-emitted sex pheromone. Unmated females combined with banana (food source) attracted significantly more males and females than did unmated females alone. Other combinations of beetles with banana were not more attractive than banana alone. Thus, aggregation behavior appears to be guided by a combination of pheromone and host volatiles. Females and males were extracted with hexane during the mating period, and the extracts were compared by using GC-MS. In a field trapping experiment, 19 compounds found only in females were tested, both singly and in a mixture. Traps baited with one of the female-associated compounds, phenylacetaldehyde, caught significantly more beetles than any other treatment. However, the sex ratio of beetles caught in these traps did not differ from that of control traps, and it is possible that other components may be involved in the sex pheromone signal. Furthermore, traps baited with a mixture of all 19 compounds attracted significantly fewer beetles than did phenylacetaldehyde alone.  相似文献

(8R)-Hydroperoxy-(9Z,12Z)-octadecadienoic acid (8-HPODE) is formed by aspergilli as an intermediate in biosynthesis of oxylipins with effects on sporulation. 8-HPODE is transformed by separate diol synthases to (5S,8R)-dihydroxy- and (8R,11S)-dihydroxy-(9Z,12Z)-octadecadienoic acids (5,8- and 8,11-DiHODE). The former is formed by the cytochrome P450 (P450) domain of 5,8-linoleate diol synthase (5,8-LDS or PpoA). Our aim was to characterize the 8,11-diol synthase of Aspergillus fumigatus, which is prominent in many strains. The 8,11-diol synthase was soluble and had a larger molecular size (>100 kDa) than most P450. Miconazole, ketoconazole, and 1-benzylimidazole, classical inhibitors of P450, reduced the biosynthesis of 8,11-DiHODE from 8-HPODE (apparent IC50 values ~0.8, ~5, and ~0.6 μM, respectively), but did not inhibit the biosynthesis of 5,8-DiHODE. Analysis of hydroperoxides of regioisomeric C18 and C20 fatty acids showed that the 8,11-diol synthase was specific for certain hydroperoxides with R configuration. The suprafacial hydrogen abstraction and oxygen insertion at C-11 of 8-HPODE was associated with a small deuterium kinetic isotope effect (H k cat/D k cat ~1.5), consistent with P450-catalyzed oxidation. The genome of A. fumigatus contains over 70 P450 sequences. The reaction mechanism, size, and solubility of 8,11-diol synthase pointed to PpoB, a homologue of 5,8-LDS, as a possible candidate of this activity. Gene deletion of ppoB of A. fumigatus strains AF:?ku80 and J272 did not inhibit biosynthesis of 8,11-DiHODE and recombinant PpoB appeared to lack diol synthase activity. We conclude that 8,11-DiHODE is formed from 8-HPODE by a soluble and substrate-specific 8,11-diol synthase with catalytic characteristics of class III P450.  相似文献

Jasmonic acid (JA) is synthesized from linolenic acid (18:3n-3) by sequential action of 13-lipoxygenase, allene oxide synthase (AOS), and allene oxide cyclase. The fungus Lasiodiplodia theobromae can produce large amounts of JA and was recently reported to form the JA precursor 12-oxophytodienoic acid. The objective of our study was to characterize the fatty acid dioxygenase activities of this fungus. Two strains of L. theobromae with low JA secretion (~0.2 mg/L medium) oxygenated 18:3n-3 to 5,8-dihydroxy-9Z,12Z,15Z-octadecatrienoic acid as well as 9R-hydroperoxy-10E,12Z,15Z-octadecatrienoic acid, which was metabolized by an AOS activity into 9-hydroxy-10-oxo-12Z,15Z-octadecadienoic acid. Analogous conversions were observed with linoleic acid (18:2n-6). Studies using [11S-2H]18:2n-6 revealed that the putative 9R-dioxygenase catalyzed stereospecific removal of the 11R hydrogen followed by suprafacial attack of dioxygen at C-9. Mycelia from these strains of L. theobromae contained 18:2n-6 as the major polyunsaturated acid but lacked 18:3n-3. A third strain with a high secretion of JA (~200 mg/L) contained 18:3n-3 as a major fatty acid and produced 5,8-dihydroxy-9Z,12Z,15Z-octadecatrienoic acid from added 18:3n-3. This strain also lacked the JA biosynthetic enzymes present in higher plants.  相似文献

This paper investigates the possibility of flow estimation using spatio-temporal encoding of the transmissions in synthetic transmit aperture imaging (STA). The spatial encoding is based on a frequency division approach. In STA, a major disadvantage is that only a single transmitter (denoting single transducer element or a virtual source) is used in every transmission. The transmitted acoustic energy will be low compared to a conventional focused transmission in which a large part of the aperture is used. By using several transmitters simultaneously, the total transmitted energy can be increased. However, to focus the data properly, the signals originating from the different transmitters must be separated. To do so, the pass band of the transducer is divided into a number of subbands with disjoint spectral support. At every transmission, each transmitter is assigned one of the subbands. In receive, the signals are separated using a simple filtering operation. To attain high axial resolution, broadband spectra must be synthesized for each of the transmitters. By multiplexing the different waveforms on different transmitters over a number of transmissions, this can be accomplished. To further increase the transmitted energy, the waveforms are designed as linear frequency modulated signals. Therefore, the full excitation amplitude can be used during most of the transmission. The method has been evaluated for blood velocity estimation for several different velocities and incident angles. The program Field II was used. A 128-element transducer with a center frequency of 7 MHz was simulated. The 64 transmitting elements were used as the transmitting aperture and 128 elements were used as the receiving aperture. Four virtual sources were created in every transmission. By beamforming lines in the flow direction, directional data were extracted and correlated. Hereby, the velocity of the blood was estimated. The pulse repetition frequency was 16 kHz. Three different setups were investigated with flow angles of 45, 60, and 75 degrees with respect to the acoustic axis. Four different velocities were simulated for each angle at 0.10, 0.25, 0.50, and 1.00 m/s. The mean relative bias with respect to the peak flow for the three angles was less than 2%, 2%, and 4%, respectively.  相似文献

The elastic and piezoelectric properties of zincblende and wurtzite crystalline InAs/InP nanowire heterostructures have been studied using electro‐elastically coupled continuum elasticity theory. A comprehensive comparison of strains, piezoelectric potentials and piezoelectric fields in the two crystal types of nanowire heterostructures is presented. For each crystal type, three different forms of heterostructures—core‐shell, axial superlattice, and quantum dot nanowire heterostructures—are considered. In the studied nanowire heterostructures, the principal strains are found to be insensitive to the change in the crystal structure. However, the shear strains in the zincblende and wurtzite nanowire heterostructures can be very different. All the studied nanowire heterostructures are found to exhibit a piezoelectric field along the nanowire axis. The piezoelectric field is in general much stronger in a wurtzite nanowire heterostructure than in its corresponding zincblende heterostructure. Our results are expected to be particularly important for analyzing and understanding the properties of epitaxially grown nanowire heterostructures and for applications in nanowire electronics, optoelectronics, and biochemical sensing.  相似文献

A risk evaluation of essential and toxic intake of trace elements has been performed by a group within the Nordic Collaboration on food questions. Six elements have been evaluated: selenium, iron, iodine, chromium, copper and magnesium and small safety margins between potentially deleterious and beneficial intakes were revealed. The risk evaluation, which will be published in early 1995, will be used as a background document in the revision of the Nordic Nutrition Recommendations.  相似文献
