A conservative finite volume approach, originally proposed by Filbet and Laurençot [2004a. Numerical simulation of the Smoluchowski coagulation equation. SIAM Journal on Scientific Computing 25(6), 2004-2048] for the one-dimensional aggregation, is extended to simulate two-component aggregation. In order to apply the finite volume scheme, we reformulate the original integro-ordinary differential population balance equation for two-component aggregation problems into a partial differential equation of hyperbolic-type. Instead of using a fully discrete finite volume scheme and equidistant discretization of internal properties variables, we propose a semidiscrete upwind formulation and a geometric grid discretization of the internal variables. The resultant ordinary differential equations (ODEs) are then solved by using a standard adaptive ODEs-solver. Several numerical test cases for the one and two-components aggregation process are considered here. The numerical results are validated against available analytical solutions. 相似文献

Mossbauer spectra of iron species in the following illites were studied: Grundite, Fithian, Minerva, and New Albany. Spectra of samples of Fithian illite heated at temperatures of 225, 700, and 1000 °C were also obtained. Analyses of these spectra provide Mössbauer parameter values of iron species in the illites and heat-transformed illite for comparison with similar species found in coals containing illites and in coal process residues derived from them. The illites contain both ferric and ferrous species. Mössbauer parameters for one of the ferric species, designated M(2), are virtually the same as those of pyrite. The two species are therefore difficult to distinguish from one another. Values of the concentration of pyrite in coals and shales may be inflated if the pyrite concentration is measured by Mössbauer spectroscopy. Mössbauer spectra of the heat-treated illite samples reveal changes in iron distribution, principally at the 700 and 1000 °C levels, where there are found three and six different iron species respectively. These changes are accompanied by reduction of ferric to ferrous iron. This process should be integrated into any assessment of the iron chemistry which accompanies coal-conversion processes. 相似文献

Easy and residue-free demolding is an everlasting topic in the plastics processing industry. Typically, facile ejection of the produced parts from the mold is provided by separation agents (silicon sprays, surface coatings). In this work, a perfluoroalkyl-based organosilane coating is applied to exchangeable substrates of an injection mold. Besides the simple application, the coating can also be restored easily in a procedure based on flame treatment. Coating and recoating are proven by contact angle measurements with water, while the anti-adhesive effect and the related relief during demolding are evaluated using a special measuring device in an instrumented two-plate injection mold. The results reveal that the organosilane layer reduces the demolding forces and the resulting static friction coefficient by 50%. Furthermore, multiple recoating significantly improves the durability of the anti-adhesive coating. Based on these findings, the easily applicable and renewable organosilane coating represents a suitable alternative to conventional release coatings. 相似文献

The chemical composition of plant surfaces plays a role in selection of host plants by herbivorous insects. Once the insect reaches the plant, these cues determine host acceptance. Laboratory studies have shown that the stem borer Busseola fusca (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), an important pest of sorghum and maize in sub-Saharan Africa, is able to differentiate between host and non-host plant species. However, no information is available on the cues used by this insect to seek and accept the host plant. Thus, the role of surface phytochemical stimuli on host selection and oviposition by B. fusca was studied in the laboratory using two host plants, sorghum, Sorghum bicolor, and maize, Zea mays, and one non-host plant, Napier grass, Pennisetum purpureum. The numbers of eggs and egg masses deposited on the three plant species were compared first under no-choice and choice conditions. In both cases, more eggs and egg masses were laid on maize and sorghum than on the non-host. Artificial surrogate stems treated with a water or chloroform surface extract of each plant were then compared with surrogate stems treated with, respectively, water or chloroform as controls, under similar conditions. Surrogate stems treated with plant water extracts did not show an increase in oviposition when compared to controls, indicating that the major compounds in these extracts, i.e., simple sugars and free amino acids, are not significantly responsible for the oviposition preference. By contrast, a chloroform extract of sorghum enhanced oviposition on the surrogate stems compared to the control, while those of maize and Napier grass showed no significant effects. Analysis of the chloroform extract of sorghum showed higher amounts of α-amyrin, ß-amyrin, and n-nonacosane compared to those of maize and Napier grass. A blend of the three chemicals significantly increased oviposition compared to the chloroform-treated control, indicating that these compounds are part of the surface chemical signature of the plant responsible for host recognition and oviposition by B. fusca. 相似文献

Nested saturation control design techniques are usually applied to derive a control law for a two-wheeled vehicle with an inverted pendulum. In presence of external disturbances, this control law may result in a catastrophic problem of finite escape time in the controlled system. This paper proposes control solutions to overcome the above problem. First, a disturbance observer is designed to estimate the external disturbances exponentially. Several coordinate transformations and partial-feedback linearization techniques are then derived to transform the vehicle’s dynamics into an upper-triangular form. Next, nested p-times differentiable saturation and backstepping techniques are combined to design a control law for the transformed system. Attractive features of our proposed control design include a large domain of attraction and simplicity of tuning control gains and the controller implementation. Fiber scaffolds of bioactive polysialic acid have been prepared via electrospinning for peripheral nerve regeneration. The diameter, morphology and alignment of fibers in scaffolds were adjusted by variation of electrospinning parameters, which are decisive for the cell-scaffold interaction. Due to the high water solubility of polysialic acid (poly-α-2,8-N-acetylneuraminic acid) a photoactive derivative (poly-α-2,8-N-pentenoylneuraminic acid) was used to obtain stable fiber scaffolds in water by photochemical crosslinking. At the optimized fiber scaffolds good cell viability and directed cell proliferation along the fibers was achieved by cell tests with immortalized Schwann cells. 相似文献

Optimization of segmented constrained layer damping with mathematical programming using strain energy analysis and modal data 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
A new method for enhancement of damping capabilities of segmented constrained layer damping material is proposed. Constrained layer damping has been extensively used since many years to damp flexural vibrations. The shear deformation occurring in the viscoelastic core is mainly responsible for the dissipation of energy. Cutting both the constraining and the constrained layer, which leads to segmentation, increases the shear deformation at that position. This phenomenon is called edge effect. A two-dimensional model of a cantilever beam has been realized for further investigations. An optimization algorithm using mathematical programming is developed in order to identify a cuts arrangement that optimizes the loss factor. The damping efficiency is estimated using the modal strain energy method. The Nelder–Mead simplex method is used to find the best distribution of cuts. In order to take into account geometrical limitations, the exterior point penalty method is used to transform the constrained objective function into an unconstrained objective function. As the optimization problem is not convex, a modal analysis is performed at each mode in order to identify initial cuts positions that lead to a global minimum. Over a large frequency range, the algorithm is able to identify a distribution of cuts that optimizes the loss factor of each mode under consideration. 相似文献

The group of conjugated fatty acids known as conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) isomers have been extensively studied with regard to their bioactive potential in treating some of the most prominent human health malignancies. However, CLA isomers are not the only group of potentially bioactive conjugated fatty acids currently undergoing study. In this regard, isomers of conjugated α‐linolenic acid, conjugated nonadecadienoic acid and conjugated eicosapentaenoic acid, to name but a few, have undergone experimental assessment. These studies have indicated many of these conjugated fatty acid isomers commonly possess anti‐carcinogenic, anti‐adipogenic, anti‐inflammatory and immune modulating properties, a number of which will be discussed in this review. The mechanisms through which these bioactivities are mediated have not yet been fully elucidated. However, existing evidence indicates that these fatty acids may play a role in modulating the expression of several oncogenes, cell cycle regulators, and genes associated with energy metabolism. Despite such bioactive potential, interest in these conjugated fatty acids has remained low relative to the CLA isomers. This may be partly attributed to the relatively recent emergence of these fatty acids as bioactives, but also due to a lack of awareness regarding sources from which they can be produced. Commercial gold nanoparticles supported on titanium dioxide (TiO2) were found to be a highly efficient catalyst for alkyne hydroamination. Terminal alkynes could easily undergo intermolecular hydroamination with low catalyst loadings (0.2 mol% Au) under solvent‐free conditions. Indoles were efficiently synthesized using microwave heating through intramolecular hydroamination.

A method to overcome the brittleness of poly (l-lactic acid) (PLLA) by kinetically trapping a continuous low Tg amorphous phase is presented. This morphology is accomplished by exploiting the significant difference in the crystallization temperatures of PLLA vs its stereocomplex with the poly (d-lactic acid) (PDLA) isomer. In our studies, the D isomer is the end block of a triblock copolymer with a configuration of the form PDLAn–Soft Blockm–PDLAn. As demonstrated in this study, when blended with PLLA, the obtained morphology, and improvement in the sample toughness and flexibility, strongly depend on the miscibility of the midblock in the triblock copolymer with the matrix PLLA. The difference in the chemical nature of the midblock clearly affected the stereocomplex crystallization between the PDLA end blocks, the PLLA matrix polymer, and the morphology formed. It is found that the miscible midblock gives rise to a soft continuous amorphous phase while in the case of an immiscible midblock, a glassy phase separated amorphous phase is formed. Dramatically different physical properties can be obtained for various PLLA/triblock copolymer blends giving access to tough, yet flexible, semicrystalline PLLA blends. 相似文献
