Our objective was to compare the economic and reproductive performance of programs combining timed artificial insemination (TAI) and different levels of AI after estrus detection (ED) using a daily Markov-chain model. A dairy herd was modeled with every cow following daily probabilistic events of aging, replacement, mortality, pregnancy, pregnancy loss, and calving. The probability of pregnancy depended on the combination of probability of insemination and conception rate (CR). All nonpregnant cows had a probability of pregnancy between the end of the voluntary waiting period and days in milk cutoff for AI. After the cutoff, cows were labeled as do not breed and replaced when milk production was below a minimum milk threshold. A similar model was created to represent a replacement heifer herd to simulate and adjust the supply and demand of replacements. The net value (NV) of a program was the sum of milk income over feed cost, replacement and mortality cost, income from newborns, and reproductive costs. The model was used to compare the NV of 19 programs. One program used 100% TAI (42% CR for first TAI and 30% for second-and-later services), whereas the other programs combined TAI with ED. The proportion of cows receiving AI after ED for the combined programs ranged from 30 to 80%, with levels of CR of 25, 30, and 35%. As the proportion of cows receiving AI after ED increased, the CR of cows receiving TAI decreased. The combined programs with CR of 35% for cows receiving AI after ED had the greatest NV and reproductive performance at all levels of ED. The program using 100% TAI had greater NV and better reproductive performance than all programs with 25% CR after ED inseminations, whereas it had very similar performance to combined programs with up to 60% of cows receiving AI after ED and 30% CR. The factor with the greatest relative contribution to the differences among programs was income over feed cost, followed by replacement and reproductive costs. Adjusting the days in milk cutoff for AI to match the supply and demand of heifer replacements improved the NV of all programs except for those with 25% CR after ED, which had either no change or a decrease in NV. In summary, the economic value of reproductive management programs combining TAI and ED depended on the proportion of cows receiving AI after ED and the resulting CR. Adjusting the heifer supply and demand increased the NV of programs with heifer surplus and decreased the NV of programs with heifer deficit.  相似文献

While there is a considerable body of literature correlating the role of dopaminergic genes and obesity, body mass index, body type, overeating, carbohydrate binging, energy expenditure and low dopamine D2 receptor (D2R) receptor density, there is a paucity of research concerning the dopamine D2 receptor gene (DRD2) variants and percent body fat. We report here the potential association of DRD2 genotypes and the percent fat phenotype. In this study we genotyped 122 obese/overweight (O/OW) Caucasian subjects and 30 non-obese Caucasian controls, screened to exclude substance abuse. The subjects were assessed for weight, body mass index (BMI; kg m(-2)) and percent body fat using dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA). The sample was separated into two independent groups; those with the Taq1 A1 allele (A1/A1 or A1/A2) and those without the A1 allele (A2/A2). The controls had a normal range of body fat (25-31% for females and 18-25% for males). The O/OW subjects had a percent body fat value of over 32% for females and over 25% for males. For the O/OW subjects, the mean BMI was 29.3 ± 6.25 kg m(-2), mean body fat was 42.1 ± 7.5% and mean weight was 82.7 ± 21.7 kg. The DRD2 Taq1 A1 allele was present in 67% of the O/OW subjects compared to 3.3% of super controls (A group), 33.3% of screened (for drug abuse and obesity) controls (B group) and unscreened literature controls 29.4% (P≤ 0.001). Comparing all cases with more than 34% body fat, utilizing logistic regression analysis, the DRD2 A1 allele accounts for 45.9% of the variance, which is statistically significant (χ(2) = 43.47, degrees of freedom (df) = 1, P < 0.0001). These results are consistent with a role for the DRD2 gene in obesity, as measured by percent body fat as well as by weight and BMI.  相似文献

Surface acoustic waves (SAW) 433 and 315 MHz, two-port resonator-based oscillators coated with a Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) thin layer of chemosensitive cadmium arachidate (CdA) provide highly sensitive chemical acoustic sensors for detection and monitoring of organic vapors, at room temperature. LB CdA film-coated silica optical fibers (SOF) have been successfully fabricated and studied for organic solvents molecules sensing applications. The sensing performance of both types of acoustic and optical transducers has been compared for detecting six molecular species. Simultaneous measurements of frequency changes (delta f) and optoelectronic signal changes (deltaV) of the LB CdA film assembled onto SAW sensors and SOF devices have been realized for organic vapors recognition purposes. Six molecular species such as ethanol, methanol, isopropanol, ethylacetate, acetone, and toluene have been identified and recognized by a specific index (deltaf/deltaV), which can be considered a characteristic property of the chemosensitive material. The discrimination of the six molecular species examined also has been obtained by chemical patterns using a couple of specific index (deltaf433/deltaV; deltaf315/deltaV) measured by combining SAW 433 or 315 MHz oscillators and SOF sensing devices. Transient responses, calibration curves, intertransducer relationships, and chemical patterns are presented and discussed.  相似文献

Two experiments were conducted to evaluate dry matter intake (DMI), milk yield, and milk composition from feeding rations that contained different sources of genetically modified whole cottonseed to Argentinean Holstein dairy cows. Twenty-four lactating multiparous Argentinean Holstein dairy cows were used in 2 experiments with a replicated 4 x 4 Latin square design, with cows averaging 565 kg body weight and 53 d in milk at the beginning of the experiments. Treatments in Experiment 1 were: Bollgard cotton containing the cry1Ac gene, Bollgard II cotton containing cry1Ac and cry2Ab genes, Roundup Ready cotton containing the cp4 epsps gene, and a control nongenetically modified but genetically similar cottonseed. In Experiment 2, two commercial sources, a parental control line, and the transgenic cotton containing both cry1Ac and cp4 epsps genes were used as treatments. All cows received the same total mixed ration but with different whole cottonseed sources. Cottonseed was included to provide 2.50 kg per cow daily (dry matter [DM] basis) or about 10% of the total diet DM. The ingredient composition of the total mixed ration was 32% alfalfa hay, 28% corn silage, 22% corn grain, 17% soybean meal, and 2% minerals and vitamins. In addition, genomic DNA was extracted from a subset of milk samples and analyzed by polymerase chain reaction followed by Southern blot hybridization for small fragments of the cry1Ac transgene and an endogenous cotton gene, acp1. No sample was positive for transgenic or plant DNA fragments at the limits of detection for the assays following detailed data evaluation criteria. The DMI, milk yield, milk composition, body weight, and body condition score did not differ among treatments. Cottonseed from genetically modified varieties used in these studies yielded similar performance in lactating dairy cows when compared to non-transgenic control and reference cottonseed.  相似文献

There is growing concern regarding the health and safety issues of endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs). Long-term exposure to EDCs has alarming adverse health effects through both hormone-direct and hormone-indirect pathways. Non-chemical agents, including physical agents such as artificial light, radiation, temperature, and stress exposure, are currently poorly investigated, even though they can seriously affect the endocrine system, by modulation of hormonal action. Several mechanisms have been suggested to explain the interference of EDCs with hormonal activity. However, difficulty in quantifying the exposure, low standardization of studies, and the presence of confounding factors do not allow the establishment of a causal relationship between endocrine disorders and exposure to specific toxic agents. In this review, we focus on recent findings on the effects of EDCs and hormone system modulators on the endocrine system, including the thyroid, parathyroid glands, adrenal steroidogenesis, beta-cell function, and male and female reproductive function.  相似文献

CW CO2 laser photosensitized (SF6) pyrolysis of tetralin proceeds mainly via dehydrogenation channel affording 1,2-dihydronaphthalene and naphthalene. Less important ring cleavage products are indene, styrene, ethylbenzene, toluene, and benzene, together with ethylene and methane. No occurrence of polyaromatics and high yields of ethylene compared to methane are the features differing this process from high temperature conventional pyrolysis.  相似文献

Autoclave manufacturing of thermoset composites is determined mainly by heat transfer phenomena. As a matter of fact, the consolidation of composite laminates takes place by the progress of the polymerization, which is activated thermally. The design and control of the autoclave process relies on the capability to manage the relationship between the temperature-pressure cycle of the heat carrier fluid and the temperature distribution through the manufacturing part. In particular, in industrial cases, the main limitations reside in the correct evaluation of the local convective heat transfer conditions through the autoclave and in the evaluation of the local thermal inertia arising from the bagging-tooling system. In this study, the autoclave manufacturing of thick laminates has been addressed by modeling the heat transport phenomena occurring through the composite, the bagging and the tooling system. A new methodology for the evaluation of the energy transfer regimes has been proposed accounting for the heat fluxes from the bag and the tool side, the temperature through-the-thickness gradients and the heat generated by the resin polymerization reaction. The proposed approach enables the prediction of the temperature history of the autoclave assembly without knowledge of the effective thermal inertia of the two external layers, which could be difficult to evaluate owing to possible deformations of the bag during the manufacturing cycle and nonuniform shape of the metallic tool along the part. Experimental data from industrial autoclave runs have been collected and analyzed to validate the method.  相似文献

A simple model for the resin flow in a pultrusion die based on the theory of lubrication has been developed. The velocity field in the pultrusion die has been calculated together with the pressure drop. A useful tool to evaluate the energy loss due to the viscosity dissipation along the die has been developed. Model results have been evaluated, by using chemorheological submodels, in terms of the contribution to the pulling force due to the viscous drag.  相似文献

In autoclave technology, polymer based composites are manufactured under the application of pressure and heat. The heat transferred between the energy carrying fluid and the bag‐composite‐tool element activates exothermic curing reactions, leading to composite consolidation. The convective heat transfer mechanism is the most relevant aspect controlling the rate of chemical and physical transformations associated with composite curing. Moreover, the fluidodynamic regime that results from the interactions between the autoclave and the tool geometry, even if totally predictable in theory, is unattainable in practice. In this study, the heat transfer phenomena occurring during the autoclave manufacturing cycle have been analyzed. The assumption of a negligible through‐the‐thickness thermal gradient led to simplified energy balance equations. In this case, the thermal evolution of the manufacturing elements has been completely determined by two parameters: the global convective heat exchange coefficient, setting the rate of the heat transfer between the autoclave environment and the bag‐composite‐tool element, and the adiabatic temperature rise, establishing the relevance of the polymerization exotherm. A scaling analysis has been performed in order to identify the dimensionless parameters controlling the autoclave process. The developed semitheoretical methodology has been extensively tested by comparison with experimental data from an industrial autoclave.  相似文献
