Some aspects of increasing the efficiency of the dissolving process in viscose preparation

Conclusions It is possible to considerably reduce the consumptiom of cooling energy in the dissolution stage (by 1.2 GJ/metric ton) and to raise the quality indices of viscose if it is prepared in continuous apparatus.Industrial testing of the method of dissolving cellulose xanthate at high shear velocity gradients has demonstrated the possibility of shortening the process time from 4 to 1.5–2 h.Translated from Khimicheskie Volokna, No. 6, pp. 18–19, November–December, 1989.     

Effect of the technological treatment on the properties of plastic oxide masses

Conclusions Grainy oxide masses plasticized by aqueous solutions of polymers can be mixed in the mixers used for preparing press powders. This method is not effective in the preparation of finely dispersed masses. The aging of the oxide masses after homogenization serves not only to build up a stock of production material but as a result of aging, the molding properties of the masses are improved and their density increased. Vacuum treatment in plastic molding technology is obligatory. The reduction in the moisture content of the masses after vacuum treatment makes it necessary to adjust the composition of the mass in relation to moisture content. By changing the length of the molding time it is possible to control the relationship between reversible and plastic types of deformation in plastic ceramic masses.Translated from Ogneupory, No. 7, pp. 49–51, July, 1981.

3D SLAM from stereoimages

A method of visual navigation by stereoimages for autonomous underwater vehicles is suggested. Two modifications of the method are considered. The first one is based on integration of measurement data of onboard navigation system with visual data. The second modification relies on the use of a six-cloud computation scheme. Results of computational experiments with model data are presented.     

Thermal conductivity of magnesite refractories in the range 500–1800°C

Conclusions An experimental setup was developed for studying the thermal conductivity of refractories up to 2300°C on the hot face of the specimen.In the average temperature range of 500–1800°C a study was made of the thermal conductivity of magnesite refractories of different porosity. The experimental data obtained satisfactorily agree with well-known literature and calculated values for the thermal conductivity coefficients.Translated from Ogneupory, No. 1, pp. 17–21, January, 1972.     

Effect of capillary condensation on water sorption by composite calcium chloride in a porous matrix sorbents

To develop a model of water sorption from air by composite salt in a porous matrix sorbents, the effect of capillary condensation was studied [1]. It was shown that, at high humidity of incoming air, it is necessary to take into account the capillary condensation of water in small pores of the matrix because the capillary condensation significantly affects the concentration and temperature profiles in the sorbent bed and leads to intense moisture accumulation at the bed inlet. The model was used to study the kinetics of water vapor sorption in a flow adsorber with a fixed bed of calcium chloride in porous aluminum oxide and calcium chloride in a porous carbon-carbon composite Sibunit sorbents.     

SmartMic: a smartphone-based meeting support system

Meetings play an important role in our daily lives. Verbal communication and social relationship development are the primary activities of meeting attendees. In this paper, we propose a meeting support system, namely SmartMic, to enhance user experiences and facilitate social interactions during meetings. SmartMic uses smartphone and readily available facilities in common meeting venues to support easy speaking and establishing new social connections. Meeting attendees in the system speak through smartphone instead of microphone and contact with each other conveniently. Preliminary experiment results show that SmartMic can facilitate the social interaction among attendees and promote the meeting productivity efficiently.
