Kinetic modeling provides chemical engineers with a unique opportunity to better understand reaction kinetics in general and the underlying chemistry in particular. How to systematically approach a modeling assignment in chemical reaction kinetics is typically less clear, especially for novices in the field. The proposed modeling methodology pursues an adequate compromise between statistical significance and physical meaning of the kinetic model and the corresponding parameters and typically results in models of an appropriate complexity. It comprises the following activities: (1) data analysis, aiming at qualitative information on the reaction mechanism and corresponding rate equations, (2) model regression to quantify this information via optimal parameter values, and (3) validation of the statistical significance and physical meaning of the parameter estimates. A tool for the generation of decomposition schemes of large molecules has been developed. These decomposition schemes contain radicals which can be eliminated from the model equations if both the μ‐hypothesis and the pseudosteady‐state approximation are valid. The reaction rate coefficients and thermodynamic parameters have been calculated by incorporating a comprehensive group additive framework. A microkinetic model for the pyrolysis of methyl esters with a carbon number of up to 19 has been generated using this tool. It is validated by comparing calculated and experimental yields of the pyrolysis of methyl decanoate and novel rapeseed methyl ester pyrolysis data in the temperature range from 800 to 1100 K and methyl ester partial pressure range from 1 × 10?3 to 1 × 10?2 MPa. The templating potential of anhydrohexitol oligonucleotides bearing ambiguous bases was studied in vivo, by using a selection screen for mosaic heteroduplex plasmids in Escherichia coli. 1,5‐Anhydro‐2,3‐dideoxy‐2‐(5‐nitroindazol‐1‐yl)‐D ‐arabino‐hexitol showed the greatest ambiguity among the three nucleosides tested. At most two successive ambiguous bases could be tolerated on hexitol templates read in bacterial cells. Hexitol nucleosides bearing simplified heterocycles thus stand as promising monomers for generating random DNA sequences in vivo from defined synthetic oligonucleotides.  相似文献

This study focused on the behavior of the paper-polypropylene-paper (PPP) laminate while aging in hot oil in the absence of voltage stress. The results provide an understanding of both the quality of the interfacial bond and the performance of this bond during service. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy performed on two different peeled laminates suggest that the bond failed primarily adhesively. Weibull statistical analysis of the peel strength data obtained on unaged laminates and those aged in polybutene oil at 90°C for 120 hours showed that the strength loss is consistent with one failure mechanism and the failure rate increases with applied stress. For the aged sample, Weibull analysis results are consistent with the prior loss of peel strength due to the aging. Experiments on the solubility of the oil show that lamination reduces the amount of absorption in comparison to the unlaminated composite. Swelling experiments on the individual components show differential swelling between the paper and polypropylene to be the source of the strength loss. The polypropylene swells, and the paper shrinks. Measurements on the laminate show that both paper and polypropylene shrink, indicating that the paper governs the laminate swelling process. During aging, the differential swelling generates internal stresses on the interface. In addition to yielding the magnitudes of these stresses, finite element analysis also predicts plastic deformation and creeping of the polypropylene as well as tensile stresses between the paper and polypropylene at a free edge. Very likely these processes damage the bond and contribute to the loss of bond strength.  相似文献

The effect of a Lewis acid addition to a coking coal on the porosity and reactivity towards steam of the resulting iron enriched coal chars are studied. GIC (FeCl3 graphite intercalation compound) or free FeCl3 are used as iron containing additives. Coal iron enrichment was performed using either directly FeCl3 in vapour phase, or by mixing of coal and additives in decaline or by common grinding of coal and additives under argon. Iron enriched coals were carbonized at 750°C (heating RATE = 5°C min) and activation made with pure steam at 800°C to a burn-off off of 50 wt%. The pore structures of coal chars before and after activation were evaluated on the basis of CO2 and C6H6 sorption at 25°C. A significant development of the microporosity is observed in the iron enriched char before activation and its steam reactivity is also increased. After activation, BET surface area values are increased in presence of iron, and porosity is mainly microporous.  相似文献

Biocomposite of bioactive glass (BG) with chitosan polymer (CH) is prepared by freeze-drying technique. Obtained material is investigated by using several physico-chemical methods. The XRD and FTIR show the interface bonding interactions between glass and polymer. The specific surface and porosity of biocomposite were determined. In vitro assays were employed to evaluate the effect of chitosan addition on the glass by studying the chemical reactivity and bioactivity of the BG and BG/CH biocomposite after soaking in a simulated body fluid (SBF). The obtained results show the formation of a bioactive hydroxycarbonate apatite (HCA) layer and highlight the bioactivity and the kinetics of chemical reactivity of bioactive glass, particularly after association with chitosan. The BG/CH biocomposite has excellent ability to form an apatite layer. Inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) highlights the negative effect of chitosan on the silicon release toward the SBF of bioactive glass when in vitro assays.  相似文献

The decomposition of bisphenol-A (BPA) in synthetic solution and in municipal effluent was investigated using an electro-oxidation process. Electrolysis was conducted using a cylindrical electrolytic cell containing two circular anodes (expanded metal) and two circular cathodes (stainless steel) alternated in the electrode pack. Different anode materials (Ti/SnO2, Ti/IrO2 and Ti/PbO2) were tested, and Ti/PbO2 was found to be the most effective electrode for BPA degradation. An experimental design methodology (23 Box–Behnken design) was applied to determine the optimal experimental conditions in terms of cost effectiveness. The BPA concentration (C 0 = 1.0 mg l−1) could be optimally diminished by up to 90% by applying a current intensity of 2.0 A for a 100-min reaction period in the presence of 250 mg Na2SO4 l−1 (used as a supporting electrolyte). Then, the optimal conditions were applied on a municipal wastewater effluent (sampled after secondary treatment) artificially contaminated with 1 mg BPA l−1 without the addition of a supporting electrolyte. The treatment was more effective with the municipal effluent due to the presence of a high concentration of chloride ions that could easily be transformed into active chlorine. BPA could be oxidized by both direct anodic electrochemical oxidation (by means of OH·) and indirect electrochemical oxidation via mediators, such as hypochlorous acid generated by chloride oxidation. Both actions (direct and indirect effects) lead to the formation of powerful oxidizing agents capable of rapidly oxidizing BPA.  相似文献

Anisotropic sintering, including shrinkage and grain growth, was examined for c-axis-oriented (Sr,Ca)2NaNb5O15 (SCNN) ceramics, which were prepared by colloidal processing under a magnetic field. In the c-axis-oriented SCNN powder compact, shrinkage and grain growth along the c-axis were higher than those along the a-axis. The anisotropic microstructural development was clearly associated with anisotropic sintering shrinkage. X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and energy back scattering diffraction showed that the grain growth of oriented particles by including random grains contribute to the development of the oriented microstructure. Finally, the highly crystal-oriented SCNN ceramics with a densified microstructure were obtained through anisotropic sintering. These results clearly showed the potential to develop a well-defined anisotropic microstructure during sintering by designing and controlling the particle packing structure in a powder compact.  相似文献
