B型导向浮阀塔板实验研究

为增大导向浮阀塔板对液体流动的推动力,在1600 mm×400 mm实验塔内,利用空气-水系统,对B型导向浮阀塔板进行实验研究。与导向浮阀塔板相比,它具有更好的流体力学性能和更大的液体负荷适用范围。实验研究和工业应用表明,B型导向浮阀塔板具有处理能力约提高20%、塔板效率约提高10%、操作弹性约提高30%等突出特点,用于蒸馏、吸收、汽提等传质过程,可获得良好效果。     

差动保护在内桥接线中的扩大应用

介绍了终端变电站一次主接线中常用的内桥接线,分析了这种内桥接线在主差动保护过程中可能出现的问题,提出了三种改进保护功能的优化接线方法,实践证明了改进后保护方式的完善性。     

Anticancer activity of lactoferrin isolated from caprine colostrum on human cancer cell lines

In the present study, lactoferrin was purified from caprine colostrum and its anticancer effects were investigated on various cancer cell lines, including lung, colon, cervix, stomach and breast cancer cells. The caprine lactoferrin (CLF) was purified by ultrafiltration and sequential chromatography using a CM-Sephadex C-50-120 ion-exchange column and affinity chromatography on Hi-Trap^TM Heparin HP. The purified CLF exhibited antiproliferative effects on the five tested cancer cell lines in a dose-dependent manner, with 20–30% survival as compared to the control. Interestingly, the most intense inhibition of cell growth was observed on the ZR-75-1 breast cancer cells (IC₅₀ = 27.5 µg/mL). Our findings suggest, for the first time, that purified CLF from caprine colostrum may constitute a novel anticancer agent for the food industry.     

EFFECTS OF PROCESSING TIME AND TEMPERATURE ON THE QUALITY COMPONENTS OF CAMPBELL GRAPE JUICE

Campbell grape juice was processed at different temperatures (60, 70, 80 and 90C) and different times (30, 45 and 60 min), and evaluated for quality components and sensorial properties. The grapes were crushed, added with enzyme, heated, and pressed; then the juice was cold stabilized, filtered and pasteurized. The samples showed an increase in pH and a decrease in titratable acidity. Sugar/acid ratio and total soluble solids increased until 80C then decreased when 90C was reached. A slight increase in L* and b* values and a decrease in a* color values were also shown. Significant differences were mostly observed between processing temperatures than between processing times. Increasing processing temperature enhances the total phenolics, total anthocyanin and total flavonoid contents, and % radical scavenging activity of the juice until 80C but declined when the temperature reached 90C. Sensory evaluation showed that the preferred time–temperature combination for processing Campbell juice is between 70 and 80C for 30–45 min.

PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS

Campbell Early ( V. labrusca B.) is one of the major table grapes in Korea and overproduction of this grape variety in Korean market calls for an alternative product in which excess grapes can be utilized. This study is focused on the determination of the effects of processing time and temperature on the quality components of Campbell grape juice. The results can be a guide to have a processing method that can be used in producing Campbell grape juice with good sensory properties and high bioactive compounds

Cobalt chloride stimulates phosphoinositide 3-kinase/Akt signaling through the epidermal growth factor receptor in oral squamous cell carcinoma

Tumor cells are often found under hypoxic conditions due to the rapid outgrowth of their vascular supply, and, in order to survive hypoxia, these cells induce numerous signaling factors. Akt is an important kinase in cell survival, and its activity is regulated by the upstream phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K) and receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs). In this study, we examined Akt activation and RTKs/PI3K/Akt signaling using the hypoxia-mimetic cobalt chloride in oral squamous carcinoma cells. Cobalt chloride increases Akt phosphorylation in both a dose- and time-dependent manner. Blocking the activation of the PI3K/Akt pathway using LY294002 abolished Akt activation in response to cobalt chloride, suggesting that Akt phosphorylation by cobalt chloride is dependent on PI3K. In addition, activation of the PI3K/Akt pathway seems to rely on the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), since the inhibition of EGFR attenuated cobalt chloride-induced Akt activation. The results in this study also demonstrate that cobalt chloride increases EGFR protein levels and induces oral squamous cell carcinoma cells to enter S phase.
