We propose radial harmonic Fourier moments, which are shifting, scaling, rotation, and intensity invariant. Compared with Chebyshev-Fourier moments, the new moments have superior performance near the origin and better ability to describe small images in terms of image-reconstruction errors and noise sensitivity. In this paper, we propose a feature-level fusion approach for improving the efficiency of palmprint identification. Multiple elliptical Gabor filters with different orientations are employed to extract the phase information on a palmprint image, which is then merged according to a fusion rule to produce a single feature called the Fusion Code. The similarity of two Fusion Codes is measured by their normalized hamming distance. A dynamic threshold is used for the final decisions. A database containing 9599 palmprint images from 488 different palms is used to validate the performance of the proposed method. The solution of Markov Decision Processes (MDPs) often relies on special properties of the processes. For two-level MDPs, the difference in the rates of state changes of the upper and lower levels has led to limiting or approximate solutions of such problems. In this paper, we solve a two-level MDP without making any assumption on the rates of state changes of the two levels. We first show that such a two-level MDP is a non-standard one where the optimal actions of different states can be related to each other. Then we give assumptions (conditions) under which such a specially constrained MDP can be solved by policy iteration. We further show that the computational effort can be reduced by decomposing the MDP. A two-level MDP with M upper-level states can be decomposed into one MDP for the upper level and M to M(M-1) MDPs for the lower level, depending on the structure of the two-level MDP. The upper-level MDP is solved by time aggregation, a technique introduced in a recent paper [Cao, X.-R., Ren, Z. Y., Bhatnagar, S., Fu, M., & Marcus, S. (2002). In this paper a three stage procedure is presented for deriving parameters bounds of SISO Wiener models when the nonlinear block is modeled by a possibly noninvertible polynomial and the output measurement errors are bounded. First, using steady-state input-output data, parameters of the nonlinear part are bounded by a tight orthotope. Then, given the estimated uncertain nonlinearity and the output measurements collected exciting the system with an input dynamic signal, bounds on the unmeasurable inner signal are computed. This paper provides several stability tests for piecewise linear systems and proposes a method of stabilization for bimodal systems. In particular, we derive an explicit and exact stability test for planar systems, which is given in terms of coefficients of transfer functions of subsystems. Restricting attention to the bimodal and planar case, we show simple stability tests. In addition, we drive a necessary stability condition and a sufficient stability condition for higher-order and bimodal systems. They are given in terms of the eigenvalue loci and the observability of subsystems. All the stability tests provided in this paper are computationally tractable, and our results are applied to the stabilizability problem. The spiral fashion is an important kind of embroidery fashion. In the spiral fashion embroidery, a user-designed region is embroidered with a thread along a uniform spiral path whose shape is similar to the region's contours. An approach which can automatically generate this kind of embroidery path is proposed in this paper. In this approach, the region is decomposed into several ring-shaped sub-regions at first. This article considers the way in which control of interaction emerges as a function of personal agency and external factors in a group of students engaged in online asynchronous text-based communication in a distance education program. It is structured around the argument that control is partly related to the power that individuals have to give effect to their wishes, but also acknowledges that this sense of agency is always in relation to the powers of others and more structural constraints. A picture emerges of the choices students make in deciding when to initiate discussion and respond to others, and about decisions concerning whose messages they would read and when. The impact of other students, of online groups, and instructors seems to play an important role in determining how participants participate in online interaction. Consideration of broader issues shows how the context in which students engage in interaction impacts the nature and extent of that interaction. The article concludes that being aware, and taking advantage of the socially grounded nature of online interaction provides the basis from which educators can act to ensure that interaction in online learning communities is enabling for the learning of all students. 相似文献

The paper presents some results on global exponential stability of linear time invariant systems with different time scales. The full system is decomposed in two reduced ones by means of singular perturbations and a smooth approximation of a Variable Structure Control is synthesized for each of them using Reaching Law approach. The global closed loop stability is then proved for the whole system using Lyapunov methods and a particular state space decomposition.
