Food processing is among the greatest water-consuming industries with a significant role in the implementation of sustainable development goals. Water-consuming industries such as food processing have become a threat to limited freshwater resources, and numerous attempts are being carried out in order to develop and apply novel approaches for water management in these industries. Studies have shown the positive impact of the new methods of process integration (e.g., water pinch, mathematical optimization, etc.) in maximizing water reuse and recycle. Applying these methods in food processing industries not only significantly supported water consumption minimization but also contributed to environmental protection by reducing wastewater generation. The methods can also increase the productivity of these industries and direct them to sustainable production. This interconnection led to a new subcategory in nexus studies known as water-food-environment nexus. The nexus assures sustainable food production with minimum freshwater consumption and minimizes the environmental destructions caused by untreated wastewater discharge. The aim of this study was to provide a thorough review of water-food-environment nexus application in food processing industries and explore the nexus from different aspects. The current study explored the process of food industries in different sectors regarding water consumption and wastewater generation, both qualitatively and quantitatively. The most recent wastewater treatment methods carried out in different food processing sectors were also reviewed. This review provided a comprehensive literature for choosing the optimum scenario of water and wastewater management in food processing industries.  相似文献

Rapid growth of wind power generation in many countries around the world in recent years has highlighted the importance of wind power prediction. However, wind power is a complex signal for modeling and forecasting. Despite the performed research works in the area, more efficient wind power forecast methods are still demanded. In this paper, a new prediction strategy is proposed for this purpose. The forecast engine of the proposed strategy is a ridgelet neural network (RNN) owning ridge functions as the activation functions of its hidden nodes. Moreover, a new differential evolution algorithm with novel crossover operator and selection mechanism is presented to train the RNN. The efficiency of the proposed prediction strategy is shown for forecasting of both wind power output of wind farms and aggregated wind generation of power systems.  相似文献

The performance of a multi-slit Integrated Micro Packed Bed Reactor-Heat Exchanger (IMPBRHE) for methanol synthesis from synthesis gas over Cu/ZnO/support commercial catalyst was experimentally investigated from a reaction engineering perspective. Through establishment of a systematic comparison strategy, performance comparison with a laboratory scale tubular Fixed-Bed Reactor (FBR) with three different dilution ratios was made to evaluate the IMPBRHE. The productivity, thermal behavior, activity of body materials, pressure drop and residence time distribution (RTD) of the two reactor types were investigated. The IMPBRHE outperformed the undiluted FBR and gave CO conversions comparable to the diluted FBRs. The main difference is ascribed to superior heat exchange properties of the IMPBRHE, which can improve reactor performance for an exothermic reaction such as methanol synthesis. The results reveal advantages of the IMPBRHE for robust scale up.  相似文献

Recycled PP contains various impurities and has poor and variable mechanical properties compared to virgin PP. This, in general, rules out the use of recycled PP in the original applications and in other high-value applications. Hence, this study investigated the effects of polymer matrix type, weight fraction of wood flour and organoclay on the thickness swelling and water absorption behavior of PP based hybrid composites. WPCs based on polypropylene (virgin and recycled), wood flour, organoclay and maleated polypropylene (MAPP) were made using melt compounding and subsequent injection molding. Composites made from recycled polypropylene (rPP) exhibited better dimensional stability compared to the virgin (vPP) based ones. Besides, wood flour did not completely encapsulate in the polymer matrix at 50 % weight fraction. Incorporation of nanoclay exhibited a beneficial effect on both the water absorption and thickness swelling by creating a tortuous path as a result of its characteristic barrier property. The improvements in hygroscopic characteristics of hybrid composites using rPP and nanoclay were further supported by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction methods. Conclusively, PP recycled from post-consumer applications can be used in value-added composites without accepting the expense of separating out impurities from the polymer.  相似文献

A simple, template-free and scalable modified sol-gel route was developed for the synthesis of mesoporous flake-like magnesium aluminate spinel (MgAl2O4) at low temperature (700 °C) with high surface area (281 m2 g?1). The obtained spinel materials were characterized by means of physicochemical techniques including X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and N2 adsorption-desorption analysis. The propylene oxide was used as gelation and pore forming agent in the sol-gel process. Different morphologies and sizes of flake were generated by the varied synthesis conditions. The result materials reveal that the textural properties of the MgAl2O4 product are strongly associated with the nature and amount of addictive solvent and calcination temperatures. It shows that the BET surface area decrease as the increase of calcination temperature and the optimal temperature of 700 °C result in the pure phase of MgAl2O4 spinel. This synthesis strategy offers a feasible approach for scalable fabrication of mixed metal oxides for various catalytic reactions or catalyst supports due to the large surface area.  相似文献

The discovery of new eutectic phase change materials (PCMs) will overcome the current PCM challenges such as nonbiodegradability, super‐cooling, and limited thermal stability. This paper reports on the development of new bio‐based PCMs composed of binary mixtures of fatty acid esters and fatty alcohols at their eutectic compositions, which provide potential solid‐liquid PCMs for building applications. Six binary systems, namely 1‐dodecanol (DD) + methyl stearate (MES), DD + methyl palmitate (MEP), DD + methyl laurate (MEL), 1‐tetradecanol (TD) + MES, TD + MEP, and TD + MEL were prepared and their thermal behaviours were deliberated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), long‐term thermal stability test, and mass loss analysis. Amongst the studied systems, phase change transition temperature and latent heat of fusion of the eutectic mixtures of DD‐MES, DD‐MEP, TD‐MES, and TD‐MEP were found to be suitable for the building application with values of 22.46°C/201.91 J/g, 20.34°C/224.45 J/g, 32.05°C/209.38 J/g, and 26.72°C/210.15 J/g, respectively. The average degree of super‐cooling for all PCMs was below 2°C, and no significant changes in thermophysical properties of the developed PCMs were observed after 1000 thermal cycles.  相似文献

Injectable bioactive glass-based pastes represent promising biomaterials to fill small bone defects thus improving and speed up the self-healing process. Accordingly, injectable nanocomposite pastes based on bioactive glass-gelatin-3-glycidyloxypropyl trimethoxysilane (GPTMS) were here synthesized via two different glasses 64SiO2. 27CaO. 4MgO. 5P2O5 (mol.%) and 64SiO2.31CaO. 5P2O5 (mol.%). In particular, the effects of MgO on bioactivity, rheology, injectability, disintegration resistance, compressive strength and cellular behaviors were investigated. The results showed that the disintegration resistance and compressive strength of the composite were improved by the replacement of MgO; thus, leading to an increase in the amount of storage modulus (G′) from 26800 to 43400 Pa, equal to an increase in the viscosity of the paste from 136 × 103 to 219 × 103 Pa s. Since the release rate of ions became more controllable, the formation of calcite was decreased after immersion of the Mg bearing samples in the SBF solution. Specimens’ cytocompatibility was firstly verified towards human osteoblasts by metabolic assay as well as visually confirmed by the fluorescent live/dead staining; finally, the ability of human fibroblasts to penetrate within the pores of 3D composites was verified by a migration assay simulating the devices repopulation upon injection in the injured site.  相似文献

In this paper, a new non-intrusive driver drowsiness detection method is introduced based on respiration analysis using facial thermal imaging. Drowsiness is the cause of many driving accidents all over the world. Drivers’ respiration system undergoes significant changes from wakefulness to drowsiness and can be used to detect drowsiness. Current respiration measurement methods are intrusive and uncomfortable making respiration the least measured vital sign during driving. In this paper, a new method is presented based on facial thermal imaging to analyze drivers’ respiration signal non-intrusively. Thirty subjects are tested in a car simulator. They are fully awake at the beginning and experience drowsiness during the tests. The mean and the standard deviation of the respiration rate and the inspiration-to-expiration time ratio are extracted from the subjects’ respiration signal. To detect drowsiness, the Support Vector Machine (SVM) and the K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN) classifiers are used. The Observer Rating of Drowsiness method is used for scoring the drowsiness level and validating the proposed method. The performance and the results of both methods are presented and compared. The results indicate that drowsiness can be detected with the accuracy of 90%, sensitivity of 92%, specificity of 85%, and precision of 91%.

This article describes the design and synthesis of a new series of hydrogel membranes composed of trialkyne derivatives of glycerol ethoxylate and bisphenol A diazide (BA‐diazide) or diazide‐terminated PEG600 monomer via a Cu(I)‐catalyzed photoclick reaction. The water‐swollen hydrogel membranes display thermoresponsive actuation and their lower critical solution temperature (LCST) values are determined by differential scanning calorimetry. Glycerol ethoxylate moiety serves as the thermoresponsive component and hydrophilic part, while the azide‐based component acts as the hydrophobic comonomer and most likely provides a critical hydrophobic/hydrophilic balance contributing also to the significant mechanical strength of the membranes. These hydrogels exhibit a reversible shape‐memory effect in response to temperature through a defined phase transition. The swelling and deswelling behavior of the membranes are systematically examined. Due to the click nature of the reaction, easy availability of azide and alkyne functional‐monomers, and the polymer architecture, the glass transition temperature (Tg) is easily controlled through monomer design and crosslink density by varying the feed ratio of different monomers. The mechanical properties of the membranes are studied by universal tensile testing measurements. Moreover, the hydrogels show the ability to absorb a dye and release it in a controlled manner by applying heat below and above the LCST.  相似文献
