With the aid of multiple wire drawing passes, the magnesium alloys ZEK100, MgCa0.8, and AL36 were reduced to monofilament wires possessing diameters between 0.5 and 0.1 mm. These filaments were subsequently twisted into poly‐filament suture material using stranding. In order to analyze the microstructural constituents and the mechanical‐tribological properties, metallographic specimens were prepared and tensile tests were performed on both monofilament as well as poly‐filament wire strands. Appropriate parameters were ascertained for the wire drawing process with regard to forming rate, temperature, and heat treatment. During the investigations, the alloy ZEK100 exhibited particularly interesting mechanical properties which, owing to its high tensile strengths (up to 550 MPa for monofilament) and fracture strains (up to 30% for poly‐filament), are comparable to those of conventional polymer‐based suture materials. In addition to this, integrating a core (internal, individual wire) into the poly‐filament mesh of wire strands represents an interesting alternative for future research in which structures composed of different materials, and the advantages of combining their properties are brought into particular focus.  相似文献

The research on the development and characterization of potential magnesium biomaterials is a steadily expanding. Commonly, implants present a high risk of infection for their recipients. For this reason, a pre‐operative sterilizing process is required. Due to the temperatures and media which are used while sterilizing, effects may occur which cause a change in the mechanical strength of certain magnesium alloys. Four commonly used sterilization methods (autoclave sterilization, dry heat sterilization, gamma sterilization and ethylene oxide sterilization) were investigated to gain information about their influences on the quasi‐static mechanical behavior of LAE442 (Mg 90 m.%, Li 4 m.%, Al 4 m.%, RE 2 m.%), MgCa0.8 (Mg 99.2 m.%, Ca 0.8 m.%) magnesium alloys as well as pure magnesium. The mechanical properties exhibited by the sterilized and non‐sterilized alloys refer to susceptibilities of the mechanical strengths to the investigated sterilization methods. Such susceptibilities appear to be dependent on the combination of alloy and method of sterilization. However, the maximum changes in mechanical strength appear in the range of ±10%. Within this study, ETO sterilization caused the least changes in the mechanical strength of the alloys and appears to be the best performer.  相似文献

This paper presents results of an experimental investigation on detonation wave propagation in semi-confined geometries. Large scale experiments were performed in layers up to 0.6 m filled with uniform and non-uniform hydrogen–air mixtures in a rectangular channel (width 3 m; length 9 m) which is open from below. A semi confined driver section is used to accelerate hydrogen flames from weak ignition to detonation. The detonation propagation was observed in a 7 m long unobstructed part of the channel. Pressure measurements, ionization probes, soot-records and high speed imaging were used to observe the detonation propagation. Critical conditions for detonation propagation in different layer thicknesses are presented for uniform H2/air-mixtures, as well as experiments with uniform H2/O2 mixtures in a down scaled transparent channel. Finally detail investigations on the detonation wave propagation in H2/air-mixtures with concentration gradients are shown.  相似文献

A quick result whether a newly developed cosmetic water-in-oil (W/O)-emulsion shows constant sensory behavior (stable) or whether it changes its behavior over time (instable) is an important aspect in cosmetic research. In order to observe changes as quickly as possible, analytic methods are used. An established method is rheology, a sensitive method that gives direct information on sensory aspects. Additional information concerning the kind of instability allows a more focused improvement of formulation in the case of instabilities. In order to gain this information, an additional analytic method with a more ingredient specific focus is needed. In this article, the possibilities of using dielectric spectroscopy in order to get additional information are discussed. For concentrated W/O-emulsions a dependence of emulsion behavior from volume median droplet diameter d(v50) is visible by both methods: rheology and dielectric spectroscopy. A variation of droplet size distribution at constant volume median droplet diameter d(v50) does not change the results for the examined emulsions. Quantitative information about mean droplet size is possible with calibration. Because of their different physical forci, rheology and dielectric spectroscopy complement each other in high-sensitive detection of coalescence. In contrast to the mechanical properties of W/O-emulsion, dielectric spectroscopy gives additional information concerning some reasons of change in emulsion structure. Mechanism like sedimentation and coalescence can be distinguished and the phase where changes take place (oil phase or water phase) can be located. The latter is possible by a new parameter - the correlation between maximum of dielectric loss epsilon'(f(R)) and the relaxation frequency f(R). Their correlation can be described by a simple power law. By coupling rheology and dielectric spectroscopy, an improvement in fast emulsion development and production control may be achieved without losing the advantage of a quick and easy measurement procedure.  相似文献

In this study a comprehensive analysis of toxin production of food associated coagulase-negative staphylococci (CNS) was investigated. The strains belong to the following staphylococcal species, Staphylococcus carnosus, Staphylococcus condimenti, Staphylococcus equorum, Staphylococcus piscifermentans, Staphylococcus succinus, and Staphylococcus xylosus, which were isolated from fermented food and starter cultures. A collection of 330 strains were analyzed with respect to their hemolytic activity. 59% of the strains exhibited weak to moderate hemolytic activity with human blood and 34% with sheep blood after 48 h incubation. A selection of 35 strains were tested by immunoblot analysis for their ability to produce toxins, such as the most common staphylococcal enterotoxins (SEs), the toxic shock syndrome toxin 1 (TSST-1), and the exfoliative toxin A (ETA). 18 of the 35 strains produced at least one of the toxins with the SED and SEH being the most common. These indicate that the use of CNS in food production demands a safety evaluation.  相似文献

High hydrostatic pressure can be used for gentle pasteurization of food as well as a physical parameter to study the stability and energetics of biomolecules. High pressure has been recently postulated as a feasible technology to decontaminate scrapie infectious materials. Here we discuss the kinetic parameters driving the inactivation of the Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathy agents and the perspectives of pressure as a thermodynamic parameter to obtain a deeper insight into the aggregation of the 263K strain of scrapie. At 60–80 °C an efficient pressure inactivation of infectious scrapie prions was observed during short pressure treatments at 800 MPa (3 × 5 min cycles). However, discrepancies between in vivo infectivity counts and the results of an enzyme immunoassay further revealed that the infectivity was inactivated faster and much more efficiently than PrPres was degraded, indicating that pressure affects a highly infectious subpopulation of scrapie prions.

Industrial relevance

Conventional inactivation methods for the agents of the Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies are not compatible with food processing due to the required aggressive conditions. High pressure assisted thermal sterilization methods are nowadays attracting attention as a food preservation technology able to preserve quality attributes. Here the stark effects in the secondary prion structure of high pressure combined with heat below the usual denaturing conditions were investigated with specific tests. This technology was proven to be a feasible alternative to achieve the decontamination of TSE risk materials at milder conditions. Kinetic data provided here should be useful to establish criteria to inactivate prions under pressure.  相似文献

Patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) are known to have increased antibodies to several food and bacterial antigens. To assess selected isotype contributions in greater detail, we examined the concentrations of IgA, IgG, IgE, and IgG4 antibodies to five selected antigens, two of bacterial and three of food origin. Thirty patients with IBD and thirty matched healthy controls were studied. Most antibodies were increased in IBD patients compared to controls. Statistically significant increases were more frequent in Crohn's disease (CD) than in ulcerative colitis (UC). An unexpected finding was that IBD patients treated with sulfasalazine had statistically higher levels of most IgA antibodies than healthy controls, while steroid treated patients had lower levels. These findings suggest differing effects on the immune systems of IBD patients by each of these commonly used drugs.  相似文献
