Hammurabi is a software application designed to help the UNIX system administrator to evaluate better the consequences of the actions he/she carries out, in order to maintain the system and to make it change. In this paper, we describe the implementation of Hammurabi's inference engine. This engine is a multiactor Prolog-like engine. The actors have, on the one hand, the ability to spy the events occurring inside the whole machine (inside the engine, and inside the UNIX OS), and on the other hand, the ability to forbid or to freeze some events. This ability is used as a synchronization mechanism. In the first part of this paper, we describe the data representation. Nowadays microfabrication techniques originating from micro-electro nics enable to create mechanical objects of micron-size.
The field of Micro-Electro-Mechanical devices (MEMs) is continuously expanding, with an amazingly broad range of applications
at room temperature.
Vibrating objects (torsional oscillators, vibrating wires) widely used at low temperatures to study quantum fluids, can be
replaced advantageously by Silicon MEMs. In this letter we report on the study of Silicon vibrating wire devices. A goal-post
structure covered with a metal layer is driven at resonance by the Laplace force acting on a current in a magnetic field,
while the induced voltage arising from the cut magnetic flux allows to detect the motion. The characteristics of the resonance
have been studied from 10 mK to 30 K, in vacuum and in 4He gas. In this article, we focus on the results obtained above 1.5 K, in vacuum and gas, and introduce some features observed
at lower temperatures.
The resonant properties can be quantitatively understood by means of simple models, from the linear regime to a highly non-linear
response at strong drives. We demonstrate that the non-linearity is mostly due to the geometry of the vibrators. We also show
that in our device the friction mechanisms originate in the metallic layers, and can be fully characterized. The interaction
with 4He gas is fit to theory without adjustable parameters.

In the precision glass moulding process, the heat transfer and the resulting transient temperature distributions of the molten glass are of great importance because they significantly affect the productivity as well as the thermally induced residual stresses in the final product. Thermal modelling of the heating system in the glass moulding process considering detailed heating mechanisms therefore plays an important part in optimizing the heating system and the subsequent pressing stage in the lens manufacturing process.The current paper deals with three-dimensional transient thermal modelling of the multi-stage heating system in a wafer based glass moulding process. In order to investigate the importance of the radiation from the interior and surface of the glass, a simple finite volume code is developed to model one dimensional radiation–conduction heat transfer in the glass wafer for an extreme case with very high temperature difference considering temperature dependant thermal conductivity and heat capacity. Afterwards, by using three-dimensional FEM modelling along with a predefined experimental test, the equivalent glass–mould interface contact resistance is determined for two different pressures. Finally, the three-dimensional modelling of the multi-stage heating system in the wafer based glass moulding process is simulated with the FEM software ABAQUS for a particular industrial application for mobile phone camera lenses to obtain the temperature distribution in the glass wafer. In the numerical modelling, the interface boundary conditions for each heating stage are changed according to the determining heat transfer mechanism(s). Numerical results are compared with experimental data to show the validity of the numerical modelling. The obtained results show that the right thermal modelling is highly dependent on the proper choice of thermal boundary conditions in different stages according to the real physical phenomena behind the process. 相似文献

BACKGROUND: Dry beans (Phaseolus vulgaris) have a range of varieties, colours and sizes. Differences in physicochemical and sensory properties influence consumer choices for beans. This study related consumer preferences to sensory and physico‐chemical properties of selected bean varieties—Jenny, Kranskop, PAN 148, AC Calmont, PAN 150 and Mkuzi—grown in Mpumalanga (MP) and Free State (FS) in South Africa. RESULTS: Significant (P < 0.05) variety, location as well as location × variety interaction effects were found for both physico‐chemical and sensory properties of beans. Jenny‐FS, Mkuzi and PAN 148‐MP beans had relatively long cooking times (>60 min). Some beans (e.g. PAN 150 and Mkuzi beans) were described as bitter, soapy and metallic with a raw‐bean flavour whereas more preferred beans (e.g. Jenny‐MP, Kranskop‐MP) were sweet, soft and with a cooked‐bean flavour. CONCLUSION Apart from small seed size, sensory characteristics such as bitter taste, soapy and metallic mouthfeel and hard texture contributed to consumers' dislike of certain bean varieties. The sweet taste, cooked‐bean flavours, soft and mushy textures of the most accepted varieties seemed to be related to beans with good hydration capacities that facilitated softening during cooking. The effect of seismic excitation and multiplicative noise (arising from environmental fluctuations) on the stability of a
single degree of freedom system with distributed delays are investigated. The system is modelled in the form of a stochastic
integro-differential equation interpreted in Stratonovich sense. Both deterministic stability and stochastic moment stability
are examined for the system in the absence of seismic excitation. The model is also extended to incorporate effects of symmetric
nonlinearity. The simulation of stochastic linear and nonlinear systems is carried out by resorting to numerical techniques
for the solution of stochastic differential equations.

Processes involving particles, are known to exhibit extremely unpredictable behaviour, mainly due to the mesoscopic nature of granular media. Understanding particulate processes, not only for intellectual satisfaction, but also for process design and operation, basically requires a systems approach in modelling. Because they combine simplicity and flexibility, the stochastic models based on the Markov chain theory are very valuable mathematical tools to this respect. However, they are still largely ignored by the whole core of chemical engineering researchers. Previously we described the construction and properties of a rapid yeast bioassay stably expressing human estrogen receptor alpha (hERalpha) and yeast enhanced green fluorescent protein (yEGFP), the latter in response to estrogens. In the present study this yeast estrogen assay was validated as a qualitative screening method for the determination of estrogenic activity in animal feed. This validation was performed according to EC Decision 2002/657. Twenty blank animal feed samples, including milk replacers and wet and dry feed samples, were spiked with 17beta-estradiol (E2beta) at 5 ng g(-1), 17alpha-ethynylestradiol (EE2) at 5 ng g(-1), diethylstilbestrol (DES) at 10 ng g(-1), zearalenone at 1.25 microg g(-1) or equal at 200 microg g(-1). All of these blank and low estrogen spiked feed samples fulfilled the CCalpha and CCbeta criterions, meaning that all 20 blank feed samples gave a signal below the determined decision limit CCalpha and were thus classified as compliant, and at least 19 out of the 20 spiked samples gave a signal above this CCalpha (beta = 5%) and were thus classified as suspect. The method was specific and estrogens in feed were stable for up to 98 days. In this study we also present long-term performance data and several examples of estrogens found in the routine screening of animal feed. This is the first successful example of a developed, validated and applied bioassay for the screening of hormonal substances in feed. 相似文献
