Navigation through large microscopical images demands special characteristics like flexibility to access image data and progressive recovery or relevant information, i.e., several qualities, magnifications, and random accesses to any desired Window of Interest in the Virtual Slide (VS). Nowadays there exist systems that allow such interaction, but with a certain delay, which is dependent on the application. It has been shown that caching or prefetching policies can speed up interaction with these systems. This article presents an optimal soft‐cache strategy, which improves the navigation times in virtual microscopy. The entire method includes an optimal soft‐cache strategy and a dynamical probabilistic model of a pathologist's navigation. This strategy was implemented as a Client‐Server application, using the JPEG2000‐JPIP standard and evaluated using different navigation patterns, namely, four different pathologists exploring 10 VS, stained with different dyes. Nowadays, the application of Web mining techniques in e-learning and Web-based adaptive educational systems is increasing exponentially. In this paper, we propose an advanced architecture for a personalization system to facilitate Web mining. A specific Web mining tool is developed and a recommender engine is integrated into the AHA! system in order to help the instructor to carry out the whole Web mining process. Our objective is to be able to recommend to a student the most appropriate links/Web pages within the AHA! system to visit next. Several experiments are carried out with real data provided by Eindhoven University of Technology students in order to test both the architecture proposed and the algorithms used. Finally, we have also described the meaning of several recommendations, starting from the rules discovered by the Web mining algorithms.  相似文献

In this paper we describe how three simple observations can be used in order to obtain an efficient algorithm for the computer analysis of ideal switched-capacitor circuits. the resulting algorithm is linear in the number of phases. the first observation uses the structure of the r-domain MNA-matrix to come up with a new LU-decomposition scheme which is gradual per timeslot. the second observation allows a great reduction in size of the z-domain MNA-matrix by a matrix compaction algorithm which also operates gradually per timeslot and which can be interleaved with the first gradual LU-decomposition process. This leads to a small matrix which can then be used for a time- and direct frequency-domain analysis. Third, the computations of transfer functions, aliasing functions and sensitivities can be optimized by applying appropriate excitations and making appropriate combinations of the terms in the expressions. These algorithms have been implemented in the SC-analysis program DIANA.SC. the usefulness and efficiency of the program is then illustrated with some examples.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: The Institute of Medicine's 2001 report on quality delimits six dimensions of optimal care: safety, effectiveness, efficiency, timeliness, patient centeredness, and equity. In fall 2001 parents of pediatric cancer patients were interviewed to determine how well they thought these dimensions were addressed with respect to medication administration. Immediate goals were to identify system weaknesses and devise strategies to prevent future errors. A higher-order goal was to develop and demonstrate a model protocol for rapid-cycle interview assessments. METHODS: Hematology/oncology directors worked with a research expert to develop a semistructured interview protocol. After training, which included directed reading, oral instruction, and role-playing, a convenience sample of 20 English- and Spanish-speaking parents of inpatients was recruited. Parents were asked to characterize current medication administration practices and to describe problems that they had experienced or witnessed. Rapid content analysis techniques were used to identify issues of importance to the parents. FINDINGS: Parents' medication concerns centered on their children's comfort. Parents called for communication improvements, standardization of all nursing procedures and techniques, and a guide or an outline providing a clear understanding of what to expect when and from whom. Viewing these concerns in relation to the Institute of Medicine's quality domains allowed the department to frame an improvement action plan aligned with organizational and national priorities. IMPLICATIONS: With good supervision and limited focused training, inexperienced staff can successfully administer semistructured qualitative interviews and help analyze findings for rapid cycle improvement purposes. The protocol can be adapted for use in organizations interested in rapid qualitative assessments of patient and parent preferences.  相似文献

We report on cw tunable green laser light generation from a Nd:YVO4 laser operating at 1342 nm. Visible radiation was produced by a frequency mixing of pump and laser radiation inside an intracavity KTP crystal. When Nd:YVO4 was diode pumped, green laser was tunable from 503 to 505 nm. The green tuning range increases up to 22 nm when a Ti:sapphire laser is used as the pump source. In nonoptimal conditions, and for a pump power of 650 mW, green power was above 3 mW and close to 0.1 mW for Ti:sapphire and diode pumping, respectively.  相似文献

We present the first sensing system for metal ions based on the combination of separation/preconcentration by a permeation liquid membrane (PLM) and fluorescence detection with an optical fiber. As a model, a system for the detection of Cu(II) ions was developed. The wall of a polypropylene hollow fiber serves as support for the permeable liquid membrane. The lumen of the fiber contains the strip solution in which Cu(II) is accumulated. Calcein, a fluorochromic dye, acts as stripping agent and at the same time as metal indicator. The quenching of the calcein fluorescence upon metal accumulation in the strip phase is detected with a multimode optical fiber, which is incorporated into the lumen. Fluorescence is excited with a blue LED and detected with a photon counter. Taking advantage of the high selectivity and sensitivity of PLM preconcentration, a detection limit for Cu(II) of approximately 50 nM was achieved. Among five tested heavy metal ions, Pb(II) was the only major interfering species. The incorporation of small silica optical fibers into the polypropylene capillary allows for real-time monitoring of the Cu(II) accumulation process.  相似文献

This paper summarises the experience gained by the Ciemat External Dosimetry Service (EDS) in the environmental dosimetry intercomparisons organised by the US Department of Energy. During the three latest intercomparisons. important dosimetry aspects such as energy calibration, energy response, dosimetric quantities and signal stability have been tested by the Ciemat EDS on up to seven different thermoluminescent (TL) materials, including hypersensitive phosphors, and employing several dosimetric systems. In last year's intercomparison, in addition to TL dosemeters the Ciemat EDS sent a set of silicon diode active dosemeters, usually used as personal dosemeters, to be tested in environmental conditions without intervention for more than 3 months. All the results obtained from different dosemeters have undergone an exhaustive analysis process in order to find some conclusions that may help to increase the knowledge of field performance of these devices in real but controlled environmental conditions.  相似文献

We present an overview of two of our ongoing projects relating processes in the hippocampus to memory. We are trying to understand why retrograde amnesia occurs after damage to the hippocampus. Our experiments establish the generality of several new retrograde amnesia phenomena that are at odds with the consensus view of the role of the hippocampus in memory. We show in many memory tasks that complete damage to the hippocampus produces retrograde amnesia that is equivalent for recent and remote memories. Retrograde amnesia affects a much wider range of memory tasks than anterograde amnesia. Normal hippocampal processes can interfere with retention of a long-term memory stored outside the hippocampus. We conclude that the hippocampus competes with nonhippocampal systems during memory encoding and retrieval. Finally, we outline a project to understand and manipulate adult hippocampal neurogenesis in order to repair damaged hippocampal circuitry to recover lost cognitive functions. This paper presents a comparative study of different integration methods of stresses (both analytical and numerical) for concrete sections subjected to axial loads and biaxial bending. Such methods are applied to circular and rectangular sections. The constitutive equation used is a parabola-rectangle from the Eurocode-2. The comparison was performed with regard to the accuracy and the computational speed of each method. The objective of the paper is to determine which of the integration methods compared is more efficient in computing the interaction surfaces for rectangular and circular sections. The analytical method proposed by Barros et al. [Barros MHFM, Barros A, Ferreira C. Closed form solution of optimal design of rectangular reinforced concrete sections. Eng Comput 2004;21(7):761–76] for rectangular sections is compared with the numerical method termed “modified thick layer integration” proposed by Bonet et al. [Bonet JL, Romero ML, Miguel PF, Fernandez MA. A fast stress integration algorithm for reinforced concrete sections with axial loads and biaxial bending. Comput Struct 2004;82(2–3):213–25] and with the well-known fiber method. Furthermore, two new methods are proposed for circular sections: one analytical and one numerical based on the Gauss–Legendre quadrature.
