The objective of this study was first to compare the performance of four strong anion exchange resins (AERs) (MIEX from Orica Pty Ltd, DOWEX-11 and DOWEX-MSA from DOW chemical and IRA-938 from Rohm and Haas) for their application in drinking water treatment (natural organic matter (NOM), mineral anions (nitrate, sulfate and bromide) and pesticide removal) using bench-scale experimental procedures on a high DOC content surface water. The efficiency of MIEX for NOM and mineral anions removal was furthermore evaluated using bench-scale dose-response experiments on raw, clarified and post-ozonated waters. NOM removal was assessed using the measurement of dissolved organic carbon (DOC), UV absorbance at 254 nm (UV254) and the use of high-performance size exclusion chromatography with UV (HPSEC/UV) and fluorescence detection (HPSEC/FLUO). The MIEX and IRA938 anionic resins exhibit a faster removal of NOM and mineral anions compared to the DOWEX11 and MSA AERs. All the resins were found to be very effective with similar performances after 30 to 45 min of contact time. As expected, only limited sorption of atrazine and isoproturon (C0=1 microg/L) occurred with MIEX, DOWEX11 and MSA AERs. MIEX resin proved to be very efficient in eliminating NOM of high-molecular weight but also a large part of the smallest UV absorbing organic compounds which were refractory to coagulation/flocculation treatment. Remaining DOC levels after 30 min of contact with MIEX were found similar in raw water, clarified water and even post-ozonated water implying no DOC benefit can be gained by employing conventional treatment prior to MIEX treatment. We investigate an extension of predictive control, PID controllers, and Smith predictors to some classes of linear delay systems which are most encountered in practice. The predictive part is provided by extending flatness-based predictive control. Generalized PI regulators lead to a 'PID and Smith predictor'-like scheme which permits us to easily handle (deadtime-dominant) unstable systems. Numerous examples with thorough simulations demonstrate the performance of the proposed control strategy.  相似文献

Bacillus 1,3-1,4-beta-glucanases hydrolyze 1,3-1,4-beta-gluco-oligosaccharides with a retaining mechanism. The binding-site cleft of these endoglycosidases is composed of six subsites (-4 to +2) of which subsite -3 makes the largest contribution to transition state stabilization. The specificity of this subsite is here analyzed for both glycosidase and glycosynthase activities in the wild-type and the nucleophile-less E134A mutant Bacillus licheniformis enzymes. A D-galactosyl residue on the nonreducing end of a trisaccharide substrate is accepted by the enzyme and binds at subsite -3 in the productive enzyme-substrate complex. The wild-type enzyme catalyzes the hydrolysis of the substrate Glcbeta4Glcbeta3GlcbetaMU (Glc=glucosyl, MU=4-methylumbelliferyl) with a k(cat)/K(M) value only 1.3-fold higher than for the Galbeta4Glcbeta3GlcbetaMU (Gal=galactosyl) substrate. The corresponding alpha-fluorides act as good donors for the glycosynthase condensation reaction with mono- and disaccharide acceptors catalyzed by the E134A mutant. Whereas self-condensation and elongation products are also obtained as minor compounds with the Glcbeta4Glcbeta3GlcalphaF donor, nearly quantitative yields of single condensation products are obtained with the Galbeta4Glcbeta3GlcalphaF donor, in which the axial configuration of the 4-OH group on the nonreducing end prevents self-condensation and elongation reactions.  相似文献

Shape is an important consideration in green building design due to its significant impact on energy performance and construction costs. This paper presents a methodology to optimize building shapes in plan using the genetic algorithm. The building footprint is represented by a multi-sided polygon. Different geometrical representations for a polygon are considered and evaluated in terms of their potential problems such as epistasis, which occurs when one gene pair masks or modifies the expression of other gene pairs, and encoding isomorphism, which occurs when chromosomes with different binary strings map to the same solution in the design space. Two alternative representations are compared in terms of their impact on computational effectiveness and efficiency. An optimization model is established considering the shape-related variables and several other envelope-related design variables such as window ratios and overhangs. Life-cycle cost and life-cycle environmental impact are the two objective functions used to evaluate the performance of a green building design. A case study is presented where the shape of a typical floor of an office building defined by a pentagon is optimized with a multi-objective genetic algorithm.  相似文献

Combinatorial methods offer an efficient approach for the development of new materials. Methods for generating combinatorial samples of materials, and methods for characterizing local composition and structure by electron microprobe analysis and electron-backscatter diffraction are relatively well developed. But a key component for combinatorial studies of materials is high-spatial-resolution measurements of the property of interest, for example, the magnetic, optical, electrical, mechanical or thermal properties of each phase, composition or processing condition. Advances in the experimental methods used for mapping these properties will have a significant impact on materials science and engineering. Here we show how time-domain thermoreflectance can be used to image the thermal conductivity of the cross-section of a Nb-Ti-Cr-Si diffusion multiple, and thereby demonstrate rapid and quantitative measurements of thermal transport properties for combinatorial studies of materials. The lateral spatial resolution of the technique is 3.4 microm, and the time required to measure a 100 x 100 pixel image is approximately 1 h. The thermal conductivity of TiCr(2) decreases by a factor of two in crossing from the near-stoichiometric side of the phase to the Ti-rich side; and the conductivity of (Ti,Nb)(3)Si shows a strong dependence on crystalline orientation.  相似文献

Heat recovery from automotive engines has been predominantly for turbo-charging or for cabin heating. Studies relative to application of the recovered heat to run absorption chillers is scarce. In this project, a 10.55 kW (three ton) absorption chiller was modified for hot gas intake and matched to a 2.8 L V6 internal combustion engine. Mathematical model and experimental test results suggest that the concept is thermodynamically feasible and could significantly enhance system performance depending on part-load of the engine. However, possible challenges during transient operations as well as issues related to scalability and reliability require further investigation.  相似文献

In this paper, the problem of identifying stochastic linear continuous-time systems from noisy input/output data is addressed. The input of the system is assumed to have a skewed probability density function, whereas the noises contaminating the data are assumed to be symmetrically distributed. The third-order cumulants of the input/output data are then (asymptotically) insensitive to the noises, that can be coloured and/or mutually correlated. Using this noise-cancellation property two computationally simple estimators are proposed. The usefulness of the proposed algorithms is assessed through a numerical simulation.  相似文献

Calcium has been demonstrated to play an important role in hepatocyte damage during ischemia/reperfusion phases. Calcium influx was determined in primary cultured rat hepatocytes submitted to a succession of warm hypoxia and reoxygenation phases in the presence of diltiazem, gallopamil and a Na+/H+ antiport inhibitor, HOE-694. Only diltiazem significantly inhibited calcium influx with higher potency after reoxygenation than after hypoxia only, suggesting a complex mechanism of action of diltiazem which could act on different physiological functions involved in Ca2+ invasion of hepatocytes after hypoxic insult.  相似文献
