A 20-week feeding trial was conducted to determine whether increasing linolenic acid (18:3n-3) in vegetable oil (VO) based diets would lead to increased tissue deposition of 22:6n-3 in Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). Five isonitrogenous and isoenergetic diets were supplemented with 3% of either linseed oil (LO), a mixture of linseed oil with refined palm olein oil (PO) (LO–PO 2:1) and a mixture of refined palm olein oil with linseed oil (PO–LO 3:2) or with fish oil (FO) or corn oil (CO) as controls. The PO–LO, LO–PO and LO diets supplied a similar amount of 18:2n-6 (0.5% of diet by dry weight) and 0.5, 0.7 and 1.1% of 18:3n-3, respectively. Increased dietary 18:3n-3 caused commensurate increases in longer-chain n-3 PUFA and decreases in longer-chain n-6 PUFA in the muscle lipids of tilapia. However, the biosynthetic activities of fish fed the LO-based diets were not sufficient to raise the tissue concentrations of 20:5n-3, 22:5n-3 and 22:6n-3 to those of fish fed FO. The study suggests that tilapia (O. niloticus) has a limited capacity to synthesise 20:5n-3 and 22:6n-3 from dietary 18:3n-3. The replacement of FO in the diet of farmed tilapia with vegetable oils could therefore lower tissue concentrations of 20:5n-3 and 22:6n-3, and consequently produce an aquaculture product of lower lipid nutritional value for the consumer.  相似文献

Chemical inertness of helium suggests that local magnetic moment formation is determined solely by the intrinsic carbon defects created during the target damage. We report the electro-optical (E/O) characteristics of the Langmuir-Blodgett film of poly(vinylidene fluoride with trifluoroethylene) copolymers. The structural origin of E/O response of nano LB films was discussed with the result of temperature dependent E/O response at a temperature range from 20 to 100 degrees C. Thermal hysteresis of E/O response and the ferroelectric-paraelectric phase transition were observed at a 20 monomolecular layers Langmuir-Blodgett films.  相似文献

The radial mechanical properties of single-walled boron nitride nanotubes (SW-BNNTs) are investigated by atomic force microscopy. Nanomechanical measurements reveal the radial deformation of individual SW-BNNTs in both elastic and plastic regimes. The measured effective radial elastic moduli of SW-BNNTs are found to follow a decreasing trend with an increase in tube diameter, ranging from 40.78 to 1.85 GPa for tube diameters of 0.58 to 2.38 nm. The results show that SW-BNNTs have relatively lower effective radial elastic moduli than single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs). The axially strong, but radially supple characteristics suggest that SW-BNNTs may be superior to SWCNTs as reinforcing additives for nanocomposite applications.  相似文献

Results are presented from X-ray absorption spectroscopy based analysis of As, Cr, and V speciation within samples of bauxite ore processing residue (red mud) collected from the spill site at Ajka, Western Hungary. Cr K-edge XANES analysis found that Cr is present as Cr(3+) substituted into hematite, consistent with TEM analysis. V K-edge XANES spectra have E(1/2) position and pre-edge features consistent with the presence of V(5+) species, possibly associated with Ca-aluminosilicate phases. As K-edge XANES spectra identified As present as As(5+). EXAFS analysis reveals arsenate phases in red mud samples. When alkaline leachate from the spill site is neutralized with HCl, 94% As and 71% V are removed from solution during the formation of amorphous Al-oxyhydroxide. EXAFS analysis of As in this precipitate reveals the presence of arsenate Al-oxyhydroxide surface complexes. These results suggest that in the circumneutral pH, oxic conditions found in the Torna and Upper Marcal catchments, incorporation and sorption, respectively, will restrict the environmental mobility of Cr and As. V is inefficiently removed from solution by neutralization, therefore, the red mud may act as a source of mobile V(5+) where the red mud deposits are not removed from affected land.  相似文献

A review is presented of the current understanding of the partitioning phenomena of relatively low vapor pressure organic chemicals between the gas phase and atmospheric particulates. The phenomena have been interpreted as adsorption, absorption, or a combination of both and corresponding theoretical equations suggested to quantify partitioning. Empirical correlations involving the chemical's vapor pressure and octanol--air partition coefficient are discussed. It is suggested that insights into selecting preferred correlations and into the nature of the partitioning phenomena can be enhanced by treating the partition coefficient as a ratio of a solubility or pseudo-solubility of the chemical in the aerosol particle to that in air. Such particle solubilities when calculated for PCBs, alkanes, and PAHs show remarkable constancy and are generally consistent with near-ideal absorption into organic matter. An exception occurs when the PAH is generated simultaneously with the aerosol and unusually high solubilities are observed, indicative of adsorption to active carbon surfaces. Recommendations are made for interpreting experimental partitioning data and for the use of correlations for predictive purposes.  相似文献

A simple and controllable one-step method to fabricate superhydrophobic surfaces on poly(tetrafluoroethylene) (PTFE) films is developed on the base of electron irradiation. When the thickness of PTFE films is higher than the penetration depth of electron beams, electrical charging occurs at the surface of the films because of the imbalance between the accumulation of incident electrons and the emission of secondary electrons. Local inhomogeneity of charge distribution due to this electrical charging results in the nonuniform decomposition of PTFE molecular bonds. As electron fluence increases, surface morphology and surface roughness of the films are dramatically changed. An extremely rough surface with micrometer-sized pores is produced on the surface of PTFE films by electron irradiation at a fluence higher than 2.5 × 10(17) cm(-2).Because of high surface roughness, the irradiated PTFE films exhibit superhydrophobic property with a water contact angle (CA) greater than 150° at fluences ranging from 4 × 10(17) to 1 × 10(18) cm(-2). The surface morphology and corresponding water CA can be controlled by simply changing the electron fluence. This electron irradiation method can be applicable to the fabrication of superhydrophobic surfaces using other low-surface-energy materials including various fluoropolymers.  相似文献

Body weight, growth, carcass and meat quality characteristics were evaluated in three breeds of goats (Batina, Dhofari and Jabal Akdhar) in Oman. Fourteen intact male goats from each breed were used. Jabal Akdhar goats had significantly heavier slaughter, empty body, and carcass weights and higher growth rates than Dhofari and Batina goats. Jabal Akdhar goats had significantly heavier internal organs than the other two breeds. Dressing-out percent (based on empty body weight) of goats ranged between 53 and 57%, with the Dhofari goats having the highest value. Longissimus muscle dimensions varied between the three breeds, with Jabal Akdhar having a significantly larger area than Batina with Dhofari in between. Dhofari goats produced significantly shorter and wider carcasses than Batina and Jabal Akhdar goats. Carcass cuts were significantly heavier in Jabal Akdhar than the other two breeds. Four muscles (Mm. longissimus dorsi, biceps femoris, semitendinosus, and semimembranosus) from both sides of each carcass were subjected to two different ageing periods (1 day vs. 6 day) and evaluated for ultimate pH, expressed juice, percent cooking loss, colour (L*, a* and b*), and Warner-Bratzler shear force. Breed had a significant influence on pH and percent cooking loss but not on expressed juice, shear force value and colour (CIE L*,a*, b* values). Muscles from the Batina goats had significantly higher ultimate pH values and lower percent cooking loss than Dhofari and Jabal Akdhar goats. Ageing from 1 to 6 days increased tenderness significantly (27%), but decreased cooking loss by 5%.  相似文献

The reaction of [Ni(L)]Cl2·2H2O (L = 3,14-dimethyl-2,6,13,17-tetraazatricyclo [14,4,01.18,07.12]docosane) with trans-1,2-cyclopentanedicarboxylic acid (H2-cpdc) yields a 1D hydrogen-bonded infinite chain with formula [Ni(L)(H-cpdc)2] (1). This complex has been characterized by X-ray crystallography, spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry. The crystal structure of 1 exhibits a distorted octahedral geometry about Ni atom with four nitrogen atoms of the macrocycle and two oxygen atoms of the H-cpdc ligand at the axial position. Compound 1 crystallizes in the monoclinic system P21/c with a = 8.7429(17), b = 10.488(2), c = 18.929(4) Å, β = 91.82(2), V = 1734.8(6) Å3, Z = 2. Electronic spectrum of 1 reveals a high-spin octahedral environment. Cyclic voltammetry of 1 undergoes two waves of a one-electron transfer corresponding to NiII/NiIII and NiII/NiI processes.  相似文献

Carbon nanotube (CNT) is an attractive material for needle-like conducting electrodes because it has high electrical conductivity and mechanical strength. However, CNTs cannot provide the desired properties in certain applications. To obtain micro- and nanoneedles having the desired properties, it is necessary to fabricate functional needles using various other materials. In this study, functional micro- and nanoneedle electrodes were fabricated using a tungsten tip and an atomic force microscope probe with a CNT needle template and electrodeposition. To prepare the conductive needle templates, a single-wall nanotube nanoneedle was attached onto the conductive tip using dielectrophoresis and surface tension. Through electrodeposition, Au, Ni, and polypyrrole were each coated successfully onto CNT nanoneedle electrodes to obtain the desired properties.  相似文献
