The drag force and the mass transfer rate of a Newtonian fluid sphere, having mobile or rigid interface, moving in a power law fluid, are obtained by an approximate solution of equations of motion in the creeping flow regime. It is shown that both the drag and mass transfer increase as the flow index of the external fluid decreases.

The increase of drag due to the pseudoplastic anomaly is more significant at large viscosity ratio parameter. The results obtained are in good agreement with available experimental data and with those analyses based on variational principle when the non-Newtonian flow behavior is not very pronounced.

Also, the predicted mass transfer rates are in good agreement with the trends presented in the literature. Unlike in the case of drag force, the effect of the pseudoplastic anomaly on mass transfer rate is more pronounced for low values of the viscosity ratio parameter. The analysis was extended to include the case when the surface of the sphere was immobilized by surface-active contaminants.  相似文献

In this paper, ZnFe2O4 spinel ferrite nanoparticles with different grain sizes at different annealing temperatures have been synthesized using the starch-assisted sol–gel auto-combustion method. The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized by conventional powder X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy, and vibrating sample magnetometer. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns demonstrated that the ZnFe2O4 nanoparticles consist of single-phase spinel structure with crystallite sizes 4.81, 8.72, 12.06, 29.32, and 72.60 nm annealed at 400, 600, 800, 1000, and 1200 °C, respectively. Field emission scanning electron microscopy reveals that particles are of spherical morphology at lower annealing temperature and hexagonal-like morphology at higher temperature. An infrared spectroscopy study shows the presence of two principal absorption bands in the frequency range around 525 cm?1 (ν 1) and around 350 cm?1 (ν 2), which indicate the presence of tetrahedral and octahedral group complexes, respectively, within the spinel ferrite nanoparticles. Raman spectroscopy study also indicated the change in octahedral and tetrahedral site-related Raman modes in zinc ferrite nanoparticles with change of particle size. The nanocrystalline ZnFe2O4 samples (4.81, 8.72, 12.06, 29.32 nm) show ferrimagnetic behavior, and bulk sample (72.60 nm) shows paramagnetic behavior. This change in magnetic behavior is due to change of cation distribution in ZnFe2O4 nanoparticles with decrease of particle size.  相似文献

Benzo[a]pyrene (B[a]P) is the main representative of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and has been repeatedly found in the air, surface water, soil, and sediments. It is present in cigarette smoke as well as in food products, especially when smoked and grilled. Human exposure to B[a]P is therefore common. Research shows growing evidence concerning toxic effects induced by this substance. This xenobiotic is metabolized by cytochrome P450 (CYP P450) to carcinogenic metabolite: 7β,8α-dihydroxy-9α,10α-epoxy-7,8,9,10-tetrahydrobenzo[a]pyrene (BPDE), which creates DNA adducts, causing mutations and malignant transformations. Moreover, B[a]P is epigenotoxic, neurotoxic, and teratogenic, and exhibits pro-oxidative potential and causes impairment of animals’ fertility. CYP P450 is strongly involved in B[a]P metabolism, and it is simultaneously expressed as a result of the association of B[a]P with aromatic hydrocarbon receptor (AhR), playing an essential role in the cancerogenic potential of various xenobiotics. In turn, polymorphism of CYP P450 genes determines the sensitivity of the organism to B[a]P. It was also observed that B[a]P facilitates the multiplication of viruses, which may be an additional problem with the widespread COVID-19 pandemic. Based on publications mainly from 2017 to 2022, this paper presents the occurrence of B[a]P in various environmental compartments and human surroundings, shows the exposure of humans to this substance, and describes the mechanisms of its toxicity.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of using meiotic spindle (MS) visibility and relative position to the polar body (PB) as indicators of oocyte maturation in order to optimize intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) timing. This was a cohort study of patients younger than 40 years with planned ICSI, the timing of which was determined by MS status, compared with those without MS evaluation. The angle between PB and MS and MS visibility were evaluated by optical microscope with polarizing filter. Oocytes with MS evaluation were fertilized according to MS status either 5–6 h after ovum pick-up (OPU) or 7–8 h after OPU. Oocytes without MS evaluation were all fertilized 5–6 h after OPU. For patients over 35 years visualization of MS influenced pregnancy rate (PR): 182 patients with MS visualization had 32% PR (58/182); while 195 patients without MS visualization had 24% PR (47/195). For patients under 35 years, visualization of MS did not influence PR: 140 patients with MS visualization had 41% PR (58/140), while 162 patients without MS visualization had 41% PR (66/162). Visualization of MS therefore appears to be a useful parameter for assessment of oocyte maturity and ICSI timing for patients older than 35.  相似文献

The present study was set up to examine the effect of alloying elements (including harmful elements) on metallurgical features (material properties and qualitative parameters) of tin bronzes, with particular reference to church bells from Middle Ages to Current times. A driving force of this study was to identify and demonstrate features related to the quality of church bells made in different centuries. The findings have been derived via metallographic and chemical analysis of specimens of bells from various parts of Australasia and Europe. The bell materials consisted of a mixture of the a phase and the (α+β) eutectoid essentially, in proportions determined by tin content and mould materials during casting. The samples from the 15th century to the one from the 20th century showed a progressive increase in hardness, ranging from the minimum of -280 VHM20g to a maximum of -470 VHM20g for the (α+β) eutectoid, and -160 VHM20g to -230 VHM20g for the a phase. The investigation also shows that the sound decay of the bell decreased with lowering the wt.% of tin and increasing the wt.% of lead and silver. This information is expected to provide an additional interesting knowledge into manufacturing practices and their significance in the quality of church bells over past centuries.  相似文献

A new model for laminar natural convection heat transfer between an isothermal vertical plate to a power-law fluid is proposed. The difficulty caused by the fact that the momentum and energy equations are coupled is avoided by introducing an approximation based on the partial similarity between the velocity fields for forced and natural convections. The model proposed in this work agrees well with the available experimental data and correlations. Further, we have extended the analysis to turbulent natural convection heat transfer. The predicted turbulent heat transfer rates are in satisfactory agreement with the data and the correlations published in the literature.  相似文献

A biphasic solvothermal reaction method has been used for the synthesis of TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs). In this method, hydrolysis and nucleation occur at the interface of organic phase (titanium (IV) n-propoxide and stearic acid dissolved in toluene) and water phase (tert-butylamine dissolved in water) resulting in the nucleation of the stearic acid-capped TiO2 NPs. These NPs are hydrophilic due to hydrophobic stearic acid ligands and could be dispersed in toluene, but not in water. These stearic acid-capped TiO2 NPs were surface-modified with 2,3-dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA) in order to make them water soluble. The resultant TiO2 NPs were easily redispersed in water without any noticeable aggregation. The Rietveld profile fitting of X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern of the TiO2 NPs revealed highly crystalline anatase structure. The average crystallite size of TiO2 NPs was calculated to be 6.89 nm, which agrees with TEM results. These results have important implications for the use of TiO2 in biomedical, environmental, and industrial applications.  相似文献

The first aim of this study was to fabricate vertically aligned multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). MWCNTs were successfully prepared by using plasma enhanced chemical vapour deposition. Further, three carbon composite electrodes with different content of carbon particles with various shapes and sizes were prepared and tested on measuring of nucleic acids. The dependences of adenine peak height on the concentration of nucleic acid sample were measured. Carbon composite electrode prepared from a mixture of glassy and spherical carbon powder and MWCNTs had the highest sensitivity to nucleic acids. Other interesting result is the fact that we were able to distinguish signals for all bases using this electrode.  相似文献
