This paper is devoted to the study of the fracture behaviour of two industrial refractory materials thanks to the development of a new technique of digital image correlation (DIC). DIC, already known as a helpful and effective tool for the measurement of displacement and deformation fields in materials, has been adapted to take into account displacement discontinuities as cracks. The material transformation, usually assumed homogeneous inside each DIC subset, is thus more complex, while each subset can be cut in two parts with different kinematics. By this way, it is possible to automatically find the fracture paths and follow the crack geometries (length, opening) during the loading with a higher spatial resolution than the one obtained by standard DIC. After having presented the principle of the new technique, its metrological performances are assessed from synthetic images and the choice of crack detection criterion is discussed. The capacity of this new technique is shown through a comparative study with standard DIC. Its application is led on magnesia-spinel refractory materials, specifically to highlight and to characterize the evolution of kinematic fields (displacement and strain) observed at the surface of sample during a wedge splitting test typically used to quantify the work of fracture. We show that refractories with aggregates of iron aluminate spinel present a fracture mechanism with crack branching and can dissipate more energy thanks to a longer crack network.  相似文献

We aim at developing autonomous miniature hovering flying robots capable of navigating in unstructured GPS-denied environments. A major challenge is the miniaturization of the embedded sensors and processors that allow such platforms to fly by themselves. In this paper, we propose a novel ego-motion estimation algorithm for hovering robots equipped with inertial and optic-flow sensors that runs in real-time on a microcontroller and enables autonomous flight. Unlike many vision-based methods, this algorithm does not rely on feature tracking, structure estimation, additional distance sensors or assumptions about the environment. In this method, we introduce the translational optic-flow direction constraint, which uses the optic-flow direction but not its scale to correct for inertial sensor drift during changes of direction. This solution requires comparatively much simpler electronics and sensors and works in environments of any geometry. Here we describe the implementation and performance of the method on a hovering robot equipped with eight 0.65 g optic-flow sensors, and show that it can be used for closed-loop control of various motions.  相似文献

A method to calibrate classical heat flux sensors is presented. The classical approach to measure the temperature inside a known material by using a thermocouple fails when the measurement time is very short. In this work the surface heat flux is determined by solving the inverse heat conduction problem using a noninteger identified system as a direct model for the estimation process. Using short pulse laser calibration measurements the crucial design aspects of the sensor that play a significant role when assuming one-dimensional, semi-infinite heat transfer have been accounted for. The theoretical approach as well as the calibration results are presented and comparisons to the classical approach and results from finite element modeling are shown. It is concluded that the new method ameliorate the heat flux sensor significantly and extend its application to very short measurement times.  相似文献

Chemicals released into the environment by food, predators and conspecifics play critical roles in Drosophila reproduction. Females and males live in an environment full of smells, whose molecules communicate to them the availability of food, potential mates, competitors or predators. Volatile chemicals derived from fruit, yeast growing on the fruit, and flies already present on the fruit attract Drosophila, concentrating flies at food sites, where they will also mate. Species-specific cuticular hydrocarbons displayed on female Drosophila as they mature are sensed by males and act as pheromones to stimulate mating by conspecific males and inhibit heterospecific mating. The pheromonal profile of a female is also responsive to her nutritional environment, providing an honest signal of her fertility potential. After mating, cuticular and semen hydrocarbons transferred by the male change the female’s chemical profile. These molecules make the female less attractive to other males, thus protecting her mate’s sperm investment. Females have evolved the capacity to counteract this inhibition by ejecting the semen hydrocarbon (along with the rest of the remaining ejaculate) a few hours after mating. Although this ejection can temporarily restore the female’s attractiveness, shortly thereafter another male pheromone, a seminal peptide, decreases the female’s propensity to re-mate, thus continuing to protect the male’s investment. Females use olfaction and taste sensing to select optimal egg-laying sites, integrating cues for the availability of food for her offspring, and the presence of other flies and of harmful species. We argue that taking into account evolutionary considerations such as sexual conflict, and the ecological conditions in which flies live, is helpful in understanding the role of highly species-specific pheromones and blends thereof, as well as an individual’s response to the chemical cues in its environment.  相似文献

Enthalpy relaxation processes in chalcogenide fibers at room temperature are investigated by differential scanning calorimetry and compared with bending-stress relaxation measurements obtained by rolling fibers on a mandrel and recording the viscoelastic relaxation parameters. While the kinetics of the two processes is very different, several qualitative correlations are demonstrated between the enthalpy state and the mechanical properties of chalcogenide glass fibers. It is observed that the ability to undergo stress relaxation is dependent upon the fictive temperature of the glass. Stress relaxation in a glass far from thermodynamic equilibrium is contingent upon its ability to undergo enthalpy relaxation and is minimal in glasses that have already relaxed enthalpy or in which relaxation time is overwhelmingly large.  相似文献

Polysulfone (PSU) was chemically modified to prepare new molecular imprinted membranes (MIMs). Several amounts of amine and sulfonyl groups were introduced into the PSU chemical structure in order to create interactions with acid or base templates, such as biomolecules or biomacromolecules. A fluorescent dye, Acridine Orange base (AO), was used as a model template and its complexation with the prepared PSUs was monitored by spectroscopic techniques. This study showed an absence of complexation with the native PSU and a strong complexation with the aminated and the sulfonated PSUs. Partially allylated PSU bearing amine or sulfonyl groups were also synthesized. These compounds are expected to be used as precursors for designing new crosslinked molecular imprinting membranes (MIMs), exhibiting high stability of the template memory.  相似文献

Here, we propose an automatic system to annotate and retrieve images. We assume that regions in an image can be described using a vocabulary of blobs. Blobs are generated from image features using clustering. Features are locally extracted on regions to capture Color, Texture and Shape information. Regions are processed by an efficient segmentation algorithm. Images are structured into a region adjacency graph to consider spatial relationships between regions. This representation is used to perform a similarity search into an image set. Hence, the user can express his need by giving a query image, and thereafter receiving as a result all similar images. Our graph based approach is benchmarked to conventional Bag of Words methods. Results tend to reveal a good behavior in classification of our graph based solution on two publicly available databases. Experiments illustrate that a structural approach requires a smaller vocabulary size to reach its best performance.  相似文献

The gas quenching process at the end of solution heat treatment and its influence on microstructure and creep properties of the single crystal superalloy CMSX-10 was studied using numerical and experimental techniques. Computational fluid dynamics was used to model the turbulent flow field in the furnace during quenching. Boundary conditions were obtained by measuring the pressure drop across the chamber. The calculated flow velocities for a range of process conditions were in reasonable agreement with the ones measured using a Pitot tube; differences were mainly attributed to the unsteady nature of the turbulent flow. The resulting cooling rates in the furnace load were quantified with higher cooling rates leading to smaller γ′ precipitates. Asymmetry of the flow field leads to variations in γ′ size. This can be reduced by changing the way turbine blades are placed in the furnace. Creep tests demonstrated that this can have a significant effect on the creep properties of the material. At low temperatures (850 °C), specimens with larger γ′ particles showed better creep performance, with less pronounced primary creep. At high temperatures (1100 °C) small γ′ size showed a slight advantage.  相似文献
