The phase-transfer catalytic reaction (PTC) of 2,4,6-tribromophenol and dibromomethane by quaternary ammonium salt was carried out in a high alkali content of KOH/dibromomethane two-phase medium. A large conversion of 2,4,6-tribromophenol is obtained at a region of high KOH content. Dibromomethane acts both as the organic-phase reactant and the organic solvent; thus, no extra organic solvent is required. Two main products, i.e., α -bromomethyl 2,4,6-tribromophenyl ether (mono-substituted product) and bis-(2,4,6-tribromophenoxide)methane (bis-substituted product), were detected in the solution during the phase-transfer catalytic reaction. The active catalyst (tetrabutylammonium 2,4,6-tribromophenoxide, ArOQ), which was produced from the reaction of 2,4,6-tribromophenol, potassium hydroxide, and tetrabutylammonium bromide (TBAB or QBr), is purified as the crystalline product from the reaction solution. A kinetic model is developed to describe the behaviors of the two organic-phase reactions on the basis of the experimental observation. The two intrinsic rate constants of the two organic-phase reactions, which are the rate-determining steps of the whole reaction system, are determined. Effects of the reaction conditions, such as agitation speed, amount of water, amount of TBAB catalyst, temperature, and amount of dibromomethane, quaternary ammonium salts, and inorganic salt KBr, on the conversion of 2,4,6-tribromophenol and the reaction rate are investigated in detail.  相似文献

Using geographic routing, like GPSR, is efficient for ad hoc and wireless sensor networks, but it requires that nodes be aware of their physical positions. However, if there are holes in the network, routing across them using GPSR will lead to a lot of overloaded nodes on their boundaries. In this paper, we propose a distributed protocol, named hexagonal virtual coordinate (HVC), for constructing a virtual coordinate system. After the HVC is constructed, the nodes in the network will be aware of the relative coordinates among the landmarks through the HVC chart. Based on the HVC chart, a source node can find an auxiliary routing path (ARP) to indicate the direction of the journey from the source to the destination. Simulation results show that our protocol can support geographic routing efficiently, and the landmarks found by our protocol are uniformly located in the network even if some holes exist within it. In addition, our protocol is resilient to various network shapes and can find a load balancing routing path to the destination even if this path comes across holes in the network. The combination of two or more chemopreventive agents is currently being used to achieve greater inhibitory effects on breast cancer cells. Anacardic acid and lunasin are two plant-derived compounds that have been associated with anti-carcinogenic properties. These compounds show inhibitory effects on cell proliferation and inducing properties of apoptosis in human breast cancer MDA-MB-231 cell line. Both lunasin and anacardic acid exert their effects through the modulation of expression of several genes involved in cell cycle, apoptosis and signal transduction. Their combination arrests the cell cycle in S-phase and induces apoptosis at higher levels than that observed when each compound is used individually. This combination also promotes the inhibition of ERBB2, AKT1, JUN and RAF1 signalling gene expression, whose up-regulation has been reported as responsible for breast cancer cells growth and resistance to apoptosis. Our results introduce these two compounds as a promising strategy to prevent/treat breast cancer.  相似文献

Typhoons and hurricanes in subtropical/tropical regions can induce significant environmental changes (e.g., mass flooding and inundations). However, the damage to the pollutant removal efficiencies of constructed wetlands brought about by these natural disturbances has been neglected in major studies conducted in temperate climates. Therefore, this study compares the pollutant removal performance of a constructed wetland in the Danshui River Basin, before and after the system was inundated with flooding from Typhoon Krosa in 2007. The pollutant removal performance of the free water surface (FWS) constructed wetland was investigated monthly from September 2006 to April 2008. Results of the study demonstrated that this FWS wetland effectively removed 64.3% BOD, 98.9% NH4-N, and 39.5% Total-P before Typhoon Krosa. However, the extensive flooding caused by Typhoon Krosa swept over most of the aboveground plant community and deposited the sediment onto the bottom of each compartment. Subsequently, reduced pollutant removal efficiencies were observed. Only 37.7% BOD, 35.1% NH4-N, and 31.8% Total-P were removed after this event, although the flow regime was immediately restored. Comparing the water quality data for the FWS wetland before and after Typhoon Krosa revealed the immediate, quantitative damage to the pollutant removal performance caused by the typhoon's inundation. Consequently, a high-flow bypass and additional preventive measures would protect any constructed wetland in areas subject to typhoons.  相似文献

Environmental estrogenic chemicals interrupt endocrine systems and generate reproductive abnormalities in wildlife, especially natural and synthetic estrogenic steroid hormones such as 17β-estradiol (E2), estrone (E1), estriol (E3), 17α-ethynylestradiol (EE2), and diethylstilbestrol (DES). Concentrated animal feedlot operations (CAFOs) are of particular concern since large amounts of naturally excreted estrogens are discharged into aquatic environments. This study investigated E2, E1, E3, EE2, and DES with high performance liquid chromatography/tandem mass (HPLC-MS/MS) analyses along Wulo Creek in southern Taiwan, near a concentrated livestock feedlot containing 1,030,000 broiler chickens, 934,000 laying hens, 85,000 pigs, and 1500 cattle. Sampling was performed from December 2008 to May 2009, in which 54 samples were collected. Experimental results indicate that concentrations of EE2 were lower than the limit of detection (LOD), and concentrations of DES were only detected twice. Concentrations ranged from 7.4 to 1267 ng/L for E1, from not detected (ND) to 313.6 ng/L for E2, and from ND to 210 ng/L for E3. E1 had the highest average mass fraction (72.2 ± 3.6%), which was significantly higher than E3 (16.2 ± 1.7%) and E2 (11.5 ± 2.6%). Additionally, the mean E2 equivalent quotient (EEQ) ranged from 17.3 to 137.9 ng-E2/L. Despite having a markedly lower concentration than E1, E2 more significantly contributed (52.4 ± 6.0%) EEQ than E1 (19.7 ± 3.5%). Moreover, the concentrations of E2, E1, and E3 upstream were significantly higher than concentrations downstream, suggesting a high attenuation effect and fast degradation in the study water. Most concentrations in winter season were higher than those of spring season due to the low dilution effect and low microbial activity in the winter season. Based on the results of this study, we recommend further treatment of the wastewater discharge from the feedlot.  相似文献

A linearly/circularly polarized heterodyne light beam coming from a heterodyne light source with an electro-optic modulator in turn enters a modified Twyman-Green interferometer to measure the surface plane of a GRIN lens. Two groups of periodic sinusoidal segments recorded by a fast complementary metal-oxide semiconductor camera are modified, and their associated phases are derived with the unique technique. The data are substituted into the special equations derived from the Fresnel equations, and the refractive index can be obtained. When the processes are applied to other pixels, the full-field refractive-index distribution can be obtained similarly. Its validity is demonstrated.  相似文献

The present paper investigates the effect of adding silica nanoparticles to an anhydride-cured epoxy polymer in bulk and when used as the matrix of carbon- and glass-fibre reinforced composites. The formation of ‘hybrid’ epoxy polymers, containing both silica nanoparticles and carboxyl-terminated butadiene-acrylonitrile (CTBN) rubber microparticles, is also discussed. The structure/property relationships are considered, with an emphasis on the toughness and the toughening mechanisms. The fracture energy of the bulk epoxy polymer was increased from 77 to 212 J/m2 by the presence of 20 wt% of silica nanoparticles. The observed toughening mechanisms that were operative were (a) plastic shear-yield bands, and (b) debonding of the matrix from the silica nanoparticles, followed by plastic void-growth of the epoxy. The largest increases in toughness observed were for the ‘hybrid’ materials. Here a maximum fracture energy of 965 J/m2 was measured for a ‘hybrid’ epoxy polymer containing 9 wt% and 15 wt% of the rubber microparticles and silica nanoparticles, respectively. Most noteworthy was the observation that these increases in the toughness of the bulk polymers were found to be transferred to the fibre composites. Indeed, the interlaminar fracture energies for the fibre-composite materials were increased even further by a fibre-bridging toughening mechanism. The present work also extends an existing model to predict the toughening effect of the nanoparticles in a thermoset polymer. There was excellent agreement between the predictions and the experimental data for the epoxy containing the silica nanoparticles, and for epoxy polymers containing micrometre-sized glass particles. The latter, relatively large, glass particles were investigated to establish whether a ‘nano-effect’, with respect to increasing the toughness of the epoxy bulk polymers, did indeed exist.  相似文献

This study focuses on the atmospheric dry deposition flux of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs) in the vicinity of the two municipal solid waste incinerators (MSWIs) located in southern Taiwan. PCDD/Fs in ambient air were taken and analyzed for seventeen 2,3,7,8-substituted PCDD/Fs during November 2004 and July 2005. Results show that the mean concentrations of PCDD/Fs in the ambient air near MSWI-GS and MSWI-RW were 0.090 and 0.097pg I-TEQ/Nm(3), respectively. Dry deposition fluxes of total PCDD/Fs were 18.0 and 23.5pg I-TEQ/(m(2)d) in the ambient air near MSWI-GS and MSWI-RW, respectively, which were considerably higher than that measured in Guangzhou, China. Annual dry deposition fluxes of total PCDD/Fs in the ambient air near MSWI-GS and MSWI-RW were 189 and 217ng/(m(2)year), respectively, which were also much higher than dry deposition of total PCDD/Fs to the Atlantic Ocean. The results of the present study strongly suggest that exposure to PCDD/Fs in this area should be reduced. In addition, parametric sensitivity shows that dry deposition flux of PCDD/Fs is most sensitive to dry deposition velocity of the particle-phase, followed by air temperature and concentration of total suspended particulate but least sensitive to dry deposition velocity of the gas-phase.  相似文献

Experiments were performed to study the heat transfer characteristics of channel flows of deionized (DI) water, methanol, 50 wt% DI water/50 wt% methanol mixture, and ethanol solution in asymmetrically (one sided heating) heated rectangular microchannels with an aspect ratio (H/W) of 0.56 and the corresponding hydraulic diameters (D) of 129 μm at 5 ? Re ? 240. Local heat transfer coefficients distribution were recorded with both isothermal (273 K) and isoflux (12.6, 18.1, 32.3, 50.5 mW/mm2) heating. The influences of test liquid mass flow rates, test fluids, heating condition (isothermal vs isoflux), and surface condition (hydrophilic vs hydrophobic) on heat transfer behavior were examined. Thermal entrance length were also found and correlated in terms of the relevant parameters.  相似文献
