In this paper, we present various linear analyses of the linearized lateral dynamics of heavy‐duty vehicles (HDVs) (tractor‐semitrailer type), which include time domain, frequency domain and pole/zero analyses. These analyses are conducted to examine the vehicle response to the steering input subjected to variations of speed, road adhesion coefficient, cargo load in the trailer, and look‐ahead distance for the lateral deviation sensor. These parameters (uncertainties) have significant influence on vehicle dynamics. It has been shown that redefining the look‐ahead lateral error as the controlled output has a favorable impact on the lateral control problem. Based on these analyses, a robust steering controller using H∞ loop‐shaping procedure is designed for a tractor semitrailer combination to follow the road center line on both curved and straight highway sections. The proposed controller ensures the robust performance under model uncertainties which include varying vehicle longitudinal speed, road adhesion coefficient, and cargo load in the trailer. A lane-detection method aimed at handling moving vehicles in the traffic scenes is proposed in this brief. First, lane marks are extracted based on color information. The extraction of lane-mark colors is designed in a way that is not affected by illumination changes and the proportion of space that vehicles on the road occupy. Next, for vehicles that have the same colors as the lane marks, we utilize size, shape, and motion information to distinguish them from the real lane marks. The mechanism effectively eliminates the influence of passing vehicles when performing lane detection. Finally, pixels in the extracted lane-mark mask are accumulated to find the boundary lines of the lane. The proposed algorithm is able to robustly find the left and right boundary lines of the lane and is not affected by the passing traffic. With the aid of a simple relation, which is analogous to the radar equation, the uplink signal strength received by the receiving module of a roadside unit (RSU) and emitted from the radiation module of an onboard unit (OBU) can be described. Setting the scale of this relation arbitrarily and determining the signal strength threshold from experimental measurements, and combined with the simulation of the radiation and the receiving pattern by cosinen function, the relative signal strength emitted from the OBU and received by the RSU can be calculated successfully. From this computed relative signal strength and the threshold, the influence of the RSU and OBU mounting parameters, such as the mounting angles and mounting height, on the available communication region is analyzed. The effect of windshield fading is also considered. With the help of the analysis results, an optimum RSU and OBU mounting configuration can be easily obtained. This method can be used conveniently and successfully for very short wavelengths. This includes visible light, infrared, and even submillimeter-wave ranges. Abstract An alternative formulation of the scheduling problem in a robot‐centered manufacturing cell has been described here, which was originally formulated by Lin et al. [7] as a mixed integer programming problem. An efficient procedure based on the branch and bound technique has been proposed. In order to reduce the complexity of the branching procedure, several sequencing rules [4] have been imbedded into the proposed procedure and an integrated algorithm has then been presented. Abstract In this paper we discuss detection problems for a high resolution radar. Fluctuation in the target radar cross section usually decreases the probability of detection. However, through integration of cells within range profiles of a high resolution radar, variation of the integrated magnitude with respect to the change of carrier frequency and target aspect becomes much smaller, and this is helpful for improving the probability of detection. Two detection algorithms, the cell integration method and the correlation method, for a high resolution radar are proposed, and their detection performances are compared with that obtained by a conventional low resolution radar. The NexGen (Sonic) burner is the new burner developed by the Federal Aviation Administration, FAA, to replace old oil burners used for the required fire certification tests on power plant‐related materials, as it provides the capability to control both air and fuel flow rates. During a fire test, the burner is supposed to simulate a certain fire condition, so the flame properties should be robust and repeatable. The NexGen burner can achieve this due to the precise fuel and air controls. However, the current calibration criterion (ISO2685:1998 and AC20‐135) may not be good enough to ensure consistent flame properties. In the presented work, the sensitivity of the burner performance to air and fuel flow rate, as measured by the temperature and heat flux for calibration purposes, was studied. Additionally, the influence of the turbulator and the thermocouple size used for flame calibration was also studied. The impact of varying fuel/air ratio and thermocouple sizes was studied by conducting fire tests on aluminum samples, to show the inadequacies in the current calibration standards. 相似文献

Abstract The elastic flexural behavior of static deformation and free vibration of sandwich plates of variable thickness is investigated numerically and experimentally. In the analysis, the face plates are treated as Marguerre shells, and the core is assumed to be an antiplane core and to provide resistance to transverse shear and normal stresses only. Displacement continuity conditions are used at the interfaces between face plates and the core to derive the displacement field. Energy formulations are obtained and solved by the isoparametric finite element method. The numerical results are obtained to compare with the results in the existing literature and to show the effects of taper constant and face plate thickness on deflections and natural frequencies. Finally, experimental works based on the method of holographic interferometry are conducted to confirm the theoretical findings. Experimental and numerical data agree quite well in this work. 相似文献

This work experimentally investigated the effects of jet flow and flow outlet configuration on the fluid flow in an annulus between co-axis rotating cylinders. By using the incense and the laser light, smoke flow visualization in a rotating annulus can be obtained. Firstly, the flow behavior in a rotating annular without jet flow and flow outlet was investigated. When Taylor number (Ta) exceeded 1708, the well-known Taylor vortices were successfully observed. Subsequently, the flow characteristics in a rotating annular with a jet flow and various flow outlet configurations were investigated. The circle jet nozzle was located at the middle position of the stationary outer cylinder. In addition, two flow outlet configurations were employed. One was the model of single outlet at the right side of the annulus, the other was the model of double outlets at both side of the annulus. The jet Reynolds number (Re) was 1351. The Taylor number (Ta) varied from 545 to 24,217. When the impinging force and the inertia force from the jet flow interacted with the Coriolis force and the centrifugal force due to rotation, the fluid flow should become very complicated. The experimental results indicated that the rapid rotation broke the original stream line of the jet flow. On the other hand, when the jet flow turned 90° to be the axial flow, it would suppress the onset of Taylor vortices. Finally, fixing the Re and Ta, the model of single outlet more suppressed the onset of Taylor vortices than the model of double outlets did. 相似文献
