A Novel Athermal 40-Channel DWDM Multi/Demultiplexer Based on the Combination of AWGs and Interleaver

An athermal 40-channel dense wavelength-division-multiplexing multi/demultiplexer using a novel combination technology is proposed. It consists of one 1times4 100- to 400-GHz spacing interleaver filter and four sub-arrayed-waveguide gratings (AWGs). The temperature-dependent wavelength shift of the combined device is successfully suppressed to 0.058 nm in the -20degC to 70degC temperature range. Moreover, the combined device's adjacent crosstalk (typically -35 dB) is much better than conventional AWGs (typically -25 dB).     

Study on combustion characteristics of blended coals

Power plants in China have to burn blended coal instead of one specific coal for a variety of reasons. So it is of great necessity to investigate the combustion of blended coals. Using a test rig with a capacity of 640 MJ/h with an absolute milling system and flue gas online analysis system, characteristics such as burnout, slag, and pollution of some blended coals were investigated. The ratio of coke and slag as a method of distinguishing coal slagging characteristic was introduced. The results show that the blending of coal has some effect on NO _x but there is no obvious rule. Synthesis of red-luminescent Eu-doped lanthanides compounds hollow spheres

Eu³⁺-doped Y₂O₃, YOF, La₂O₃, LaOF hollow spheres have been synthesized by a facile template route. Eu³⁺ were doped into the various host materials to make the hollow sphere red-luminescent. Difference in fluorescence spectra recorded on the hollow spheres were compared in detail and attributed to the different crystal symmetry of host materials. These phosphors might find applications in the fields such as light phosphor powders, advanced flat panel display, or biological labeling.

螺旋搅龙加工新方法

螺旋搅龙是联合收割机的重要零件之一。按照传统的加工方法，由若干件单片焊接而成。因此种方法需要几套冲压工装，经落料、冲孔、切角等工序，以至材料利用率很低；且再经数片接焊工序后，变形突出，表面粗糙。造成零件制作成本较大。考虑到传统工艺的弊端，研究在普通车床上采用一套工装用条料绕成螺旋搅龙的新方法。经过反复试验获得成功。与传统的加工方法相比，材料节约37％。大大降低了产品成本，提高了产品质量和生产效率。

Microfabricated needle-type sensors for pO/sub 2/, pCO/sub 2/, and pH

In order to conduct in vivo continuous monitoring of blood gas levels, very thin disposable pO/sub 2/, pCO/sub 2/, and pH sensors, which could be incorporated into a syringe needle or a catheter, were microfabricated. Electrode patterns were formed on a polyimide substrate and stacked with intervening polyimide insulating layers. An electrolyte layer was formed, which was covered with a silicone rubber gas-permeable membrane or a passivating layer. The most critical part of the sensor was a Ag-AgCl reference electrode with a pinhole structure. Because of the structure and novel operational mode of the reference electrode, its potential stabilized immediately, and reproducible responses were realized for the respective sensors. Performance characterization revealed clear responses and linear calibration plots in the ranges of partial pressures or pH of physiological levels. No significant damages or changes in the performance of the sensors were observed after ethylene oxide sterilization.     

Performance of a combined eco-system of ponds and constructed wetlands for wastewater reclamation and reuse.

An on-site study on the operational performance of a combined eco-system of ponds and SF constructed wetland for municipal wastewater treatment and reclamation/reuse in Donging City, Shandong, China was carried out from January 2001 through October 2003. The removal efficiencies for various main parameters were: TSS 84.8 +/- 7.3%, BOD5 87.2 +/- 5.3%, CODCr 70.2 +/- 18.6%, TP 52.3 +/- 23.1%, and NH(3)-N 54.8 +/- 23.9% with effluent concentration of TSS 9.12 +/- 5.12 mg/l, BOD5 6.44 +/- 4.58 mg/l, CODCr, 42.8 +/- 6.7 mg/l, TP 0.94 +/- 0.27 mg/l and NH(3)-N 7.95 +/- 2.36 mg/l. In addition, the removal efficiencies for faecal coliforms and total bacteria were > 99.97% and > 99.998% respectively, which well meet Chinese National standards for effluent quality of municipal wastewater treatment plants. The composition of TSS was closely related to CODCr and BOD5 variations, and nitrification-denitrification is the major mechanism of nitrogen removal both in ponds and in wetlands. In addition, sedimentation also played an important role in the removal of TSS, nitrogen, phosphorus and BOD5. The removal efficiencies of various parameters, the number of species and biomass of biological community in the system increased gradually with the ecological maturation.     

A 4-MB on-chip L2 cache for a 90-nm 1.6-GHz 64-bit microprocessor

A 4-MB L2 data cache was implemented for a 64-bit 1.6-GHz SPARC(r) RISC microprocessor. Static sense amplifiers were used in the SRAM arrays and for global data repeaters, resulting in robust and flexible timing operation. Elimination of the global clock grid over the SRAM array saves power, enabled by combining the clock information with array select signals. Redundancy was implemented flexibly, with shift circuits outside the main data array for area efficiency. The chip integrates 315 million transistors and uses an 8-metal-layer 90-nm CMOS process.
