A new subspace optimization method for performing aero-structural design is introduced. The method relies on a semi-analytic
adjoint approach to the sensitivity analysis that includes post-optimality sensitivity information from the structural optimization
subproblem. The resulting coupled post-optimality sensitivity approach is used to guide a gradient-based optimization algorithm.
The new approach simplifies the system-level problem, thereby reducing the number of calls to a potentially costly aerodynamics
solver. The aero-structural optimization of an aircraft wing is performed using linear aerodynamic and structural analyses,
and a performance comparison is made between the new approach and the conventional multidisciplinary feasible method. The
new asymmetric suboptimization method is found to be the more efficient approach when it adequately reduces the number of

The Water Framework Directive establishes that the river basin management plans must have a summary of the pressures and impacts of human activities, such as agriculture, on the chemical and quantitative status of groundwater bodies. In order to identify those areas where a potential impact from agricultural activities on groundwater bodies exists, but currently lacking groundwater monitoring data, a methodology was developed that combines the use of gross nitrogen balance values with the results of a specific vulnerability assessment index. A farm management efficiency parameter is added, to identify the factors that contribute to nitrogen use efficiency and to assess the near-future scenarios. This paper presents a new approach to divide large Water Distribution Networks (WDN) into suitable District Metered Areas (DMAs). It uses a hydraulic simulator and two operational models to identify the optimal number of DMAs, their entry points and boundary valves, and the network reinforcement/replacement needs throughout the project plan. The first model divides the WDN into suitable DMAs based on graph theory concepts and some user-defined criteria. The second model uses a simulated annealing algorithm to identify the optimal number and location of entry points and boundary valves, and the pipes reinforcement/replacement, necessary to meet the velocity and pressure requirements. The objective function is the difference between the economic benefits in terms of water loss reduction (arising from the average pressure reduction) and the cost of implementing the DMAs. Engineering frameworks are currently required to support the easy, low-cost, modular and integrated development of manufacturing systems addressing the emergent requirements of re-configurability, responsiveness and robustness. This paper discusses the integration of 2D/3D digital software tools with Petri net based service-oriented frameworks to allow the design, configuration, analysis, validation, simulation, monitoring and control of manufacturing systems in a virtual environment and its posterior smooth migration into the real ??physical?? environment. An experimental case study was implemented to validate the proposed concepts, using the Continuum platform to design, compose, analyze, validate and simulate the Petri nets based service-oriented manufacturing control system, and the Delmia AutomationTM software suite to support the rapid prototyping and the easy simulation of the designed control solution. institutes. The analysis is based on R&D input and output data at the country aggregate and provincial level. We utilize Polynomial
Distributed Lag model to uncover the structure of the lag between R&D input and output. The findings reveal that the growth

The canonical particle swarm algorithm is a new approach to optimization, drawing inspiration from group behavior and the establishment of social norms. It is gaining popularity, especially because of the speed of convergence and the fact that it is easy to use. However, we feel that each individual is not simply influenced by the best performer among his neighbors. We, thus, decided to make the individuals "fully informed." We are interested in the graph coloring problem. We propose an exact method based on a linear-decomposition of the graph. The complexity of this method is exponential according to the linearwidth of the entry graph, but linear according to its number of vertices. We present some experiments performed on literature instances, among which COLOR02 library instances. Our method is useful to solve more quickly than other exact algorithms instances with small linearwidth, such as mug graphs. Moreover, our algorithms are the first to our knowledge to solve the COLOR02 instance 4-Inser_3 with an exact method. 相似文献
