Pulsewidth modulated (PWM) current-source rectifiers (CSR), among other alternatives, offer marked improvements over thyristor line-commutated rectifiers as a source of variable DC power. Advantages include reduced line current harmonic distortion and complete displacement power factor control, including unity displacement power factor operation. However, due to nonlinearities of the PWM-CSR model, their control has usually been carried out using direct line current control in a three-phase stationary frame (abc). This paper proposes the application of a nonlinear control technique that introduces more flexibility in the control of the rectifier and results in a more straightforward approach to controller design. The proposed technique is based on a nonlinear state variable feedback approach in the rotating frame (dq). The approach allows the independent control of the two components of the line current (active and reactive) with the same dynamic performance, regardless of the operating point. The control strategy also eliminates the need for input damping resistors and rejects the effect of supply voltage variations. Furthermore, a space vector modulation (SVM) technique is used to maximize the supply voltage utilization. This paper includes a complete formulation of the system equations and a controller design procedure. Faces are salient stimuli for primates that rely predominantly on visual cues for recognizing conspecifics and maintaining social relationships. While previous studies have shown similar face discrimination processes in chimpanzees and humans, data from monkeys are unclear. Therefore, three studies examined face processing in rhesus monkeys using the face inversion effect, a fractured face task, and an individual recognition task. Unlike chimpanzees and humans, the monkeys showed a general face inversion effect reflected by significantly better performance on upright compared to inverted faces (conspecifics, human and chimpanzees faces) regardless of the subjects' expertise with those categories. Fracturing faces alters first- and second-order configural manipulations whereas previous studies in chimpanzees showed selective deficits for second-order configural manipulations. Finally, when required to individuate conspecific's faces, i.e., matching two different photographs of the same conspecific, monkeys showed poor discrimination and repeated training. These results support evolutionary differences between rhesus monkeys and Hominoids in the importance of configural cues and their ability to individuate conspecifics' faces, suggesting a lack of face expertise in rhesus monkeys. The purpose of the present work is to investigate novel approaches, materials, and molecules for the abatement of carbon dioxide (CO2) at the pre-combustion stage of gasification-based power generation point sources. The capture/separation step for CO2 from large point sources is a critical one with respect to the technical feasibility and cost of the overall carbon sequestration scenario. For large point sources, such as those found in power generation, the carbon dioxide capture techniques being investigated by the Office of Research and Development of the National Energy Technology Laboratory possess the potential for improved efficiency and reduced costs as compared to more conventional technologies. The investigated techniques can have wide applications, but the present research is focused on the capture/separation of carbon dioxide from fuel gas (pre-combustion gas) from processes such as the Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) process. For such applications, novel concepts are being developed in wet scrubbing with physical sorption, chemical sorption with solid sorbents, and separation by membranes. In one concept, a wet scrubbing technique is being investigated that uses a physical solvent process to remove CO2 from fuel gas of an IGCC system at elevated temperature and pressure. The need to define an “ideal” solvent has led to the study of the solubility and mass transfer properties of various solvents. Pertaining to another separation technology, fabrication techniques and mechanistic studies for membranes separating CO2 from the fuel gas produced by coal gasification are also being performed. Membranes that consist of CO2-philic ionic liquids encapsulated into a polymeric substrate have been investigated for permeability and selectivity. Finally, processes based on dry, regenerable sorbents are additional techniques for CO2 capture from fuel gas. An overview of these novel techniques is presented along with a research progress status of technologies related to membranes and physical solvents.  相似文献

This paper addresses implementation issues associated with secondary voltage control in a doubly-fed induction generator based wind farm. The effects of different system parameters on the performance of the control are considered, namely the short circuit ratio of the interconnection and the inherent communication delay between the wind park and the remote bus. In addition, a strategy for allocation reactive power requirements to each of the generators within the wind park is proposed. The system is developed and simulated for a wind park consisting of six wind generators connected to a typical transmission system. The paper proposes an optimal tracking secondary voltage control method developed to achieve effective voltage regulation, enhance the network voltage profile and provide optimal reactive power compensation to the interconnected power system. The performance of the controller is compared with secondary voltage control at one selected bus, primary voltage control and the optimal voltage profile obtained from the optimal power flow analysis. The performance of the controllers is tested for steady state operation and in response to system contingencies, taking into account the impact of communication time delays and short circuit ratio (SCRs). Simulation results are presented to demonstrate the capability of the controllers to provide the desired reactive power compensation and voltage support to the electric power grid.  相似文献

Shunt-type static VAr compensators have been shown to be an effective means of increasing the transmission capability of power systems and of increasing the power factor of industrial loads. This paper presents an alternative to the shunt connection consisting of a series-connected transformer-coupled pulsewidth modulation (PWM) inverter. The scheme consists of a current source inverter (CSI) fed from a self-controlled DC current bus and presents the following features: (1) instantaneous series injected voltage control through online PWM of the DC link current; and (2) steady-state modulation index of the PWM pattern near unity through DC link current minimization. The first feature results in fast dynamic response, while the second feature ensures low and fixed injected voltage harmonic distortion and reduced steady-state compensator losses. Operation of the compensator and of the two-loop control scheme are presented. Simulation and experimental results on a 2 kVA laboratory prototype unit confirm the feasibility of the proposed VAr compensator structure  相似文献

This paper presents a new control technique for resonant converters. Unlike conventional variable frequency control which externally imposes the switching frequency, the proposed scheme is based on controlling the displacement angle between one of the resonant circuit variables, typically the current through the resonant inductor, and the voltage at the output of the inverter. As a result, zero-voltage switching (ZVS) can be ensured over a wide operating range. The proposed control technique cam be applied for series, parallel, and series-parallel resonant converters. As an example, the static characteristics and dynamic model of a series-parallel resonant converter with the proposed controller are derived and the system behaviour is investigated in detail. Experimental results are given to demonstrate the operation of resonant converters with the proposed controller and to validate the analysis  相似文献
