The sensitivity of a depolarized SO2 electrolyzer to various operating parameters has been investigated through numerical modeling. A simplified kinetic expression was first derived to relate the anodic overpotential to both temperature and sulfuric acid concentration. In 7 infants suffering from obstructive jaundice we found transient high levels of methionine in serum. All cases had only intrahepatic cholestasis, especially with intrahepatic biliary hypoplasia, whereas other patients with extrahepatic biliary atresia and/or combination of extra- and intrahepatic obstructive jaundice always showed normal levels of methionine. Therefore hypermethioninemia seems to be helpful in differentiating the various causes of infantile obstructive jaundice.  相似文献

This article describes a systematic miniplant‐based approach to rapid development of simulated moving bed (SMB) chromatography applications. The methodology involves analysis of single‐column pulse tests to screen adsorbents and operating conditions and to determine initial values of profile advancement factors used to specify flow rates for an initial SMB miniplant experiment. A lumped‐parameter linear driving force rate‐based model is developed by fitting process data from a single miniplant run. The data are fit in a two‐step procedure involving initial determination of effective adsorption isotherm constants as best‐fit parameters with subsequent adjustment of calculated mass transfer coefficients to refine the data fit. The resulting simulation is used to guide further miniplant work and minimize experimental effort. The methodology is illustrated with miniplant data for a binary protein separation showing excellent agreement between model results and process data generated over a wide range of operating conditions. © 2009 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 2009  相似文献

The flatfish species dab (Limanda limanda) is the sentinel for offshore marine monitoring in the United Kingdom National Marine Monitoring Programme (NMMP). At certain sites in the North and Irish Seas, the prevalence of macroscopic liver tumors can exceed 10%. The plasma proteome of these fish potentially contains reporter proteins or "biomarkers" that may enable development of diagnostic tests for liver cancer and further our understanding of the disease. Following selection of sample groups by quality-assured histopathology ("phenotype anchoring"), we used surface-enhanced laser desorption/ionization (SELDI) time-of-flight mass spectrometry to produce proteomic profiles of plasma from 213 dab collected during the 2004 UK NMMP. The resulting protein profiles were compared between fish from the North and Irish Seas and between fish with liver neoplasia or nondiseased liver. Significant differences were found between the plasma proteomes of dab from the North Sea and Irish Sea, which in conjunction with artificial neural networks can correctly determine from which sea dab were captured in 85% of the cases. In addition, the presence of liver tumors is associated with significant changes in the plasma proteome. We conclude that SELDI-based plasma profiling is potentially of use in nonlethal marine monitoring using wild sentinels such as dab. Furthermore, accurate selection of sample groups is critical for avoiding effects of confounding factors such as age, gender, and geographic origin of samples.  相似文献

This article describes recent developments of the thermal barrier sensor concept for nondestructive evaluation (NDE) of thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) and on-line condition monitoring in gas turbines. New and enhanced instrumentation to measure surface temperature distributions and heat flux and to monitor TBC health are regarded as a priority by the industry. The authors have proposed thermal barrier sensor coatings (TBSCs) as a possible means of achieving such measurements. TBSCs are made by doping the ceramic material (currently yttria-stabilized zirconia) with a rare earth activator to provide the coating with luminescence when excited with ultraviolet (UV) light. The article describes the physics of the thermoluminescent response of such coatings and shows how this can be used to measure temperature. Calibration data are presented from a coating produced using a production standard spray system. Also discussed is the manufacture of functionally structured coatings with discreet doped layers. The temperature at the bond coat interface is important with respect to the life of the coating since it influences the growth rate of the thermally grown oxide layer, which in turn destabilizes the coating system as it becomes thicker. Preliminary experimental data are presented that indicate that dual-layered TBSCs can be used to detect luminescence from, and thereby the temperature within, subsurface layers. A theoretical analysis of the data has allowed some preliminary calculations of the transmission properties of the overcoat to be made, and these suggest that it might be possible to observe phosphorescence and measure temperature through an overcoat layer of up to approximately 1.33 mm thickness.  相似文献
